    feeling like a failure

Just remember less saggy skin....of course I probably will feel the same way after I get sleeved that I'm not losing as enough. I'm retraining my thoughts that it's good and will be less saggy skin.

    Anyone thinking about their mortality?

Thanks you all! I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks this way. I know the death rate/complication rate is low with this surgery. Weird, I never thought like this with past surgeries...maybe because this one is considered more elective than required as others were. Oh well, I'm still ready for it
  4. When I have my surgery later this week, I know there will be one leak test the day after surgery. I know I will need to be careful with my stomach and not overeat to cause any stretching or possible leaks. My doctor told me that it takes 6 months for the stomach to completely heal. That's why it's no blind NG tube for 6 months.
  5. Surgery is Thursday and my medical id bracelet just come in today. The doctor told me that there should be no blind NG tube for the next 6 months as my stomach heals and to limit NSAIDs. Occasionally is ok, but it shouldn't be on a regular basis. I plan on wearing the bracelet just for 6 months so I got a cheap stainless steel one. The total cost was $30 with engraving. I had my first name engraved on the front and on the back I put: VS Gastrectomy date of surgery - weight No blind NG tube no/limit NSAIDs ICE Anyone else wearing a medical id bracelet?

    Best Friend Help

I've only told one of my sisters and my brother that I am having the surgery. My sister "kind of" put me down for not having will power to lose weight and keep it off. Surprisingly, my brother didn't say anything negative about it and he's the one I expected some. He just asked to me to let him know how it goes. Maybe he has some interest since he is over weight, but have lost a lot with gall bladder surgery. I told a co-worker that I was having a "cyst" removed...hey that's what I'm calling my "extra" stomach that is being removed...that's my story and I'm sticking to it. I did say that the doctor may be removing part of the stomach in the process....ok ok, I bent the truth some, but it's all good and doesn't hurt anyone.
  7. Maybe you should start taking the calcium and vitamin D supplements now to help with the bone recovery.

    Pre-op diet

I'm in my one week pre-op diet of High protein shakes and clear liquids. My doctor told me this was to shrink my liver, making it easier to get to the stomach. I would think your doctor would give you more specifics. Maybe you should ask.

  17. I think I remember hearing something about if you have diabetes then the bypass may be better than the sleeve. Is that why you take metformin ?

    SF Jello and SF Gatorade?

I'm on my pre-op diet and I wasn't told to stay away from "red" SF jello. Why do you think we should stay away from "red"?
