NY LAPSTER

Hi everyone I am new here and am scheduled for my lap band surgery in NYC ON 11/11/14...Began my 2 week liquid pre-op diet today and i am so excited, nervous, scared, yet so ready to go...Ain't no stopping me....I weighed in this morning at my heavieat weight ever of 302.5...Have been having many last meals the last few weeks in anticipation of my new life..Probably gained 10-15 lbs since deciding on the surgery...But, the journey begins today......Am having Slim Fast Ultra and chicken broth today with some Crystal Lite....That is what I'm gonna go on for awhile....By thre way I'M 5'9".....Any advice or support will be accepted..I know most stories are positive..a few have had problems..Iknow the road will be bumpy and I'm buckled in but very positive....I am 49..live in NJ.. work in NYC...2 great kids..14 and 11..married and looking forward to improving everything in my life as I feel better... hmm..my moment occurred this summer when I realized that I had to get over my own judgements about having wls surgery and what my family and friends would think...Would they think me weak??I then realized that I had to have the guts and strength to be strong and make this decision...I had gotten near 300 lbs ..4 knee surgeries..still coaching basketball, trying to be actice but everything hurt...I have sleep apnea ..refuse to use C-Pap and instead use a mouthpiece which helps somewhat...I hate looking in the mirror and feel that I'm this fat man's body...My moment was going to the orientation with my wife in NYC and realizing that I am one of you and there is an opportunity to get some help...I'm a former psychotherapist and had been in therapy for years...Understanding the issues and all the family bullshit wasn't going to get me healthy asnd thinner...My moment was filling out the application for the lap band surgery and telling my wife that this is what I'm doing...She has been very supportive but struggles herself with weight issues..this is raising stuff for her too..alot of stuff...Anyway , my date is 11/11..I am so psyched..Started my preop diet and am already feeling better..This is a great thread and a great board....Good luck everyone....

Hi everyone I am new here..joined yesterday and just getting used to navigating this site..thanks to the creator of this site...My lap band surgery is on 11/11 with Dr Ren in NYC...Am very confident in her and the procedure but it's all such a whirlwind...It's like I'm getting this much needed help to regain control of my life...Life is real good...great family ..wife ..2 kids..11 and 14...good job..all with issues but that's life..It's so wonderful to have this opportunity to get healthy and i just won't fail...Of course a little doubt but it won't get the best of me...I'm 49..weighed 302.5 yesterday..298.5 after 1 day on liquids ( I ate alot the last day) and I can't wait to get going..I gained over 120 lbs since age 21 and I want to get back to near that point...I really want to be healthy and be able to give more to my family...Food really weighs you down in so many weighs... Anhyway..just wanted to say hi and would love to share experiences with fellow bandsters...

I here you ..it is hard...for me , so far so good but it's only been like 36 hours...I'm doing Slim Fast Optima shakes, chicken broth, plain salad, crystal lite and lots of water...I'm pretty full and have lost 4 lbs in 1 day...I just really want this bad...........You do also or else you wouldn't have come this whole way..You will be fine and if you screw up a little ..so what..we've screwed up diet wise our whole lives..go for it...we're gonna make it and be healthy...Good luck..

hi It started becoming so real when I began my pre-op diet 2 days ago...like all of us, I have " cheated " on every diet I've been on....I am so psyched taking this drastic , yet very normal step and the pre-op stuf so far has been fine..How are u doing??Is your family real supportive?? i've kind of reluctantly decided to keep this under wraps for now with just my wife in on the real deal..The rest of my life will know that I am going in for a double hernia surgery...Haven't decided when to tell my kids either...My doctor feels this worls best because so many people can be judgemental and we don't need any negativity now...Pretty heavy stuff but I'm going along with it..I'm usually a blabbermouth so this is also part of my journey....How are u doing ?/keep in touch and I wish u well.. It really means alot to have an outlet like this which hopefully I can use....At this point I am not sharing my banding status with anyone but my wife..Will wait awhile before I'm out of the closet or kitchen...
