  1. They're saying if it ain't broke don't fix it! 1200 calories is a good amount. Yes for weightloss 800 is better, or 600, or none! We could eat nothing and lose heaps!!! Lol, been there. If you're a normalish bmi adult with medium activity level anything under 2000 calories (or a little more when in training) is fine. Anything else is nitpicking/fine tuning/a process. The op is 6 months out and some surgeons/ dieticians/ nutritionists/pcp's would suggest increasing cals at this point and ensuring a good routine.
  2. Hi nyxa, just from an anthropological standpoint- even what surgeons or other medical "experts" say should also be taken with a grain of salt. There are some things that are really agreed upon across the spectrum but other things are debatable but portrayed as truth! I think this is one of those things that is debatable and drs aren't all amenable to debate! They believe what they say is gold standard. And shut down any input from the patient. Medicine should be a reciprocal relationship, not a power play! You may have confidence to question dr to face, not everyone does oh hope this doesn't come across as an attack, just a different opinion based on what you said
  3. Bullsh*t!!! Yes, maybe doc has a good reason for saying it, but IMO can do far more damage than good!! Yes of course there are always ways to tweak a diet or routine but 1200 calories is roughly what it takes to sustain organ health in a bed-ridden patient. He is a surgeon, but unless he is a dietician also his opinion should be taken with a grain of salt. Everyone is different, you have received some good advice from various sources (including those who say you must listen to surgeon- some people are eating solids 6 days out!!!!!!) but now is time for you to do what works for you. If you feel comfortable with this routine, great! If you hit a stall and want to try something new, great! But be careful and always listen to your body first!!! Good luck, God bless!!!

    Pushing It?

You are pushing your luck! There are a few too many people around lately trying to mix up their diet early. The first five weeks are critical for healing and I would highly recommend staying away from any food that may be requiring your stomach to work too hard! I don't want anything bad to happen to anyone, but I'm afraid for you, you're definitely doing yourself a major disservice. Best if luck!

    Caloric Intake

I'm supposed to eat 2800 a day for my weight to lose 1-2 pounds a week.., sounds strange but it comes from very reliable source... Eat what you can and don't feel bad at 1000 if your program recommends more then it means you'll be losing weight, just remember this when you're on a stall- it's a big change for your body to expend so much and receive so little in return! Sounds like you're doing great!!! Congrats!!!

    Hunger Hasn't Gone Away...why?

For me, one of the best things about the sleeve is the enforced period of abstinence from solid foods... I want to provide support and really felt for your hubby, but that he would ignore the rules that are there to stop him getting a leak in the first five weeks just made my stomach churn! Also the brat diet seems highly laden in carbs... Bananas are great but the other three are useless if he wants to curb hunger and keep his hair!!!! I really recommend he goes to a nutritionist, you too, boot camp the house because if this goes on he may end up going in for the bypass too!!! Sorry to be harsh, this thread is just scary!!!

    Attention ! Australian Sleevers

DON'T GET IT!!!! It's got a really gritty texture and is very expensive! Lucky they took returns! It was worst thing ever!!

    Multivitamin Debate

According to my dermatologist you don't need biotin supplements. The hair loss is caused by other physiological changes. Some people would disagree but I recommend just getting a good multi that has some biotin in it. Use a sulphate free shampoo to take care of the hair you have, and if you do get hair loss in patches you can get a topical ointment from your pcp or see a derm.

    Multivitamin Debate

Xtendlife has about double almost the same ingredients in my swisse women's multivitamin, but you have to take 2 of the xtendlife to get that amount and its five times more expensive!!! I'm sticking with swisse. I think some of things are fairly obvious like the type of calcium that doesn't absorb in us, (but they sell it anyway) and those protein bullets that aren't any good... But a decent enough multivitamin is fine, of course it doesn't replace a healthy diet, but the amount of iron or calcium or vitamins in most multis are sufficient to make up for any deficiencies you might have... In conclusion, buy the "better" vitamins if you can afford them, but you'll see most of it come back out the next time you pee

    Drinking With Meals.

Great advice! I usually read vst I also eat wayyyyyy less with company- I'm a talker and everyone always says I'm such a slow eater when we go out in groups! Oh and turn the TV off- it works in the opposite way!!!

    Flirting

Oh, it can be really hard to tell- its good if you're obviously getting along it means your compatible... Try the touch factor! If they have a beard or curly hair you can try briefly touching it, it will see how comfortable he is and show him you don't mind being touched back. Same thing with his arm or leg, a gentle brush and laugh or big smile. You will have to be more confident around him, smile bigger, laugh a little more, treat him like you would a girl friend. You can also get more serious, you can ask for (or offer to do) a "favour" that takes a little while and encourages more contact, like getting a coffee for you (him), helping you carry some parcels, fix something, lend/borrow something... Basically anything you can think of to make the relationship more personal... Usually this will also send off alarm bells to let him know you do actually like him and his company... You can also use the excuse you need some fresh air would he like to go for a walk with you... After all this extra attention if he doesn't ask you out for a drink after dinner or actively make excuses himself to stay around you longer then he is just being friendly I got my boys attention because I wasn't flirting, I was just being nice and playing pool with him and I hurt my hand, he came over and rubbed it better and I felt the sparks... He did too because he kissed me (to the complete dismay of my friends who had been fawning over him!) lol Now that your on the losers bench you'll get a lot of attention but the rules still apply, if you give out attention and they just accept it and don't offer their own (basically ask you out!) then it's time to move on to the next one

    Drinking While Eating.

I think it can be the same if you have low blood pressure (like me) or diabetes etc... There's a YouTube that explains the long and short of why its generally not done: http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=xR0VM3mnsgM&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DxR0VM3mnsgM&gl=GB

    Attention ! Australian Sleevers

Soft cheese platter? Finger foods are better because ppl won't pay the same attention they might if it were a sit-down meal Anyway if you're really into the game you can fill up a platter and just leave it on the table or put some chicken soup in a beer mug... Might pass lol

    Calories

Of course his estimates were for a certain weight range. You have to eat more if you're significantly over-weight or train more, and less if you weigh less or are sedentary... Same applies to exercise, you'll burn more if you weigh more or have more muscle...

    Calories

I think the myfitnesspal readings are over optimistic too... I used to use the Alan borushek food & exercise journal, it always seemed to provide reasonable estimates... I think I heard once wiggling your fingers and toes burns 100 calories an hour... I still do it when watching tv... OCD much?! Lol
  22. I'm so sorry I can't imagine all I can say is my mum had three miscarriages and then a month after her third found out she was with me!!! Good luck with your future pregnancies!!!

Strange cat thing: if the litter boxes aren't immaculate one of my cats will wee wee on the bathroom floor mat!!! Nowhere else but there!!! And Rosie (my last remaining rescue pooch) always poops right at the front gate! I clean it up, the next morning it's right there again!! Frustrating! Lol

    Attention ! Australian Sleevers

@ nessa! I can hardly believe your nearly under 100!!! WOW!!!! My last weigh in was 128.5, down from 144-142ish... I'm hoping to be at least 127-125 this month (small goals, if I'm under 120 theyll be upset with me, but I've been logging my food so they will know I've been eating even it's not the amount they want - and not logging too much exercise on the sly ) lol Soon some of you will be asking about how to STOP losing!!! So excited for you all!!!
