    Lifting

My Dr. says not to lift anything over 10 lbs. for 6 weeks to avoid an ahernia.
  2. Hi. I am 11 days after my banding and today my port site seems more"pronounced". Has anyone noticed this? Is it because the swelling of the whole stomach is going down? No extra pain or redness.
  3. Hi Cindilou. Hope you are doing well. I felt the same way yesterday when I started mushies. Maybe try to have a little warm cereal like cream of wheat. It is a little smoother. Everything went well for me with it. Just eat very slowly, little bites and chew it well. I even chew the cereal abit! Good luck!

I feel the same way. But I have to say I feel like a new person being on mushies now. I had a half serving of cream of wheat for lunch and did not feel hungry again until 7:00 pm. The cream of wheat really kept me full. I am scared of the calories too. My Dr. said not to panic if I gain a couple lbs. back before my first fill since I am going from not eating for 2 weeks to eating again. Just to make good choices. I have to say that losing 17 lbs is motivational! Good luck and keep in touch!
  5. Hi there. I was banded on May 29. I had several different kinds of pain. Yours sounds like gas pain. I just started feeling hunger yesterday. It was not as painful as what you are describing. You are just out of surgery and can expect to feel different pains. If you are worried, call your Dr. You will feel better and rest easier. You will feel like a new person one week from now!! Rest and heal. Good luck!

I had my first post op today and have been advanced to pureed or mushies diet. Cream of wheat has never tasted so good! One week of mushies and I can then advance to soft foods. Hopefully, the worst is behind me. I lost 17 lbs in 10 days but now I really have to be careful of what I eat. I dont want to back pedal. I hope I can be strong!

    Protein Shakes

I did it 3 times in the first 7 days post surgery. I could not get any of the high protein shakes down. Putting 2 tablespoons of no sugar added ice cream was a better idea that not getting any protein at all. It was not a long term solution. The nutritionist sais it was ok under the circumstances. I have lost about 14 lbs. in 10 days since surgery so I would say no damage done.
  8. :help:Today is day nine after banding and I am suddenly quite hungry. I go tomorrow for my post op and they are going to switch me to the pureed or mushies diet. I feel like I could go to the kitchen and eat a sandwich!! Of course I wont. But does anyone have any suggestions for tonight? I am fighting the impulse!!

    Protein Shakes

Hi. I am 9 days post band and am very picky about the taste of the shakes. Banana creme muscle milk with a little edys no sugar added vanilla slow churned is good. The ice cream cut that "proteiny" taste. Also, The sugar free carnation instant breakfast is great and I fortify it with 2 tablespoons of nonfat dry milk. Hope it helps!
  10. Hey Cindylou. I was banded a few days after you. I saw that you were having a rough time. How are you doing now? Well, I hope. I felt so bad that you were having such a tough go of it. Hope things are better!
  11. Hi. I was banded 9 days ago. I know the pain in the port area and the gas makes it more intense. Have you tried a heating pad (not directly on the port though) It may feel soothing. You are in the toughest time. If anyone had told me 8 days ago that I would feel this much better today, I would never have believed them. The gas will begin to pass. Not to be gross, but you may start to have a bit of diarrhea and although inconvenient, it may help relieve some of the pain. Hang in there!
  12. I had my surgery on Tues and think I may be feeling my first hunger pangs! Is this early for this to happen?:help:
  13. I am 8 days post op and my Dr has just said I can try a scrambled eggwhite or egg to get my protein level up. I was having the same anxiety about never having my favorite foods again. I guess being so limited right now is the hardest part. Will life feel normal again soon? Or will a fill be the only help?:help:
  14. I had my surgery on Tues. May 29, and was told that I would probably see a weight gain after the hospitalization due to the fluids and the gases. When does weight loss start?
  15. My Doctor already has me on protein shakes, yogurt smoothies. Any liquid as long as it is smooth. It does fill me up. I was just wondering.

    May 2007 Banders

Hi all. I was banded on Tuesday and have had a bit of a rough road but hope I am turning a corner now. I ended up spending a night in the ICU because every time I fell asleep my respiration would drop dangerously low. I was fine the next day and was moved back to the regular surgical unit but had to stay an extra day. I think the fact that I could not walk that first day in ICU but my recovery is going slowly and I am up every 4 hours during the night drenched in sweat and needing my pain meds. I hope I start feeling better soon. Any advice?:help:
  17. :help:Hi all. I was banded on Tues and ended up spending the night in intensive care because the narcotic meds were repressing my breathing. Went back to the regular unit on Weds but Doc did not ler me out until tonight. I am still having alot of pain and gas and am so depressed and exhauseted. Can anyone offer me words of inspiration that this will get better soon?
