    October 100 Mile Challange!

    Sweet!! Totally doable!!
  2. I know it may sound corny to some, but I really believe our mindset going into this is crucial. Knowing that I made the choices I did for myself was empowering, for lack of a better word. No one likes being told what they can and can not have, especially when there are no big, obvious physical repercussions. And no one that loves food likes the idea of giving things up. But you know, we are stronger than we think. No one NEEDS a box of donuts for their survival. You will absolutely hear of folks who had no pre-op diet, cheated throughout, and/or had food funerals up the wazoo. But none of us know each others histories. Maybe my doctor always has a 2 week pre-op regardless, but maybe I needed it for other reasons. Maybe someone else has other medical issues that their doctors felt a longer/stricter pre-op was mandated. We put our trust in our surgeon to take out a majority of our stomach. It made sense to me to trust and follow her instructions going into it and after. Everyone makes their choices, good or bad. Draw strength and encouragement from folks here. They/we have been through the same things, it is hard on everyone, but so worth it. I go back and read posts that inspired and encouraged me all the time. I know I'm not the first to experience things in this process, so I always search the main page for words of wisdom from those that came before. Good luck on your pre-ops!!

    Have to lose

It's a lot to lose in a week, but can be done. Not all liquid diets are equal. Did your doctor give you specifics for your liquids? Shakes/clears etc? Lots of Water, walk or exercise as much as you can. Good luck!

Getting needed info for insurance approval!

Did you do weight watchers online at all? Or make payments with a credit card? Email Weight watchers corporate if you need to, they should have everything. Have you ever done Jenny Craig or any others? I submitted my statements with payments on it for "proof" IF need be, sign up for WW online now and in three months you'll have your proof.

    November 15th

Congrats!! Tiki!! Lots of prayers coming your way!!
  7. You got this. Look at it as an opportunity to start and follow through with better choices. You'll be getting yourself into the best shape you can for your upcoming surgery. AND, you didn't have the added time to dive into "food funerals", leading to possible gain. Stay strong, it is worth it!! There is a great thread here http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/78443-the-pre-op-diet-is-not-a-punishment-its-an-opportunity/ Don't worry about what you may or may not have missed out on, you'll be able to have your favorites again if you choose after surgery. Best of luck!!

    expected weight loss by group

I think surgery or not, those groups have a harder time losing. Slow and steady wins the race on this one! I'm 44 so pretty much in the same boat, but hey, why don't we try and be the exception! You can't compare yourself to other's losses, it is too frustrating and not a good indicator. Unless you have every detail of that person's medical, eating, exercise and weight history, we don't really know the factors that go into it. When have you ever lost almost 15 pounds a month ? You are doing great, continue on your path and do your best. I am 10 1/2 months out and averaging about 10lbs a month post op. My nut told me I might lose a little slower since I lost almost 60lbs pre op.. I wouldn't change a thing it's a marathon not a sprint and I'll ride the wave as long as it will have me! Good luck!!
  14. I'm sorry this is hard for you. How far out and what food stage are you on? Oftentimes, stomach acid mimics hunger pains, my surgeon put me on a PPI for a month after surgery.

    FEB (BCBS Federal) plastic surgery

Good info to have. Did he happen to mention if your primary can deem it necessary or if it has to be a specialist like a dermatologist? Thanks for sharing.

    Just got approved

Congratulations on your approval! Deciding to move forward with surgery is a personal decision. Surgery might not be for everyone. Ask questions, gather all your information - the good and the bad -, know the risks and the rewards and be confident in whatever you choose. Take your time deciding. You got over a big hurdle, approval. For me, it was the best thing I have ever done for myself. I am thankful every day to have this tool to aid me on my journey to a healthier me.
  20. Amazing!! Congratulations!

SF Popsicles that don't have artificial sweeteners?

I dont' know of any, but if you can't find maybe you can make your own using Vitamin Water Zero. Lots of flavors, no calories and uses Stevia. You can get ice pop molds in a bunch of places - Amazon for one. http://www.amazon.com/Tovolo-Groovy-Ice-Molds-Yellow/dp/B000G32H3Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1382473579&sr=8-1&keywords=ice+pop+molds Good luck!
  22. It can only go up to 140 degrees F (all powdered Protein changes texture after 140 degrees), I purchased a very inexpensive digital infrared thermometer on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Nubee%C2%AE-Temperature-Non-contact-Infrared-Thermometer/dp/B00CVHIJDK/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1382473205&sr=8-11&keywords=digital+thermometer) and used it to gauge my temps. I also mixed my chocolate shake mix with warm water to make a hot cocoa and added some peppermint sugar free Torani syrup.

    24 hours post-op

Congratulations!! Even when I wasn't walking, I would roll my shoulders around, just to try to move the gas. It only lasted a day or so. Heat helped too. Be well!!

One week post is it safe to do the eliptical?

I would check with your doctor to make sure, doing the arms would give me pause. You are still healing. I prefer the elliptical over the treadmill too. My elliptical has stationary handles, you may want to start with that, if it is an option. Good luck and Congratulations on your surgery and feeling so good!!
