    Lisa Lampanelli

Lisa Lampanelli the comedienne was just on Howard Stern after losing 80 pounds with gastric sleeve... (they initially said bypass but she corrected it was the sleeve and talked about it in detail) Awesome interview and she's a wonderful funny spokesperson for wls. http://www.seattlepi.com/entertainment/tv/tvguide/article/Celebrity-Apprentice-s-Lisa-Lampanelli-Drops-80-3878282.php
  2. Hi all, Part of the reason for this is actually a little TMI but a lot of people seem to ask about constipation and a couple of alternative therapies I engage in seem to help with this. But also I'd love to hear what weird and wonderful things people have tried and/or are incorporating into their new lives! First homeopathy: I studied homeopathy in psychology at a Uni where the lecturer proceeded to eat a whole box of sleeping pills in front of us. However they were homeopathic. He said it was similar to eating a small mars bar! Now I consider homeopathy and it's principles to be quackery but I'd like to hear from others... Naturopathy: very different from above treats the body in a holistic way including spiritual. I have studied this in anthropology and sociology and I believe it should be studied by all western doctors! In the realm of naturopathy I have tried reflexology. I LOVE reflexology! I have a one hour massage every week and have had symptoms of easier bms, stress relief, insight, reduced pain in sciatica, decrease in headaches, and weight loss feels easier. I also have some mantras that use the mind to heal the body. I have tried enemas and colonic irritations which definitely seem to help my digestion and general feeling of well-being. Although I think some professionals will try and get you to attend more often than is healthy do they make more money. I am interested in trying a coffee enema. Green tea and white tea seem to help me wind down at night, even black tea soothes my nerves. This is debatable but may include the antioxidant properties and placebo effect. I've tried kinoki foot Patches and organic food. I've been vegetarian. That's it for now- what do you think and any more to add!?

    Scared Again!

Oh my gosh! Wow you are like a baby giraffe but I can see why you may be worried I think you look lovely and healthy but I'm not sure about maintaining... Do you feel tired or weak? I'm not sure if it's a medical thing yet? I've heard ppl jk about eating ice cream to maintain, but I suppose I don't have any real good advice, just wanted to say hi & wow!!!

    Attention ! Australian Sleevers

Oh yes this was one heck of an "October surprise" (although I for one am not very surprised!) and just when you thought it couldn't get worse- out comes the race card!!! GAH!!! We are very lucky in this country, but we're still growing too! I hope everyone is improving and/or happy with their progress! I'm thinking of you all!

    Attention ! Australian Sleevers

I take all swisse: women's multivite, wild krill oil, and liver detox (it has turmeric which is great for liver- a lot of people make their own turmeric tablets). I'm going to get a calcium supplement and probiotic too this weekend as I am having some trouble with bowel and myfitnesspal says I'm not getting enough calcium. I would say I have another 50-60 kgs to lose (I don't have a goal yet as I don't know what is "normal" for me) but I'm already getting some saggy skin around my midrif and arms...

    Mental Breakdown Anyone?

