  1. Absolutely NO regrets, but I have to say that being emotionally ready is critical to this process. The first few days after surgery, you will second-guess yourself. That's normal. The strict post-op diet--you may second-guess yourself. At first, I couldn't say, yes, I'd do it all over again. But now, six months out, minus 75 pounds with 45 to go, I know I did the right thing. Just make sure you are emotionally ready to deal with changes that have to be made. My ins company made me wait six months for clearance, and then it took a other six months for all the pre-op testing. I was mad and angry it was taking so long, but without all the time to think and prepare, I would not have been emotionally ready. Do it when you're ready and not before. At least that's my advice.
  2. Five months out and down 72 pounds. I'm thrilled that food no longer seems to have a hold over me! It is also so much easier just getting around, especially in the summer when it is so hot. I still have 48 pounds to go, but I'm already enjoying being much smaller. Best decision I ever made for myself to have the surgery.
  3. Sleeved 2/21/13 and as of today, down 72 pounds!
  4. I use Pure Protein bars (20 grams) and New Whey protein bullets (42 grams). The Sunkist protein shots are much better tasting than the New Whey, but almost three times more expensive. I just tolerate the New Whey from WalMart. Fruit Punch is the best flavor, IMO.

I agree with the other poster. Check out your center and surgeon carefully. Talk to others who have used that center and surgeon, if possible. And no matter who you choose, follow the directions precisely. There are rules for a reason.

    Been single for to long!

I know how you feel. I promised myself I would start dating when I broke the 200 pound marker. Down from 270. Well, I did that today. Now what? I feel like a 47 year old woman trying to find a prom date. Wth. I agree with the others, though. Jump on into the dating pool. That's what I'm going to do...very soon.
  8. Sleeved 2/21. Down 40 pounds including two week pre-op diet. Feeling ok since the doc took bloodwork and found my potassium levels had bottomed out. Treated with a supplement so I am back on track. I haven't felt this alive in years. Looking forward to more weight loss after a stall about week 4. Took forever, it seemed, to lose the last 5 pounds of the 40 total so far.
  9. I feel exactly the same way. Can't wait to make more progress. Down 38 lbs since surgery 2/21/13. Now I have hit a stall
  10. Sleeved 2/21. Down 36 pounds including pre-op.

    Frustrated and at a loss.

I had to get a normal gastric emptying study before surgery was approved. It took me a full week off all pain meds to make that happen and "fix" the gastroparesis. If you take medicine for pain and have been doing so for awhile, it could be causing the gastroparesis. Otherwise, I don't think you necessarily have to be off the meds to have surgery. You should definitely check with your doctor though. The med itself could be causing the problems you are facing.

    Frustrated and at a loss.

I had three gastric emptying studies prior to surgery for gastroparesis. The first two were abnormal, the third normal. What I did differently from the second to the third was get off all pain medication I had been taking for my back (prior surgery--spinal fusion). The medication itself was the culprit--Lortab caused it. Apparently, narcotic meds can make gastroparesis occur/make it worse. I had a perfect study the third time and no more Lortab. Finally, surgery was approved.
  13. I am 6 days post op as well and have had a good deal of trouble with liquids too. It has gotten easier the past couple of days. I am looking forward to getting off the liquid protein and moving toward protein shakes. I can't do that til week 2 however.

    Protein Shake

I like the pure protein shakes. 23 grams of protein and only 6 carbs.
  17. This happened to me also and the psychologist was so wrong and rude about my tearing up, I ended up changing Bariatric centers. Surgery is next Thursday. Finally. Took me a year though to get here.
