    2lbs....WTH?

I am 2 lb a week loser for the past month (3 months post op) At 1st I was discouraged but then I am like 2 lb loss is 100 times better than before WLS so I am happy. I suggest taking the measuments. People tend to lose inches even though they are loosing slow on lbs. Might make you feel better. Just try not to compare yourself to others.. If you have major concerns, talk to Dr and NUT. Make sure you are recording everything you take in. They might need that info to help you if you hit a stall.

    FYI Insomnia Low Carb

I did a little internet research because I wasnt aware of this since I have no problem sleeping. Here are some ways you can wind down, naturally. * Turn down the lights. Numerous studies have shown how sensitive the human eye is to light. Get room-darkening shades, get an eye mask, whatever it takes. * Muffle all sounds. If there is a noise problem, get one of those ocean-sound CDs. They really do work. * Set a nighttime routine. Take a bath, have a warm no-caffeine drink, read a story. Whatever your routine is, keep doing it each night. * Avoid caffeine from 6pm onward. Caffeine has a long term effect on your body. Lack of sleep also triggers the hormones ghrelin and leptin, which makes you overly hungry in the morning. Some studies have shown that people who do not get enough sleep eat up to 1000 extra calories the next day!
  4. Not sure how you can give up with weight loss surgery. I guess if there is a will there is a way but you should put your energy towards following the plan and having some patience. Some people lose faster than others. That is the only negative I see about the forum is we tend to compare ourselves to each other and we are not alike. I have lost 43 lbs since surgery on 10/16 and it has been slower than others, faster than some, and about the same with others. i try not to think about that too often because it can frustrate you. I am just happy i am no longer gaining, i am losing and I am not suffering from dieting. I eat small amounts and I am full and I am still losing. I cant ask for anything better than that. You will get there.. Focus on the positives and remember this is a life long journey. I hope it gets better for you soon!

    Questions...

i have seen this issue mentioned before but I dont have the time this exact moment to search for it out here. I do know I experience the same thing RARELY. What I associate it wth is the food and possibly eating to fast and not chewing well enough.. I think this has happened twice.. I do occasionally feel the pains after eating but based on the research and comments out here I believe it is sort of gastric related. Especially since you have had everything checked.. I would not eat the things that made you feel this way for a while. Perhaps wait another 3 - 4 weeks before you try eggs. It is weird but I do not enjoy eggs like I once did. My tummy feels different after I eat them but it has gotten better with time. I am about 13wks post op now..

    Monthly Cost for Protein?

They seem expensive but I actually did a financial analysis on spending on food pre wls and post wls. I am saving about $300 a month post wls on food.. I ate out a lot pre wls.
  7. In my opinion, the pre-op diet is the hardest part of this journey. Knowing I was about to make a life long change made it even harder to resist to the food funerals.. I kept saying really? I have to diet now when it wont be too long I will not be able to eat? It was a mental battle.. I said goodbye to some of my favorite foods and then got busy.. I focused on this was to shrink the liver which is a neccessary part of a safe surgery.. Once I did that I got better at following the diet. Good Luck with all f this. I regret nothing except not doing it many years earlier.

    Grits?

well unfortunately you wont know what you can toloerate if you do not try it. I ate grits but i have toloerated most things I have ate. All I can suggest is to eat new things slow.. Take a bite.. let it sit for a minute.. see how it feels.. feels ok, take another.. Sorry you have been having trouble eating. It should get better for you as time passes.

    Cant stop eating!

you can still do the counseling Kpaige.. Never too late I went through the saying goodbye to my fac's before preop diet time. Now 11 weeks post op and I have no desire to eat more than I should. It doesnt feel good. Got sick twice due to eating a little too much I think. I am just thankful to be losing weight and not feeling deprived, or like I am having to suffer. No longer dependant on my willpower which wasnt very strong. Hang on to the positives!!

GOOD fast food choices ?! :)

if you have a locker or a desk have extra food stuffed in there for when you forget. I keep chili, soups, protein bars, etc in mine to fall back on. i bought several small serving containers with lids and try to cook up a couple of things on the weekends, then break it down in small servings and toss it in the freezer. I just reach in and grab something along with a protein shake and some yogurt and that is what I eat on all day.

    Hungry hungry hungty

perhaps what you think is hunger could be dehydration and acid indigestion.. Find something to drink when you feel that pain. Try an acid reduction med too.. If it is true hunger, it will get better as time passes. try and eat low carb high protein. eat slow and dont drink before or after. Good Luck
  13. Merry Christmas everyone!

    Scared of...

10 weeks post op and I was afraid of all the things mentioned above too.. my main fear was going through this and failing... again.. But I actually think I am going to succeed.. This surgery has meade it so easy.. The main thing is not having to depend on will power alone. The restriction of the intake has made it tolerable, even easy.. All of the things you that have been metioned are true possibilities but the final outcome will be worth it. Dont forget to focus on the prize! Health and normalcy! Even if some of you experience some of your fears, you will overcome and make it to the finish line! GOOD LUCK!

    Alcohol warning?

i have read where some people move from food addiction to drinking problems. This is why it is important to get some therapy regarding the tendancy to replace one addiction with another.
  17. I had it too, only in the morning and a small amount.. Freaked me out a little at first but went away.. Didn't ask a Dr about it but the incubation and anesthia comments above sound right. If worried, always ask your Dr.
  18. could be gas or internal stitching pulling a little. if it doesnt go away i would call Dr.. better safe than sorry
  19. Thank you for inspiring me! I was just sitting here feeling sorry for myself and getting more and more depressed by the minute but reading your post is helping me. We all have struggles, it is part of life. At least I am still here and with this surgery, being given another chance. Hang in there, the road seems long but when you are at the end looking back you will be thankful! (almost 8 wks post op and 31 lbs down from surgery weight, 44 lbs total)

    13 Days Post Op

how your stomach reacts seems to change as time passes. I have had a pretty good experience so far. I have noticed that my tummy reacts a bit differently. I am 6 weeks post op. I believe for the most part, it is either when I forget and drink and eat to fast, or when I am trying a new food. It reminds me to be kind to it