The gym thing I totally understand!!! But you know the more weight you lose the more people are going to start cOming up to you and complimenting you! Believe me, I loved talking to the female body builders at my old gym and they were always so helpful with new exercises! I know it's super hard but you know what- if anyone is looking at you they're going "wow, I'm soooo proud of that person for trying!" gym junkies are happy ppl and happy ppl don't judge like that The cookie think is awful, but just enjoy the frustration (I know, I'm a weirdo) but - even when you're sleeved you won't be able to eat them for a longtime! And even then they may be too sweet for you and you won't like them! Relive that frustration you felt and use it to remind you why you're doing this! You're doing this so next time there's Cookies baking you will be like a child again- you will be happy to lick a beater or split a cookie with your son! You know, sometimes I would get soooo obsessed with my food I couldn't dream of sharing it with anyone, I would hide it and eat it in secret so no-one could take it off me, if mum made brownies I couldn't enjoy even one because I sims wanted the whole pan to myself- noone else deserved or wanted them as much as I did! Your son is still young enough to engage in normal food behaviours! He hasn't experienced deprivation and hasn't developed compulsive or maladaptive eating behaviours! By doing this you are ensuring that he will always feel comfortable sharing his food with you! As others have mentioned in other threads you will probably become a "cheap date" sharing a bit of hubbies and sons meals rather than ordering your own!!! I'm so excited and proud of you! The sleeve is to stop you eating and eating but even without it, even for that one moment you worked your mind! You have started an incredie journey! I'm so proud of you and I know your son and hubby are too!!!
  8. Mine is a long way away but I told my mum the day my doctor suggested it. I was in terrible pain and said I would try to lose weight as much as possible in the meantime but that this option has to considered seriously. Mum was unsure, she had considered it when she was younger but it was a bigger deal then and she had young kids to consider. She sent me some information, a lot negative of ppl with leaks/infections. But over last four months has come to accept that it will happen. My partners parents were told shortly after (my partner is covering fees with his inheritance) but they don't disagree they just don't understand (weight is no no no issue in their family)! They just prefer not to talk about these sort of things but I know pat and I will have their help when the time comes. I was super judgemental about my lil sisters breast implants but she is very supportive of my choice. My older sister was told by mum and of course is jealous, passive aggressive, and generally nasty! She can bite my a$$, I don't care what that awful beast thinks! Lol (I can hardly believe the torturer of my youth and lead bully about my weight could dare object to me getting in shape!) My best (and only really) friend is struggling with her weight recently and is having trouble with diets. She is really supportive and excited and curious. She may be considering the gastric balloon as a temp solution to her minor gains. All other people have been politely confused and unsure but I avoid very lengthy questions. I just state facts, remind them it's not exactly cosmetic surgery (how many preconceive it).

    Disgusted By Others Eating

TAKE THE LAST WORD ebonisekim! JUST TAKE IT! State your opinion! You have a "rt" so do it! What is it?! You are disgusted by what others eat? you aren't "disgusted" per se, but are "amazed" or "awed"? You don't look at what others eat? You think OP is an idiot? You think someone else is an idiot? What is soooooo fascinating about this thread?! Is it the strife the mayhem the hatred the vitriole?! I have a "rt" to my opInion and it is the opinion of others who were also tired of the bickering and meanness. BUT GO ON.... We all wait in apprehension for what lightning bolt of intelligence will somehow redeem this topic!!!

Hey it's ok! I'm sure other will chime in soon too! But it is a big daunting thing sometimes! With Uni I try and break something big into the tiniest little piece, just to get me started, even if it's just checking some of the online posts, or putting together and printing next weeks readings, You can do this... What is the least-procrastinational thing you can do each day that keeps you healthy? (I.e what's so easy for you that you don't even really have to think?) A small goal achieved at the beginning of the day can make it all seem like a lighter burden! You know, if you go through your posts you have a lot of insight into what your issues are! Once you know the problem you can start to figure out a solution

What about the drinking with meals thingy? I would think If you accidentally drink too much liquid close to your solids it will flush them through your sleeve faster? Maybe you have a fast metabolism so to avoid what I call "panic eating" you will need to have more meals during the day... I know plenty of "normal" ppl who just never seem to stop eating- its just what and how much they eat... Think about how long you've been big... Do you really know what's "normal" for you yet? Give it time and go easy on yourself! It's your journey

Say Something Nice About The Last Poster

Izuri- time and time again you help people with stalls and motivation and advice, it's always well said and to the point! To me you're a familiar name (and avatar) that makes me feel like part of a community! Oh and I like your questions too! Always so humble

Ive been there too! (the uncontrollable hunger and cravings) I think seeing a therapist who works with nutrition will help. You see you have to find an equilibrium that works for you... Maybe you eat healthier some days because you're busier or eat more on some days because you're doing more exercise... You've kick started your new life but you need someone to talk to who really knows you personally and who you can talk each of these issues out with... For me (even pre-sleeve) I know that if I never open another can of soda again I'll be better off. If I never starve myself again, if I eat Breakfast everyday, if I avoid take away, these a small victories that add up!!! Nobody's perfect but you will eventually find what is perfect for you! I have faith!

