  1. Hi' date=' My name is Kathy, Im 38 years old and Im from Youngstgown OH. I am having my surgery at St Vincents in Cleveland on November 7. I am ready for this change and to be on my way to a happier and healthier me!![/quote']

I'm the 7th too!! I'm glad we share the date! I'm in Troy, MI. I start my pre-op diet next Wednesday and tonight I will be having my last glass of wine until who-knows-when!!!

  2. My nutritionist told me that she considers any Protein Shake made with Water (as opposed to milk) to be a clear liquid. I am so happy to hear this because I can drink some of the Syntrax Nectar flavors that are meant to be mixed with water during my pre-op and post-op clear liquid days. I have ordered several samples but so far have only tried the Roadside Lemonade. It was pretty darn good.

Does anyone else have this same rule?

  3. Hello everyone, my name is Jenny, I'm 42 years old, married with 3 girls (ages 15, 13 & 9). I just found out yesterday that I was approved for the VSG. The surgeon's office called today and set my surgery for November 7th! I am excited and nervous!!! I go on 10/15 for a 2 hour pre-surgery class where I meet with a nutritionist and nurse. I guess they will tell me how I need to take care of myself before and after the surgery.

I've been in the waiting mode for so long, it's hard for me to actually believe this is gonna happen! Maybe after my appointment on the 15th it will seem more real?

  4. Last Friday marked 2 weeks since submission. I did everything right and I'm incredibly frustrated and down in the dumps bc it's not looking good.

    I just don't get it... :(

Still no word? I just read this thread and I thought for sure by the end you would have had a response!!!! I am so sorry this is happening to you. I just submitted today to Aetna. I was curious if calling would help speed things along but it seems that was not your experience. Please let us know how things work out for you.

  5. My surgeon's office just submitted to Aetna today. I was assigned an insurance coordinator and she listed all of the items that I still need to complete before we could submit to Aetna. I then spent the next month or two getting all of the testing done. It seems to me (based on feedback that she has given me) that she is pretty knowledgable about Aetna's requirements. Boy, I sure hope so. I had to provide documentation for the following:

    1) Medical records from my PCP for the past 2 years

    2) Records of any medically supervised diet attempts for 6 months (consecutive) with PCP or 3 months with a Dietician. (On a side note, the nutritionist visits needed to occur in 3 consecutive months (meaning 1 in July, 1 in August and 1 in September)

    3) Psychological evaluation from a licensed psychologist or psychiatrist

    4) Clearances: Medical

    5) Other: Letter of support from Physician which includes: health conditions, current medications, past supervised dieting attempts, and clear recommendation for weight loss surgery

    6) Stress test

    I hope this help!!!

  6.  I have your answer... http://www.cytosport...-ready-to-drink << it's a link to Cytosport's RTD whey Isolate drinks. Straight up... yum!

I was on a clear liquid diet for a LONG time and it sucked. I hate isopuke (my apologies to anyone who likes it but YEEEEAKKK) and I hate Protein bullets. But this drink in green (tropical) or orange (tangerine) ROCKS. I bought them at Vitamin Shop. They have a refrigerated section where you can buy these individually and try them. Try anything, but keep your receipt. You have 7 days and even if it's open and you hated it, bring it back for a refund. (hello, Protein bullets... how do you think I know their return policy?) And yes, your tastebuds DO change, so remember Vitamin Shop has a great refund policy (that stuff is expensive, any of that stuff that is!).

    Good luck!

I think I will take a trip to the Vitamin Shop this week and try one or two of the Isopure and Cytosport. I will report back with my findings. Fingers crossed!

  7. I just visited my surgeon's office this past week and they will be submitting the weight they took this week to insurance. I still have to get my sleep apnea test (8/30) and stress test (have an appt with my PCP on 9/6 for a referral). It is now my understanding that any weight loss between now and insurance submission will NOT impact the decision. This is such a relief, I can start incorporating many of the changes I know I will have to make!

  8. The 4 co-morbidities are:

    • Clinically significant obstructive sleep apnea (i.e., person meets the criteria for treatment of obstructive sleep apnea set forth in CPB 0004 - Obstructive Sleep Apnea in Adults); or
    • Coronary heart disease; or
    • Medically refractory hypertension (blood pressure greater than 140 mmHg systolic and/or 90 mmHg diastolic despite concurrent use of 3 anti-hypertensive agents of different classes); or

    • Type 2 diabetes mellitus

Here is a link to the Aetna policy, when I called and talked to a representative, she sent me to this link:

  9. I am in a similar situation. I have Aetna and started my 3 month pre-surgical program on July 5th. My BMI was 39.8 on July 5th and I do not have one of the 4 co-morbidities that Aetna lists (I have an appointment with a sleep apnea doctor on 8/13 to get tested). I am currently at 40 BMI and I plan to stay at this level until we submit for insurance approval at the end of the 3 month period. I am so worried that I will not get approved! I wish you the best of luck!
