  1. I don't know if you will be able to take a driving test. The place where that port is at really hurts and it's been 20 days since I had my surgery so I don't know if you want to be in a big hurry to get back to work. I didn't drive till last week sometime and if you turn that wheel just the right way pain sure does hit ya. Good luck with whatever you decide but I say I would postpone the driving test.

  2. Surgeons that order you be on a high Protein pre-op diet to shrink the

liver mean what they say. There are a lot of surgeon's out there who

do not order a pre-op diet. Why? It may be because the patient does

not have an elarged fatty liver, but it can mean that the surgeon's has

more experience in operating around fatty livers.

My doctor has done over 5000 operations for lap band. They don't want you to eat so that your liver isn't fatty so when they are wrapping the band around your new stomach they don't hurt your liver and it's out of the way. The bigger you are the bigger the organs are. Remember they have to go to the top of the stomach. So the liver needs to be out of the way so he can get to it.

  3. Go ahead and tell yourself to eat what you want but it is a bad decision. You will get in there to have your surgery done and your liver will be to fatty and he will just close you up and send you home and tell you when you are ready give him a call. And then your insurance might have something to say about it after that. So if you been waiting to hear from your insurance and they approved and your just eating whatever they weigh you everytime you step in there office and if your gaining they pretty much tell you to watch your eating. The doctor can refuse you at any point and time. SO I WOULD THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE STICKING IN YOUR MOUTH!!!!!

  4. Well believe me gastric isn't the answer to everything. They will stretch there stomachs back to the way it use to be. And gain even more weight than they where before. We have a small stomach and you need to watch what you eat just like every diet. You just can't eat junk and exspect to lose weight. And it will be a life long commitment for the band.

  5. Let me tell you onething this has been the best thing I have ever done in my life. Ya you will hurt a few weeks but to lose weight and keep it off I would hurt a year. It' s not that bad at all. I didn't do that great on my pre opt diet but I still lost weight and the doctor did the surgery and I not hungry all the time and the next time I go to the doctor I get my first fill and then I should be where I want to be. You have to remember that the band is loose after surgery so you will be hungry and just remember to chew your food good.

  6. I had my surgery on May30th and went back to work on June 4th I thought that was plenty of time and it was. Guess it all depends on what kind of work you do. I work at a radio station and answer phones and stuff like that. I don't lift anything heavy there are plenty of men to do that around here. Go at your pace not anybody else's. Everyone is different so if your body is telling you that you still hurt then be it.

  7. I drive 2 hours to my doctors office and I wouldn't have it any other way. I know what to exspect from him and I wouldn't just go to someone else every doctor is different. So watch yourself on visiting another doctor.

  8. I didn't have a problem with AETNA Insurance I was approved in a week and had my surgery the next. I have sleep apnea, thyroid problem, menopause, and been on a diet for 5 years before I heard of this lapband surgery. I had my surgery on May 30. I feel great and still a little swollen. Been taking it easy and watching everything I eat. I hope all turns out well for you and you get to have this done. Insurance who do they think they are. We pay so why don't they do this one thing for us. I haven't received any part of my bill yet but they pay 90% on my insurance. GOOD LUCK!!!!! Hang in there.

  9. Well I had my surgery on May 30th. Today June 4th I feel great. Trying to drink plenty of Water my mouth is pretty dry. I did fine. In a little pain but I had graduation this weekend for my niece and was pretty busy. Dr. McEwen did a great job. All the staff at the clinic where great they went and got me balloons for my birthday. They are a great bunch of people there.

  10. I have been going to more than one doctor. I have thyroid problems and just keep getting bigger and other issues. But I didn't have to go to any personal trainer I have tried everything weight watchers, curves, exercise programs and lose not one pound. Hang in there. I am the second person to get approved from AETNA to have this done at my doctors office. So Aetna must have some hard guidelines to follow to get approved. Just call the insurance and talk to them that's what I did and plus it is covered under my husbands insurance they don't pay for all of it but what they do pay helps. Just hang in there. Do what you have to do.

  11. I have my surgery on May 30. And I can't hardly wait!

Yes I am hungry but not as bad as I thought I would be. Just can't wait till next Wednesday. If you can through the first couple of days you got it licked. My biggest thing was soda and now I could care less if I even had one. Keep you posted.

  12. I have Aenta PPO and they processed my paper in a week and I am having it done on my birthday. I just called and was polite and talked to someone who handles the claims and I am getting banded on May 30 that my birthday. I just felt that I would get on them and talk to them and it would go faster and it sure did. So from my doctor sending the papers in and me calling them it will be less than 3 weeks for my surgery. So call and talk to them. It won't hurt anything and they will be on the look out for it.

  13. No that's not the only doctor in the area. But I don't think they will let you go somewhere else to go to the seminar. I am sorry if I made it sound that way but I could send you my seminar I had in my email.

https://www.my-emmi.com/startemmi?access_code=12664661787 then type in my birth date May 30 1964 you can only view this until May 20, 2007 so hurry and watch it and if they ask if you are me say yes but watch it and hurry.

  14. :clap2: I have Aetna Insurance and they have received my claims and I am approved to have it done there is just some paper work. I should here from them about 2 weeks. If they called today I would do it today. I am so excited can't wait. I love the staff over at Dr. McEwen's office.

Well all the paper work is done and I have a date for my surgery. May 30 my birthday the best birthday present I will receive this year. On the liquid diet and going stong. Can't wait. I will keep you posted.

  15. I didn't go to a seminar they sent me one by email it was called the Emmi Seminar has everything you need to know from the seminar. I have Dr. McEwen of Fishers, Indiana. You should ask about that and you can watch it over and over and if at any given time you have any questions you can type them in and it saves it for when you go to see the doctor. I thought it was great way to learn about it right in your own home. And I learned everything I needed to know. Give it a shot. Just hang in there. Don't get down and out it will soon be your turn to get it done. Hang in there.

  16. hello. i live in evansville (sw indiana). i'm just starting the official process. i've received a letter stating that my insurance covers this type of procedure. I have UHC Choice Plus. The insurance doesn't require any sort of pre-op diet that other carriers do, which is cool. i have an appointment to see one of the doctors on 6/27. i was told that i would have to see a nutritionist 5 times before i can have the surgery. i'm hoping i can have the surgery done by the end of the summer...that would be great! as for now, i'm just gonna sit back and be patient...:faint:

my stats are 5'6, 240lb, no major comorbidities as of yet. my family has a history of being overweight, diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer and other problems relating to being overweight. i'm hoping i'm approved so that i can keep those ailments at bay.

:clap2: Dr. McEwen in Fisher is where I have been going and glad that I picked him. The staff there is wonderful and so is he. Can't wait to have this done. I say about 2 weeks and I will be ready. Starting the liquid diet this Sunday May 20 I want a head start before I go.
