Insurance may give you a hard time about revision and revision only happens if your doctor suggests it. I had the lapband for almost 3 years...did alright but band slipped and had awful issues. Insurance wanted me to go through the entire intake process and paperwork ALL over again and then there was still chance they could deny surgery. In my honest opinion and from experience...I wish the sleeve had been an originally.

11/2/2009 Lapband - started at 255-ish Got down to 194 Started having problems, band had slipped, gained weight, removed band 9/2012 10/29/2012 Sleeve - started at 235 Currently 154-ish Wish it had been available the first time around, no issues, can eat without food getting stuck and no vomiting. I've run a bunch of 5k/10k races, 2 half marathons and going to run a full marathon in 2014!

I had the band in 2009 and took a week off afterwards. I was very sore after and felt like I had been beat up. I had the sleeve done in 2012 and felt great the next day! I took a month off of work but mainly because I work in a group home dealing with physical behaviors. I guess I attribute quick recover(as far as pain goes) to being in a lot better shape prior to surgery this time around.

October 29th I was officially 1 year post op. I'm curious though if anyone else has experienced being on a crazy emotional roller coaster? I talked to a friend I met bc we had surgery same day and she said she's felt the same way. Like you can feel a meltdown coming on and there is nothing you can do about it. It's awful!

So, anyone else have ridiculous cold spells and then crazy hot flashes since surgery?? Other day I was wrapped in 8 blankets trying to get warm and not long after I was whipping the blanket off opening the window roasting! It's happened a few times now and cpl others I know said same thing since they were sleeved.

October Sleevers! Announce Yourselves
Lynzee43 replied to SkinnyMinnie2Be's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sleeved 10/29, 4 days out - I feel great! I've had no issues at all. At 2 days out I walked my dog 2 miles without any issue. I have little to no pain most of the time, but till sore today as I was out and about for a good part of the day. No trouble getting in my protein and other fluids. Can't wait to see how I've done the first week when I go to my appt on the 6th! -
I used to have similar pain in my right hip down to my knee from a pinched nerve. The entire side of my leg would go numb and they sent me for an EMG. They stick tiny pins in my foot/ankle/leg/hip/back that gave tiny little shocks or something crazy. Then used some other big pronged thing jabbed into my hip area to shock the nerve and it hurt ridiculously awful! End results and how to relieve the issue...Lose weight to reduce pressure on the nerve. I wanted to slap the Dr doing EMG, bc that made me hurt more than I already did. *this was cpl years prior to my band surgery*

It's fricken ridiculous! I'm going to have to get an electric blanket for the freezing ass cold spells and turn the a/c on for crazy ass hot flashes!

Order 1/2 portions if possible and ask for a small plate. Put a small amount that you are able to eat on small plate and immediately ask for the rest to be boxed to take home. Easier to eat less if you only have a little bit in front of you, then you don't feel tempted to eat more.

I really feel that recovery depends on how good of shape you are in prior to surgery. Band - 11/2009 - I felt crappy afterwards. Getting out of bed was awful and I hurt more if I was up moving around a lot. Sleeve - 3 days ago - I was out of bed immediately after being taken to my room, used bathroom and walked around floor for about 10mins. Two days post-op I walked my dog miles like it was nothing. I feel absolutely fabulous! Biggest difference between now and then, I exercised 4-5 days a week for 4 months prior to sleeve. I have very minimal pain in my belly(scale of 1-10, 2, maybe 3 if cough/sneeze/hiccups). My shoulders/neck ache a bit from trapped air yet, but a dose of Tylenol and I'm good. This is just my own personal experience, by no means am I saying you will feel as good as I do already. I will say though, if you've got the time to exercise before surgery it's a huge benefit to you and your recovery.

My 10yr old offered me some of his popcorn at snack tonight, then says, "oops! I forgot!"

You Know You've Been On Liquid Protein Too Long, When:

You hope everyone eating real food for dinner enjoys it...but doesn't choke bc you wouldn't save them! -
I honestly feel pretty damn good! I can def say I didn't feel this good after the band surgery at all. There were 5 of us done on Monday and I was last! As far as I know I was the only revision done. As soon as I got to my room, I was up to bathroom and took a cpl laps around the floor. Basically every time I got up to bathroom I would walk a few laps. Several of the nurses on that night said I didn't even look like I had surgery and praised me for being up and exercising. I crunched ice chips and sipped Water on and off through the night. By 8am the next day I was up walking for over a half hour. I was then taken down for swallow study and my dr came back up the elevator with me and said I could go home as soon as I drank some 1/2 apple juice+1/2 water in med cups. I haven't had any nausea and continue to tolerate fluids fairly easily as long as sipped slowly. I was the first to go home out of the 5 of us. I hope everyone else sleeved Monday October 29th is feeling better day by day!
-
Thank you! I've actually done very well with my sipping. I think the biggest difference now and three years ago, is that I'm in way better shape. I spend from June until beginning of October exercising and running quite a bit. Only reason I wasn't able to continue right up until surgery is bc I popped my hip out and it was misaligned by about 4 inches! It was awful and still slowly recovering from that. I am finally able to walk long distances, did 2 miles yesterday!

Anyone try sugar free hot chocolate?
-
I like both. Isopure can be purchased at GNC unjury can only be purchased online, but they are quick shipping. Mybariatricpantry.com also has a lot of different Protein choices. I really like the Syntrax nectar, comes in a lot of flavors and you can order sample packs of it on the site. They have quick shipping as well.

I really can't say that I feel too bad. I don't think I felt this good after having the band done. I'm just curious if anyone else has brief periods of chills and then will be warm again?
-
Glad to hear you are feeling well! I've had a little bit of gas pain and soreness in left shoulder due to hiatal hernia repair done during surgery.
-
I thought I had read or heard someone say they tend to feel cold more since surgery. I'm generally warm all the time, nurses kept trying to give me blankets but I was too warm while in hospital.
-
Hard to believe but tomorrow is the big day! I'm very excited and ready to be on the road to slim-dom again! Also, last week I found out an ex-coworker of mine is also being sleeved tomorrow, right before me. I teased her and told her I'm glad the Dr. was practicing on her first, lol. Just wanted to wish everyone else going in tomorrow, lots of well wishes for a speedy recovery!

Sitting impatiently in surgical admissions...just waiting to go to pre-op!
