  1. Wow, you are encouring to me... I am also six weeks out, but only allowed eggs and fish and am truly getting tired of them. It is hard to get my Protein in without a daily shake - and I am REALLY tired of the uber sweet Protein shakes. I suffered a stall of my own - I weigh on Mondays and this last weigh in, I was 2lbs UP... I think I was eating too many carbs, although my total caloric intake was about 630 per day. I wonder if I am not eating enough?
  2. My doc says I should eat 70 grams of Protein and less than 30 grams of carbs each day. But not to worry about calories. Do you count protein grams? Carbohydrates? Calories? None of the above? Today marks my sixth week post op... I weigh myself on Mondays and today I am UP 2lbs. I am trying not to get discouraged... but it seems as though everyone does it differently... I know that last week I ate more than 30 grams of carbs a couple of days, but my caloric intake total was still around 650 calories... would this account for the weight gain?
  3. I am six weeks post op... I am looking for a low carb snack AND I have been craving cucumbers... Is there any reason I should not eat them? My doc is super strict - he only allows fish and eggs and I am SICK of fish and eggs...

Anyone Have A Problem With Cucumbers?

"I would listen to what your doctor says instead of asking relative stangers on the Internet for advice on your medical care" I hear what you are saying, but I like to ask others because my doctor (the only one covered by my insurance) is not at ALL approachable and answers very few questions, and those he does with attitude. He prides himself in being "tough" and has a, "because I said so..." approach. I am not four, and am much more compliant when I understand the reasons behind the directions.... I have found this board invaluable for getting insight to how OTHER doctors relate to their patients. My doctor has the bedside manner of Dr. Gregory House. He may be a good surgeon, but he is not a kind man.
  5. Thanks. I do track, and hit the treadmill regularly... but I do think maybe I got too carb heavy. *sigh* I will pay more attention to the carbs this week and see if the scale moves.

What To Pack For Kids' Lunches?

I was surprised to find out that my 10yr old liked hummus... He also liked cauliflower with ranch dressing. I also buy cheese sticks and pretzels as semi healthy snacks.

My Diet At 21 Months Post Op

Wow, my doc says no fruit for at least six months... I miss fruit. I am almost six weeks out and only allowed eggs and fish. I cheat and have greek yogurt, hummus and low carb Soups...

Calories, Carbs, Fat, Protein, Oh My!

This? This is what makes me crazy. My nutritionist and doctor appear to be sworn mortal enemies... Each one says the other is crazy and to "ignore what he/she said"... I want to slam my head into a wall sometimes because I just cannot get a straight answer...they are supposed to be working together but their non communication/agreement is making this so much harder than it needs to be.
  10. I have an uber strict doctor... Only allowed protein shakes, broth, eggs and fish until 7 weeks... Today I splurged on a craving and had five well chewed almonds... My stomach accepted them happily! What a relief... I thought it would be ok as I read so many posts from others eating a huge variety only two weeks out... My doc is a real hard ass...

    So Flipping Miserable

I'm pulling up a chair to wait for the advice you get... I am five weeks post op and still struggle with those feelings...

Calories, Carbs, Fat, Protein, Oh My!

I am also five weeks out... My doc says for me to focus on getting in 70 grams of protein and no more than 30 grams of carbs... He says to not worry about caloric count, just do that... I do find, however, that I average about 650 calories daily. I am down 33 lbs total since starting my two week pre op with surgery on 10/22.

  16. So, I am five weeks post op and not cleared for poultry... I can pretty much have fish and eggs... I brought a lobster cake to my family dinner and planned to splurge with one tablespoon mac and cheese... I ended up eating a smackeral of mac and cheese, less than a teaspoon of pineapple casserole and two cucumber slices! For some reason I had been craving cucumbers... I ate half of the lobster cake later on when everyone else was having dessert and I felt hungry again.. Bottom line... I felt completely satisfied and happy with my small splurges... I ate slowly and chewed well and had absolutely no problems or discomfort. Yay!
  17. I am five weeks post op and wondering... Will I ever be able to have just a taste of anything I want? Sign me: Seriously mourning food...
  18. Thank you. This is exactly what I needed to read. I feel better already! )
