    Pre op

Hang in there....you can do it! I start my 1 week liquid pre op diet in 2 days....I'll just have to remind myself that I need to hang in there. Think about how hot you will look after this. That's what I'm using as motivation to keep me going. Good luck with it !

    How to handle critics?

I told my closest friend at work that I am having a "cyst" removed from my stomach. that's what I decided to call the extra part of my stomach that is being removed. I know co-workers are going to ask her when I'm out. Ok...bad me, but just trying to preserve my mental health

    My doctor said...

Actually, he said he could go and pull records to let me know, but I stopped him and said I didn't need to know any further info. I like the fact that he didn't hesitate meaning he wasn't hiding anything from me. As for a follow-up visit that has already been set-up when I had my appt with the dietitian. Today, I had to agree to attend 3 months of their support group. I didn't think to ask about the anesthesia since I've had past surgeries with no problems. Pain meds didn't cross my mind because I usually may only take it the day of and day after surgery then no more.

    9 weeks post op

I don't know since I'm not there yet, but I believe there is a forum here somewhere about food and recipes. I'll be looking for it in about 2 months

    Getting ready physically and mentally

A small pillow to hold against your stomach so when you cough it will not pull on the stitches. 4 week supply of Protein drinks (per my dietitian) Take before pics (the nurse took it today at my pre-op doctor's appt; had her take some with my iphone also) As for me, I'm going to pamper my stomach before I begin my pre-op diet.
  8. From what I heard, the hair will grow back. Maybe you should see a dermatologist about the pimple things and maybe there's a different shampoo that would work better for your hair type. I hope it all works out for you.
  9. Just remember, losing slow and easy means less saggy skin.

    Hello Peeps

Feb 21 for me! No nervousness...just excited that it's next week. Oh and kind of fearful that it won't work for me

    best preop protein drinks

I like the premium protein drinks from Costco. They have vanilla and chocolate. I find that I like both.

    How can I do this?

I can totally relate to how you feel. I begin my preop diet Thursday and I'm afraid I won't be able to stick to it or the surgery won't work for me. I guess we just have to take it a day at a time. Good luck to you
  13. Ok. I stretched the truth and said there was a bump (cyst) to be removed and part of my stomach has to go. Ok I guess it is a lie but I can't handle telling the truth

one week out n starting to worry

I recently finished the 6 month program with Kaiser and had my appt with the surgeon's dietician. The dietician told me not to take Vitamins until 2 weeks out when I can start soft foods. This is because many people get nauseous with vitamins and no real food.

    Lack of support

I think family opinions are based on family dynamics. With my family, I know it would be envy. Something I could do to improve myself that could make me appear better than them. Or criticism that I'm weaker than them because I couldn't do it on my own as they can. So I've learned early on with my family, not to mentioned anything until it's well after the fact. I'm just glad my immediate family (hubby and kids) are supportive. Their opinions are the ones that matter the most to me! Hopefully, your family will come around and support you. If not, to the heck with them...you've got the support of your hubby!

    Hello

Hi, hope everything goes well with your psych eval. Mine didn't ask too much info. I was really worried about mine since I am on anti-depressants and was afraid they would think I was not mentally prepared for this. Good luck with your eval!
  19. Yeah, it's hard waiting for their approval. Maybe if you mention about your insurance expiring soon, they would get on the ball. Try not to get depressed about it. I believe in a higher being (God) and if you were meant to get the sleeve, you will overcome any obstacles and have that sleeve one day! I hope everything works out for you.
  20. I just tell them it's doctors appointments. No need to tell them any details. I've also given work when I will have surgery (without mentioning the type of surgery). When anyone asks me, I just say some health issues. good luck with your work!

    Be honest....

Okay, how many people "pigged out" on food prior to the pre-op diet? I start mine on Feb 14th and I find that I am eating all kinds of food and eating more than prior to getting insurance approval for surgery. Once I got the approval, I noticed that I've fallen into some old eating habits. I just hope I can quit after my new stomach heals.

    100% covered with Kaiser

I have kaiser and I only have a $5 copay for surgery. It's base on what your company pays/negotiates for. I'm very happy with kaiser. The 6 month process was long but I'm through that phase now.

    Getting Sleeved On The 21st

Hi Shan, I'm a Feb 21 sleever also. Hope your twin is feeling better and have a speedy recovery. I think in the ointment section at drug stores, there's ointments to help with scars. Oh, I think one of the bigger incisions is so that the doctor can remove the stomach they cut off.

    DC/MD/VA sleevers

Hi, I'm from Ashburn, VA and will be getting sleeved at Virginia Hospital Center by Dr. Mayes. He's in the same office as Dr. Salameh. Anyone else have Dr. Mayes?

    Introduction to the Forum

Hi and welcome. I think you're making the right decision to not say anything until close to surgery. You don't need others swaying your decison. I don't plan on tell anyone until after the surgery. I don't want to hear there opinions/criticism. My husband is supportive and my kids understand my decision. Those are the real opinions that count to me. Good luck with your journey!
