    Tomorrows The Day!

Good luck!! Mine is scheduled for noon on Friday. Went through the whole pre-admin review on the phone this past Friday. Get to do all the pre-op stuff from home (anti-nasea patch, colon cleanse) on Thurs. Been on a liquid diet since 11/2....SO ready to be on the other side of it so I can start healing and move forward.

    Newbie Needs Help

The first week, my surgeon wants me on clear liquids, but to add protein bullets....1 42g bullet/day. Then the second week (after the first post-op appt) on to full liquids and the protein shakes.

I Think I Found My Transfer Addiction....

Could be worse. At least it's not something that's detrimental to your health. Congrats on the weight loss, and the ability to find something else that will keep you positive about your accomplishments! Cause when you look good, you feel good.

    Saving Them? Or Saving Us?

OMG! I'm going to have to warn my hubby. We have 2 cats and the girl loves to use the scratch box. She also loves to jump up into bed and cuddle between the 2 of us. Now I'm going to sleep with one eye open! Great story, and you're so lucky to have had the chance to have bear. Like I said, we have 2 cats (I was not a cat person when I got married, but the hubby was) and I want to get a dog. We're just afraid our girl cat (Lucy....yep, she's a redhead....flamepoint hymilaian) might try to eat them. She wasn't all that accepting of our little boy (Tigger) when we brought him home, so he had to sleep in a carrier until he was big enough to fight back. Hope your hubby heals quickly.

    Is It Bad...

I'm pretty sure that if you go in wanting to give the DMV money, they'll take your picture and renew you license as often as you want to pay for it. I say go do it....and enjoy! Oh, and when they ask you why.....BRAG ABOUT YOUR SUCCESS!! Congrats!

Patient Instructions Night Before Surgery Question ?

My nurse prescribed a Scopolamine patch to apply to the back of my shoulder the night before. It's to help with nausea. Other than that, just liquid diet (specifically as they have listed....nothing else but what's on the list) and nothing to drink 12 hours before surgery. Procedure is 11/16 at noon.

    218 / 217.8

I LOVE the elliptical. I used to do it for an hour at a time and would burn 700 - 800 calories. I stopped after a few months, because there were NO results that were positive. I essentially held ground right were I was. I must have been taking in enough calories to offset the calories I burned, so I was pretty much a hamster on that stupid thing. Now I'm hoping, once I'm sleeved and ready to start rigorous exercising again, that when I get on the elliptical and work my way back up to that level I will be able to kick butt and see results that I expect! If you can....push yourself to go longer on the elliptical. You will burn calories about 2-1 vs. the treadmill everytime....and the endorphens are WONDERFUL!!! Good luck.

    Lapband Is Finally Coming Out!

Any chance there's another bariatric center of excellence near you that you can go to for a second opinion? Maybe they would be able to to the revision (removal + sleeve) in the time before your COBRA runs out so you can still have it while covered? I know it's getting close to the end of the year, but it never hurts to try if the possibilities are available to you. Good luck. I hope you're able to find a surgeon who will be able to perform the procedure(s) you are wanting so you can get back on the road to slim. Going through all of that just to end up right back where you were at the beginning is heart breaking. We're all doing this because we've all traveled that road too many times, and the idea is to find a path that will not lead back to where we are! Hugs and prayers.

    Prayers Would Be Appreciated!

Holy Cow, really? I can't imagine they actually think removing your entire stomach in place of just removing 85% of it can be a better option. The decision makers at insurance companies sometimes make me wonder what in the world they are thinking. Perhaps it landed on someone's desk who had NO idea what a VSG was and denied it simply for no knowing instead of taking the time to learn what it is. If you meet all the requirements, and it's one of the covered procedures in your policy.....FIGHT! Stay on them and see if you can get your surgeon or primary to send letters on your behalf as well letting them know they recommend the surgery and give the reason(s) why. Good luck! You've got prayers from me!

Option For Full Liquid Stage (Post-Op)

I just saw this on my Facebook page, and reading through it, I thought it sounded pretty good (being a mushroom lover) and a way to sneak in some extra Protein through the greek yogurt addition. Thoughts? Mushroom Bisque

    Surgery Scheduled For November 19!

