  1. I think the title says it all. I have lost almost 60 pounds. I feel great. Doctor would like for me to lose another 20 before I stop. I have noticed I am feeling hungry more often and I can eat more. My weight has stayed the same for about a month. I am taking a PPI, I am not drinking all my water, my hair is falling out like crazy. Has anyone been here? Thank you!

    Diet coke

I just drank too many and I don't want to go back to drinking them- I have a friend that had RNY and she can have one a day now, I think after a certain point you can have them in moderation but if I am going to have something that is not good for me I would rather have a glass of wine or chocolate- Just a choice of what we want I guess.

    Sleeve holds too much food

The first time you eat a piece of grilled chicken you will totally understand! It is a entirely different feeling than soft foods- it will shock you! My first real food was a grilled chicken nugget from chic fil a and I could not finish 1 one inch piece of chicken. Amazing. Before I ate that chicken I was hungry all the time, nothing made me feel full- you are doing perfect! This stage won't last long and before you know it you will be thin and eating normal.

    Pre-op diet and diet coke

I think most of us relate, I could drink a 6-12 pack of diet coke a day it was gross! I quit cold turkey but you need to replace it, I drink unsweet tea, I saw the post about snapple and crystal light, start experimenting with your new replacement. The good news is once you are over it- it tastes yuckie! You are doing great!

    Feb 14

I had mine done in Texas but I think you will be thrilled with your new sleeve and your new life! I was amazed at how fast I recovered and how fast I lost. Just be patient with the first month post op. I was hungry and frustrated, just remember it is not forever! You will feel and eat like a normal person again. I eat meat, fruits and veggies and I go to restaurants with my family. It is just hard the first couple weeks when you are on liquid and mashies to remember you will eat again and this is just temporary!! Good luck to you and congrats!

    Vitamins

After 4 months I finally found a multi vitamin I like. They are ameriwell tabs and you dissolve them in water and it makes a little "jello shot" that you slide down- tastes like a vitamin jello but not gritty and has a great dose of all that I need and only 15 a month. Some may not like the hassle of making jello each week but I make a weeks worth at a time and I will actually take these- my chewable just sit there- I don't like chewing them and so I put them off and then end up not taking them.
  7. Sleeved 9/17 down 59, met with doc today they would like to see me at 156 so about 25 more! Gotta get In gear and get it done!!

    HURT BY COWORKERS

I have worked in all male field and all female field and if I could go back to all male I would in a heart beat! Women in groups like that can be jealous and catty. I am sure if you had any other surgery they would have sent flowers and have been concerned about you. They are not because they see this as an elective surgery you are doing so that you will look hotter than them. They are not educated on this surgery or why we do it. People really only care about themselves. Stop investing in people in treat you like trash and invest in those who care and understand you. I sound a little bitter but after losing a bunch people now care and I don't have time for them.
  9. It comes off fast but not overnight. l remember being a month out and thinking- "why am I not thin? I never eat!" Now that I am 4 months out I can't believe I lost so much so fast. I guess it is all relative! I think men lose faster than women. I have lost 56 in 4 months, I have female friends who have lost 100 in the same time frame.
  10. I eat cheese, lunch meat, turkey salami, beans, protein shakes, green salads with grilled chicken, ground beef patties, almonds, eggs. I have a 90 calorie pre-portioned tillamock cheese cube that is my go-to snack when I need a little something.

BCBS of il - covers half?

I have BCBS IL and I didn't have that, it was paid for like normal after deductable. It may be something the employer has dictated. I know employers can put different "riders" so to speak on this surgery. I didn't have any.

    The begining of my story

You are making a great choice. I had a similar struggle with weight and I am only 4 month post op but feel this was the only solution for me. I think you will be so happy with your choice! Good Luck and Congrats to you!

    I fu@#ed up today

We were sleeved about the same time and I have had more than one of these days! I I don't think you did anything wrong! You didn't eat as healthy as you have been in the past but your portions were TINY! Before surgery I could eat 5 slices of pizza and 12 chicken wings, maybe you could have too. I think that is the biggest change. The bad food isn't quite so bad when your only eating 100 calories of them vs. 1500 calories. I think you are doing great!

    Pardon my bluntness...

