  1. Dr. Alvarez is AMAZING!! I had surgery 2 years ago TOMORROW!...and I am down 200 pounds!! Highest weight was 350, currently holding 150 give or take a few pounds. I was nervous at first, but once I met him and the staff I knew it was the best choice! I had paid for the surgery myself (i had no insurance).

My entire experience was AMAZING!!...I can HONESTLY say that I had the best care at his facility that I have ever had in my life. I was 18 years old when I had surgery. For me, my recovery went very easy..little to no pain at all, followed my diet instructions, exercised..and weight just started coming off. I know everyone is different I am just telling how it worked for me :)

Susan his patient coordinator is awesome, she helps with anything and gets back to me almost instantly! Even post-op I still talk to them!

He is truly an incredible doctor with a huge heart :)

  2. I had a lot of problems with this too. Close family and friends, I made sure that they knew everything that was going on. I asked them to not speak publicly to their friends or family, and I just wanted to make sure I had a strong support system before I went into having WLS.

After the first few months of dropping weight, people obviously started to ask questions but at that point I was comfortable enough to explain what I did. I thought I would have to explain my reasons or argue with people, but honestly they could see how much happier and healthier I was. After loosing 200 pounds, most people don't really ask how I lost the weight, if they haven't seen me..all they can say is "WOW YOU LOOK GREAT CONGRATS!"

It's a personal choice, whatever YOU feel more comfortable doing.

  3. Ms.amby ...

Thats amazing .. You really are rocking your sleeve !! :) i myself am 20y/o and am really looking forward to getting sleeved within the next two months ..has your age made things any more difficult with the sleeve ..like going out with friends or stuff like that ??

To be honest it has made my life EASIER than when I was overweight! I made sure all of my friends knew that I did have it done, so that way they would understand why I choose not to eat junk food. When we are out I try and make the healthiest choices of food. When we have family/friend parties I will have a margarita or even wine and it doesn't bother me. Again drinking alcohol is not frequent for me. I'm so lucky to have been able to have the surgery when I was 18. These are the years I want to be healthy and live my life.

Simple things like shopping, or going to an amusement park, or even the movies seems so much easier because I can actually fit in the seats, and fit into clothes!

  4. I had mine June 11,2010..almost 2 years out and I lost 200 pounds! It was the BEST decision I have ever made for myself. Best advice would to make sure you get friendly with the gym sooner rather than later and keep hydrated! Also check out local support groups/ making sure you surround yourself with positive and supportive people. My starting weight was 350, currently steady between 145-150. If you have any questions feel free to message me!

  5. I finally joined this website again cause I saw there are some girls around my age, FINALLY :) lol

I had my VSG on June 11, 2010 by Dr. Alvarez. I have lost 200 pounds and let me say it feels AMAZING!

I had just turned 18 a month prior to having my surgery, and a lot of people called me crazy. Now they tell me that it's the best thing I could have done for myself and I agree.

I would love to chat with you ladies, feel free to contact me. Any questions, concerns, or if you just wanna chat let me know :)