My procedure is on 11/16. Started the 2-week liquid diet last Friday (11/2). 5 8 oz. cups of milk with Carnation Instant Breakfast no sugar added, any unsweet beverage, sugar free jello-o, V-8, and up to 2 cups of broth/day. So far so good...down 3 lbs already! (Probably Water, which is always what people tell me when I mention losing low amounts....thanks for the support.) I hope everyone had quick recoveries! We'll all be rocking the spring fashions in '13. Yeah us!

    Caffiene

I asked my surgeon that specifically since I'm a black iced tea lover, and he was totally cool with me having as much as I like. Not sure why others have a ban on it.

I'm A Walking Melting Wax Figure!

90 lbs in 6 mos!? 110 total!? That's AWESOME!!! You should be so proud of yourself! I can tell you this, WHEN I get down 90 lbs.....I will be doing the Snoopy Happy Dance.....even if my wings are flapping. Congrats, keep up the good work! You're well on your way to accomplishing that goal you set when you started.

Thirteen Days To Go.....liquid Diet Day One

Well, I just survived day one of the 2-week liquid diet required by my surgeon for the procedure. List is 5- 8 oz. 2% (but I drink 1% or Skim) milk with Carnation Instant Breakfast no sugar added and any sugar free liquid. I can also have up to 2 cups of soup broth. Today started with a chocolate shake....drank a Starbuck's black iced tea with equal until lunch...2 chocolate shakes for lunch, and then came home a bit early (it is Friday, after all) and took a nap (I miss being a kid). Drank a Special K K20 protein water (5 grams protein) and then 2 vanilla shakes (one I mixed in sugar free caramel syrup and the other I added a couple drops of peppermint extract....YUM). All-in-all, not a bad day. I've not really had any cravings, per se. Mostly, just thoughts of the food I like, but nothing that really tempted me to want to step off the path. One day down.....thirteen to go.

My Progress Post Op Update !

You look FANTASTIC!! Apparently he didn't understand the vow "for better or worse"....so let him have the worse (being stupid enough to cheat and lose you) and you keep the better (getting the attention you deserve from better guys than him)!!! Enjoy! You're doing what's best for you....not only have you lost the weight with the sleeve so far, you've lost additional weight/baggage by letting him go. Congrats!!!!

    Sleeved Yesterday..

I think immediately after surgery, rest would be first and foremost, protein and liquids next and exercise/walking when you have the energy and feel well enough to do it. Don't push your body to do something it's not ready for. Take care of yourself....the best is yet to come! Congrats! (Mine is 2 weeks from Friday.)

    Pre Op Diet Started Today

Mine is a liquid only diet for 2 weeks, and it starts on 11/2 (the day after my b-day). The list of things I can have include 5 Carnation Instant Breakfast no sugar added w/8 oz. milk. The rest are unsweetened beverages, no sodas (obviously) and occassionally if I'm still hungry, I can add chicken broth. I'm trying to get myself ready for this, so this week it's bfst/lunch are liquid and dinner is regular. Hoping this will make that jump off the cliff on Friday that much easier and I won't suffer from the shock of no food all at once. Good luck everyone! We're doing this for the best reason.....US!