    Disgusted By Others Eating

99.9% chance your opinion has already been stated. And you don't have to vocalise an opinion to have one... Go ahead keep the flames burning hot on this train wreck of a thread where everybody gets their heads ripped off for having an opinion... First thread ever to make me sick! Might go throw up my disgusting dinner and see of that makes anyone feel better...

Swap it! Take control of the cravings by changing the Peanut Butter (which is probably the fat or salt you want) with a sf kind (I've heard US has something called PB2 which is a good alternative) or get some macadamias to munch on (unsalted are still tasty!) Get some 0% Greek yoghurt with some fruit in it (i love mixing it with frozen berries for that icecreamy texture!) Start preparing more... Boil eggs, grill meat, store tins of salmon/tuna in the fridge, make up some savoury cupcakes (in the recipe section)... Get remotivated however you need! And remember this is a lifestyle thing, you'll have ups and downs, smiles and frowns, just keep getting back on the horse!!!!! Peace and best wishes!!!

    Another Rant About Husbands/spouses

My lil sis had breast implants, I thought she was already stunning, but apparently very small breasts (or certain types of them) can be classed as a medical issue. She got back some money from Medicare (Aussie) for her surgery. I was a massive b*ch to her about it, mostly because I was terrified of the surgery and that she might have medical issues after. But now she's safe, I'm ok with it, really it's not my decision at all, I'm not sure if it's her partners decision either since she paid for it all herself. I think it's an issue that needs some consideration and compromise and conversations (back and forth, agree and disagree). My partner jokes he would leave me if I ever got a tattoo. Sure it's my body but he has to look at it- and I'd be pretty grossed out if he got one either... Personal decisions don't let haters get you down

Please Help Me With My Hair Lost

I lost hair after pneumonia bout this year. A big round patch completely fell out. This is called alopecia areata. This is a stress response by your body to conserve energy for vital organ function. You may also notice your nails will weaken. If you are very concerned about Patches of hair loss, see a dermatologist for a topical steroidal cream to stimulate hair growth in that area. You may also opt for injections of steroids as I did. Biotin is in many good Multivitamins and may have some effect for some people. However my dermatologist told me not to waste my money. Normal Hair growth should resume within 6 weeks of the loss depending on the state of your overall health. But basically hair is NOT essential to your survival so in times of stress or rapid weight loss your body is defending itself. Persistent hairloss as such should be a concern not for vanities sake but as a sign your body is under continuing stress and you should improve your overall health including Protein and vegetables (not just one individual supplement or Vitamin etc) Good luck!

    Peripheral Neuropathy

The fatigue I don't know about but- Immediately after my laproscopic gallbladder surgery my right outer thigh was completely numb. Within 6 months this had translated into severe itching in the muscle, deep tissue, and painful stabbing occasionally. Apart from using them as antidepressants I have found a combination of endep and cymbalta turned the pain back into a faint numbness. I think starting a low dose of either of these could resolve your issue if it is nerve related. I have also heard adding magnesium supplements can help with nerve issues, although my doc says what is in a good Multivitamin is enough (and if that doesn't work then you'll need to try other routes). Best of luck!!!

    Disgusted By Others Eating

I'm over this topic but it keeps popping up on my notifications. As a pre-sleever with eating disorders up the who-ha I'm don't like being reminded that others are grossed out by what I'm doing... And those of you passionately defending "the cause" your just keeping the topic going. Please Let it be archived. Everything's been said already.

Hi kristi! I wanted the ds too as I had researched it for university before. But as you've mentioned most doctors aren't doing it anymore and i have been told no doc in aus is doing it as a 1st option anymore My doctor even wrote a large number of articles on it (which is why I picked him) but won't do it anymore either... I'm just focussing on getting my head right do hopefully I won't need malabsorptive later either Welcome aboard
