  1. Hi newgrandmother, I know what you are going through. I hit a low of 185, then put 10 lbs back on and I've been struggling to lose those 10 lbs and more for the past 4 months. I've been training to do a 1/2 marathon this Spring but even that isn't making the numbers move. Very frustrating! But we have the tool, we just have to keep trying and keep motivating each other to do what we know to do. I'm going to work on eating more Protein and less carbs. And to cut out the snacking! Stay strong, we can still do this!!

  2. Sorry you hit a stall. We all know it's frustrating.

I know it's not what you want to hear but I think you just have to keep doing what your doing and wait it out. Are your measurement changing and do you feel great about all the success you have accomplished?

I'm not sure about my measurements, I've never taken them. But I do feel great and I would rather be where I am now, even if this is it for weight loss than where I was 6 months ago. Thanks for reminding me that I need to remember how far I've come, it's really been a big change. I'm smaller now than I've been since high school.

  3. I've been stuck at the same general weight for like a month. I don't know what to do. I try to track my food on my fitness pal and I don't go over calories (1200). I've been doing Water aerobics twice a week and training on the couch to 5K for the past 6 weeks. I'm jogging for 20 minutes at a time but the scale just doesn't move. What the heck is going on? Should I do strength training, more cardio, eat more, eat less? This is why I could never lose weight on my own LOL, I never knew what to do!

  4. Did anyone have United Health Care??? If so, know of a excellent Bariatric Doctor??

My Mom wants to have surgery and is trying to look into it now.

I have United Health Care, their website will tell you what bariatric surgeons are in the network in your area. Once you get that list, you can start researching them, reading reviews etc. Good luck to your Mom, the insurance worked well for my surgery once I jumped through all the hoops they wanted.

  5. I'm with you ArtSong, I was sleeved 9/14/12 and am down 54 lbs and I was really happy with that, 3 weeks ago! scale has not moved in three weeks and I'm worried that I'm doing something wrong! I still getting in all my Protein and Water and eating around 800 calories, and I know stalls happen and to be patient but to get on the scale and find it has not moved is upsetting! I could up my exercise, only getting to walk 3 days a week or so plus some strength training at home due to my work schedule and my kids activites schedule. This stall has me feeling really down!

I been feeling the same way, long stall and the same 3 or 4 lbs keep cycling through the scale - lose them and gain them back. Very frustrating! I started doing the "couch to 5K" training thinking that might kick the lbs but nope. I'll try adding more weight training next week.

  6. then this surgery could be right for you. I was fat (obese) for all of my adult life, I have NEVER shopped in Normal size stores (only if they had a Plus size section). I am loving it, I wear size 14 now, I ride a bicycle again (haven't done that since I was a teenager), I am starting to jog, I feel so much more confident and so much energy! Sometimes when I'm walking, I feel like I could just start flying. I will never regret having this done. I know that some people have had very serious issues associated with their surgery, it is major surgery. But for me it was worth it. Good luck!

  7. Mexican food has been a life-saver for my social life. When the family wants to eat out, I suggest Mexican so I can get grilled meat (fajita or shrimp) and Beans. I don't eat the rice but I never used to eat it before on my diabetic diet. I have had a couple of chips but if I eat too many then I know I won't eat anything else. I usually bring 2/3 of the meal home and have it for lunch for the next two days. Favorite so far: cheese and shrimp quesadilla on the kids menu - it was delicious and I could eat almost 1/2 of it!

  8. newgrandmother, that's so funny. I saw my Dr on Monday and she said I've got slightly too much Calcium in my urine (TMI sorry) and it could lead to kidney stones. She said to cut back on cashews, almonds and peanuts. Those were my go to Snacks at work. So, I decided to try beef Jerky instead. So far so good. I have a low fat, low sodium teriyaki flavor that I like. A little bit goes a long way, by the time I finish chewing it I'm no longer hungry.

I'm almost 5 months out, yes, I'm losing some hair but not enough to make me worried. I don't dry it with a blow dryer or use any product on it (my fantastic hairdresser helped me find a style that allows me to do this), so maybe that helps? I'm taking 5000 mg of Biotin twice a day and using Nutrix Shampoo and conditioner.

I use MFP to track my Protein and calories, I usually get well over 50 g of protein a day.

  9. I confess i sometimes feel like a failure im 8 months out and down only 51 pounds since surgery and its been really slow the last few months. Im scared i wont get to goal. And i feel judged by my family for not loosing faster

I'm sorry your family is making you feel you're doing badly. If they don't go through it themselves, they have no clue. And everyone is different! Hang in there and keep working the sleeve as your doc told you, you'll get there!