    Time Keeps On Ticking

Wow! It's been a month since I posted last. Does that tell you there's not been much going on since I got my date set for 11/16? Haven't heard a peep from the dr's office. Guess they trust me to do what they told me on 9/26. They can, but one would think they could be a little more customer inter-active. Oh well.... This past weekend, my 8-month old niece was baptised! (yeah!)....The whole side of my family was together (2 sisters and a brother...one sister (step) was missing, but no reason was given). Any..who....I had mentioned to my husband during our 3 hour drive to the ceremony, that I was considering telling my parents and siblings (well, my brother since the 2 sisters who were there already knew). He said, please don't, I have to ride home with you tomorrow. (ha) Well, we were standing in the kitchen cutting the cake and mixing the punch, and there was a lull. So I grabbed my dad by the elbow and dragged him to an empty hallway outside. I didn't want to make a scene or take away from the celebration they were having for Emma. I started off with, "Dad, I have something to tell you and I'm not asking for advice, guidance or alternatives...I'm just filling you in on what I'm planning as a courtesy so you know what's going on". He looked at me like I was talking giberish. I told him I was having wls on 11/16 and that my sister Becky was going to come up and stay with me during the process of hospital and a couple days at home before she returns to her family (or they come up for Thanksgiving, however it works out.) He was a bit shocked and then started asking all the typical questions. What kind? How does it work? How successful is it? How long will recover take? etc. Then once we were done talking (about 5 min or so) he looked at me and said "Sis, what made you think I would try to change your mind or give you advice?" REALLY? Only because you've done it every other time in my life when I've tried to talk to you about a decision I was making or wanted to make? No idea, Dad. So then, I told my step-mom (whom I've not been that close with EVER in the 32 years they've been married) and she was actually stunned and then hugged me. After I explained everything and answered he questions, she said "I'm excited if you're excited. Whatever will make you happiest is all I can hope for". Now, I want to know this....WHERE ARE MY PARENTS AND WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO THEM!? have they been abducted by aliens, injected with some syrum that makes them seem (or at least come across) as normal? When did they become so relaxed and easy going with things? This is the couple who ALWAYS knew what was best and were never bashful for sharing (or strongly suggesting) how they think we should proceed with our decisions. Today I am 3 days from my second 22 birthday. Yep, I've made it to the point where I get to celebrate 22 for the second time. Then on Friday, I start my 2 week liquid diet. And, just for good measure, as if I need ANY challenges during the liquid diet, I have a wedding to attend on 11/10 with a large reception. I made sure everyone I told on Saturday knew that I would be on a liquid diet at the wedding, so I would not be eating, so please don't make a big deal out of it. They all agreed. I never thought on 9/26 that 11/16 would get here so quickly. I'm glad it's almost here. I'm excited, anxious and nervous all rolled into one. I have started trying to teach myself the liquid diet just to get ready, so I've been doing liquids only for breakfast and lunch. Only solid foods for dinners. I'm starting to wonder, though, are the sounds/grumblings coming from my stomach from hunger, or nerves? I hope everyone who is working through the process is having great success. Chins up....our day(s) are coming!!
  22. I'm a platelet donor and my surgeon has suggested a year, unless my blood work starts showing that my platelet count is consistent and he's comfortable with me donating again so it won't interfere with my recovery. You might call your dr's office and ask what they suggest....or ask at your next appt. when they do your next blood test.

My Company Is Changing Insurance During Approval Phase. Crap!

Find out what the Dr's schedule is and see if you can get on the surgery calendar prior to the end of the year so you will still be covered by your current insurance and won't have to worry about BCBS after Jan 1. I would think that if you are already in the process, and the insurance company has your claim issued for approval and the coverage is available, then you could potentially be "grand fathered" and still covered since the approval for coverage was prior to the end of the policy coverage. Ask lots of questions, and you might even go talk to your benefits provider rep/HR in your office to see if they can help you with the process to get you covered while you're still eligible under this policy. I just heard that our company is changing the policy (not the company). After Jan 1, instead of it being covered 100% (only $10 co-pays are out of pocket during the appointments) there will be a $1,000 deductible required for the procedure in the future. Good luck! I hope you can get things figured out so you can get it covered while you're still under your current policy!!

    Worrywart

God didn't make us with 85% less stomach, but he also didn't make us to give into temptation and get ourselves to where we are today. The idea is to use those he has put in our path with the talent and ability to perform a procedure that will get us back to where God wants us. Healthy and able to avoid the temptation the devil puts in front of us so we don't abuse the beautiful body and life God was loving enough to give us in the first place. Don't give in to doubt! God put you here at this time for a reason. I feel that I'm here right now because this is where God needed me to be so I could benefit from the procedure the has helped the medical profession perfect. Years ago they would have taken my stomach, or I would have been wearing a mu-mu waiting to die from a coronary or a stroke. Now with this procedure, I get to keep my stomach, lose weight, be healthy and live a long, happy life. Good luck!!!

I asked my surgeon when I was in for my initial consultation, and he said he doesn't have a problem with caffeine. YEAH!! because I love my iced tea.
