Backup Plan: Gastric Bypass
Tibbie replied to disneyteach's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Disney - I think maybe what he was trying to say is maybe if things don't look good for the sleeve for you that he would switch it to the bypass??? Things happen in surgery and I think he wants to prepare you for that. I wouldn't freak out about it. If it really is weighing (punny - I know) on you - contact the nurse or doctor and discuss it further! How is you diet going today? Sent from my iPad using VST -

So I'm really concerned about one thing. I don't cook...period! Not that I can't cook - I'm actually a very good cook - but I hate doing it. I work such long hours, as does my husband that cooking is something that is rare around our house. So how am I going to handle my meals after surgery? Not like we can bring home a sandwich from Which wich! Or a burger from Five Guys! Any ideas for those of us that refuse to cook? I realize that the first month or so not a huge deal because I will be on Clear liquids then liquids, then mushies - it's after that...that's what worries me Sent from my iPad using VST

Congrats SG! That's amazing!!!!! I'm glad to hear this because I was worried I would have to prepare a bunch of stuff or something - I really should not have bought the big beautiful convection oven/stove that I have since I just don't like to cook! LOL However, it is GREAT for baking - and I do enjoy that - but I never keep the stuff at the house - send it all to work with my husband! LOL Let them pack on the lbs!

I just wanted to share with all of you something that my bosses wife (who is a dear friend to me) said to me yesterday. I told her about the surgery - and she is sooo supportive. I told her that I have really been searching my soul as to why I eat - how I allowed myself to get to this place. There are several reasons - but I discovered one of my reasons is my work. I'm a vice president and so many times in my industry things are totally out of my control and it's so frustrating to me. I'm a control freak and because I can't control what is going on around me - I decide to control by eating. Clearly - my eating is out of control but it's not what my mind tells me. My dear sweet Tina said to me "okay - so why don't you turn that around on yourself. Instead of controlling what goes IN control what DOESN'T go in". Seriously I thought this was genius and a little light went on for me when she said this. Of course this isn't the only reason I eat. I'm into the comfort, boardom, make myself feel better, blah blah blah, all the typical reasons. But I'm breaking those down one by one so that I will be successful long term (as in rest of my life) with this battle. How about you - why don you eat? What are you doing to make changes NOW so that this surgery will be successful for you the rest ofnyour life? Sent from my iPad using VST

Everyone's insights to this is so fascinating to me. Nice to know I'm not the only one! I like the idea of doodling at my desk or something to occupy my mind and keep me from eating. I did great yesterday and so far today as well. I'm following the liquid diet that BNM sent me - and I have not strayed. I actually have good willpower - it's just when things start to stress me and start to spiral out of control that I lose my battles Sent from my iPad using VST

My surgery costs are $10500.00 includes everything except my first visit. There would be a charge for the scope and stress test - but my insurance is paying for that. I was given everything upfront in writing. Sent from my iPad using VST -

It's part of your meal! LOL Too funny! -
I had my gallbladder removed at the same time they did a total hysterectomy and removal of a bartholand gland cyst. I was out of the hospital in less than 24 hours (really don't like being in the hospital) - and back to work 3 days later. So if my VSG goes that well - I will be VERY happy. Did the same thing with emergency surgery a year ago January for a hernia that twisted my intestines! That was so much worse feeling that the gall stones! LOL - I'm not so good with the pain meds. Too much of a control freak - hate feeling "out of control" - so I'm hoping this procedure will go just as well for me as all my others. I have a pretty high threashold for pain - either that or I just don't like to admit I'm hurting! LOL
