My trip is to Jamaica. I have never been so I don't know what I will be in for when I get there. You may think this is weird, but this is all due to my best friend's husband being an a-hole. That's why this is not planned. I was not supposed to be going on this trip... he was.
It's one of those all inclusive places and I am just unsure as to what will be available for me there. I buy the premade shakes and have never had the powders. I am trying to listen to all of you and figure our the best course of action.

Thank you all so much. This has been a huge help. I still wish they made some sort of pill and I could just take with Water to make sure I got what I needed, but this is great. I wasn't sure about the powder and if they would try to stop you or not at the gate or baggage check.

I live in Charlotte, NC. We have Walmart, but I have never heard of HEB. I am sure I can get my Dr. to write me a note or something.
-
I am sure this is a stupid question, but can you buy the powder and Blender Bottle at the Vitamin Shoppe? I really wouldn't do this if it wasn't important. I am too new to feel secure is risking all this, but I am glad y'all are here to help.

Do I need any kind of documentation to back it up?

I just found out that I will be going on an unexpected trip. I don't think I will be able to pack my shakes with me. Are there any Protein pills or something small that I will be able to take? I am 12 days post-op as of today (8/12) and by the time I fly I will be 4 weeks post-op. I know that I will be able to eat some fish and chicken by then, but I don't want to risk not getting enough protein. Can anyone help me out here?

Go State, I'm just jealous that's all. They are a staple in the Carolina's also. I just miss them.

Check out the OhYeah! shakes. They come in lots of flavors. The are high protein... 32 grams and taste great.

Max, I'm from the south and would love nothing more than to have a bowl of grits. I'm mad bc my Dr. said no corn. That means no grits.
-
Mine too. And I'm still mad about the mashed potatoes and grits. Go State must be southern, no one else likes grits!

I was told no straws! You are so right, so many different ways to go about this.
-
GoState,
Did you seriously have mashed potatoes and grits??? My Dr. said no corn and no white stuff i.e. rice, potatoes, bread...etc.

They started me with Protein in the hospital and made sure that I had my 60 ounces before they sent me home. I was only in for 24 hours.

Carey and Nina... feel free to join the club! LOL I think that is what we are all complaining about here. NO MORE shakes PLEASE!!!!

If your Dr. says you can go ahead and do Beans then try them. I didn't think refried beans was on the list, but I could be wrong. Beans are another thing I am waiting for.

Illuminated, trust me when I tell you that when you take in too much you will feel it. I too WAS a gulper and have had to learn to take it slower. I don't know how to explain a sip, but it's more than I would imagine sipping super hot coffee. Does that make sense? I find that it's easier for me to drink hot things faster (chicken broth.) I have the large Tervis tumblers (24oz) and try to drink 3 of those a day. I do two OhYeah shakes and those seem to take all day to drink. I'm just sick to death of them. I am waiting to eat until I see the Nut. I am so tired of being "fluffy" that I will do whatever they say so I can get this weight off.

I'm 11 days post-op and the only thing I have tried is sugar free Jello. I was told not to eat until day 14 like you... I never wanted scrambled eggs so bad in my life. I'm not really hungry, I just miss chewing something in my mouth. I am way over the shakes. Bring on the softies!!!

Uh... that would be NC, not Nc. My bad!

Hi, I am looking for local Charlotte folks that would like to start a support group or would like to get together to walk and talk. I am 11 days post-op as of today, 8/11/12. I am just looking for others like me that are trying to get their health back on track.

It's funny that you say that. As I am lying in the hospital bed all drugged up, my husband decides to go to the caf to get some lunch. Does he eat his lunch down in the caf? NO! He brings it back up to the room. Do you know what he brought in my room after I have just had all but a teeny tiny bit of my stomack removed.... FRIED CHICKEN! I am southern Carrie, and this is a staple for southern people. ALSO... IT IS ONE OF MY GREATEST WEAKNESSES! If I could have shot him, I would have.
That being said, I do have the most wonderful husband whom is so very supportive. I guess he just lost his brain while I was losing my stomack. LOL

I am new to all of this so if you have any suggestions that would be great. I have talked to a few other Chralotte people on here. I guess the best way to start is to find out the area everyone lives in, get names and numbers and find a good place to meet up. I believe we can send private msgs to multiple people to work this out.
BeachGirl, I just got back from my 2 week post-op with my NUT and am down 20 lbs. I am very excited.
Chuckles, I spoke with a lady that can only meet on the weekends also. Let's all talk and figure this thing out..
