I give you a lot of credit for making this decision and moving forward in a positive way. Most likely the sleep apnea will be cured after you start to lose. Our families only want the best for us, and are afraid to lose us. You know what you have to do and you will start feeling better that you have taken control of an out-of-control situation. We've all been where you are. Asking how did we get here. There are many variables, we all need to figure out the why so it doesn't happen again. You are making positive decisions for your future and you are among friends here. Best of luck to you.

  4. Great information. Often times when we order out from work, we'll get the fillings of a sub. (turkey, Tuna, veg) and have them just put it over lettuce. Put the seasoning on and get some vingar/olive oil on the side. The nearby deli starting putting these "Lite platter alternatives" on their special menu.

    4 months post op pics

Beautiful! Congratulations on such great progress!!
  6. I was also given "tylenol" in my IV every 4 hours, but it wasn't tylenol. I can't remember the name but nurse said it was "liquid tylenol" It was very effective. At home I took Hydrocodone for one day, then crushed tylenol after. Pain wasn't really an issue at all, I was just tender. I think the Tylenol helped much more with the inflammation.

    Start Liquids tomorrow!

Not sure, call your pharmacy and check, I bet they would know if a shake is sufficient. If not, your doctor can let you know what to take with it.

    Need a good iron supplement

I take Virtron C, but take it at night, it tends not to bother me if I take it before bed.

Did you keep it a secret?

It really is a shame that there is a stigma attached to weight loss surgery, I think in short time that will change. With celebrities/public figures reporting on their decision and success, I think public perception will change. Anyone who has not struggled long term with weight issues really can never understand how hard it is, and how having this surgery can seem like a life saver. In a lot of cases it is. I'm glad you found this forum, we get it and have been where you are. I know for me it was the very best thing I ever did for myself.

    Pure Protien

Pure Protein has been my go-to from the start. I actually like the powder better, I use Smart Balance Fat Free/Lactose Free and its the same 35gms Protein. I like to add sugar free peppermint syrup to it. YUM. Pure protein makes some good Protein Bars too (The REvolution is my fav) . My NUT approved, but only wants me to have one a day, she would rather me get my calories from food.

Did you keep it a secret?

It is a hot topic for sure. I come from a very large family. I told most I was having surgery before hand, those I rely on for support and whose opinion I value. Some knew earlier than others, and that was really based on me coming to grips with it. I did explain that it is my news to share and if anyone wanted information, it should come from me. I'm not someone who inquires about other's opinions on matters personal to me, I research things a lot and base my decisions on the facts I find. The people that know me, know I don't' dive in without knowing all I can on a subject. I could not have hoped for a more supportive group of people, I know I'm blessed. Some members of my family and some friends get in their own way and form opinions based on what they believe to be true, based in fact or not. It is based in love, but I didn't' want to have to debate the topic knowing it would only lead to frustration on my part and unnecessary worry on theirs. I did tell the rest after the fact. Other than my family and a few close friends, I didn't share unless I was asked. At work I shared with the two women in my office. They have always been supportive of my weight loss efforts and I felt I could. I did ask them not to share the information and found out later that one did share it with other staff who in turned asked me about it. I knew the potential for this, and am not in any way embarrassed or ashamed of my decision. It's a very personal choice to share our private business. It's up to you and you alone to decide what works best for you.
  16. I agree, it's individual. I know that as soon as I take in any sugar or higher carb items, I start craving them and want more. Unfortunately, I need to keep them out of my house. I'll allow for a treat now and then in moderation, but I can't keep any supply at home. At work, I can avoid the junk always, at home it's harder.

Harder To Lose Post-Op: Anyone Else?

It has got to be frustrating to be doing what you are instructed and it doesn't seem to be going as smooth. You may actually be taking in too few calories. If you're working out every day, you just might need more. Have you talked to your NUT recently? At 6 weeks out I was taking in about 800 calories a day and was satisfied, but losing very slowly. My Nut upped it to 1000 and it was steady until about 9 or 10 months out and slowed a bit. But I knew to expect the last bit to be the hardest to lose. Good luck..

    Weight History

If you had any doctors (primary, gynecologist, etc.) where you used to live call and ask them to fax a letter giving your weights. I'f you have gone to weight watchers or any where else you tracked your weight, get records from there.
  21. For the better! All those things changed and more. I dont' ache like I used to.. Got my 1 year labs back and for the first time in about 20 years, I wasn't anemic. I do have more confidence. I'm not trying to hide under baggy clothing anymore. I dont' think I've changed exactly, just being a much better, healthier version of me. Good luck!!

    Heyyyy I need help

My doctor told me when it was comfortable, it would be ok. It took a few weeks for me.
  23. I started my process in June of 2012 and had surgery in December 2012. I had planned on a 6 month wait, and decided to joined weight watchers for the last time. I wound up losing almost 60 lbs. It kept me accountable and motivated me to lose as much as I could before surgery. Research and learn as much as you can, start your good habits now. Potentially we can all lose the weight, it's keeping it off long term that has evaded me. Until now, I hope. Take this time for the opportunity it is. It will go fast. The only one you have to convince of anything is yourself. If you feel you can do it on your own. More power to you! Only you know if moving forward with surgery is best. Don't let what others may or may not think stop you from starting to do your best now. Good luck!!

My doctor said no for the same reason as Indigo's... It was enough for me. But I wasn't a big gum lover to begin with.