This surgery was on our stomaches and not our brains. We are the same people pre and post op, so why would we not have the same issues with food? People don't understand that the sleeve is just a tool in our battle with the disease of obesity. I don't care if I wake up one day weighing 100 lbs, I am going to fight obesity the rest of my life- that is my bodies and my personalities disposition. No one should ever belittle anyone one this forum for these awful choices we make with food if we didn't make awful choices with food we wouldn't be here. You think undergoing a life changing surgical procedure would be a "wake up" call? The pain of being obese is far worse than this surgery. And the cost? I have spent far more in my lifetime on fly by night diets than this surgery. Anyone who believes this surgery is the be all, end all does not get obesity an has no right to offer advice in this forum. We are addicts, you do not get to be 100 lbs over your ideal body weight on accident.
  15. My insurance covered my surgery after my deductible. I work at a satellite office and don't see our HR people but once or twice a year. I made a point when I was at the office in January (4 months post op) to go to the HR office and tell all of them about my surgery and how it has changed my life, how loyal I felt to our organization and what a better job I have been doing because of my increased self esteem since my weight loss. I am sure they think I am a total nut, but I kinda got emotional talking about it. I told them the reason I wanted them to know all this is because I know every year they are faced with making cuts and changes and how important it was to not exclude bariatric surgery to save money. They all kinda looked surprised and happy, I don't think they get thanked very often but I wanted to ensure this amazing benefit was there for others, I would have never been able to have this without my insurance. I know how life changing it is.

    biggest regret

I think that is why they want you to wait so long after surgery to have a baby. I think as long as you eat very well and are on top of your vitamins you will be great!
  17. I was told I needed to take Calcium Citrate in a liquid form. I can't find one I like and therefore am not doing well taking it daily. Are you taking Calcium Citrate and if so what kind? I need something new! Thank you!
  18. I had a couple. I was 240, so I needed to lose about 100 pounds, I thought I could do that with the sleeve, I thought sleeve was a more simple procedure since it did not involve rerouting. Also, I take meds for a small seizure disorder and the meds I take for that would not have worked with the malabsorbtion of the RNY but caused no issued with the sleeve, so it was pretty easy for me.
  19. I was one who also hated the shakes but I have to have them to get my protein, I can only have the premier pre-mixed chocolate from SAMs at $18 a box for 12. It takes a while to get used to the taste and texture but now I just feel like I am drinking chocolate milk. You just have to search until you find one you can stand.
  20. I am four months out as well and I thought my eyes were just getting worse because of age. I don't even wear my current glasses because they don't help at all. I never made the connection that this had something to do with my WLS. Is there any research done on this?

    Cheeseburgers?

I said this before and got my head taken off but I will say it again, there are some people who are extreme and those who use the sleeve as a tool lo help them enjoy a more healthful life. I have a young daughter who plays competitive sports, that includes late nights and travel. I work full time. I make healthy choices when I can and sometimes I eat the heck out if a jr, Whataburger with cheese and no bun and guess what? I eat a couple fries!!! That's right and I love the hell right out of everyone of them!! I have lost 55 lbs and I am so happy. I eat 100 times better than I did four months ago no doctor is going to tell me that a fast food hamburger once or twice a month is going to hurt me, my calories are low everyday, my cholesterol is healthy. The thing that really bothers me about the tone on this thread is that everyone here has been fat or we wouldn't be here. Now that you are finding success with the sleeve you feel it gives you the authority of a NUT to scold members who are not following your food plan. When the fact is if you knew so much you would have never needed the sleeve to begin with. So pardon my defensiveness but be nice to each other!! Haven't we had this treatment from thin people all our lives!!
  22. I needed this surgery at 21 but I don't think I was mature enough, but that is me. I know some 16 year olds that listen better than I do at 41. I think it depends on her. What does she say when you tell her no more cokes? At 21 I wasn't done thinking I knew everything and ready to listen to my doctor. I am actually starting to believe I might not know it all now.

    Sleeve vs band

My doctor gave me the facts about both and let me decide. It was easy for me, the band is a foreign object in your body that can slip and errode. You have to have the band filled. You also have more grehlin left in your body than if you choose vsg. You might want to check out the band board and see what they say about complications and those who are going in and revising from band to vsg. I am 4 months post op and thrilled with my decision to do this and this and not the band. This is something I can live with and not be going for fills. Just my 2 cents but everyone is different and you have to do that is best for you!

    Amount of hair loss...

I take biotin, my hair loss started at 2 months post op and is still going strong. I had very thick hair but I am still shocked I have any hair left as much as I have had fall out. Everyone says that it is normal and it will stop and grow back but I am getting pretty worried. I have my 4 month follow up on the 30th and i really will be looking for better answers than I have been getting so far. I saw Aveda has a new product out for hair loss that is very expensive and I am thinking of trying that.
  25. thanks for posting, I am 4 months out and notice that I can eat more and also adding more snacky carb foods that I know I should not. I am watching the scale like a hawk and I am still losing- slowly but scared of old habits creeping in. I never want to go back where I was before. I am not drinking my water and trying to eat just 3x a day so I am going to increase my water and do 6 mini meals so ward off hunger. great post!
