    Scared!!!!!!!!

Buck, There is not much I can say that hasn't already been said. Please remember that these complications are minor by comparison of other types of WLS. And some aren't technically complications but bumps in the road that we work through as life with band goes. I have to say that I had heaps more bumps in the road without my band! GO FOR IT! The band will save your life.

    Goal question?

This is interesting. I was reading someones stats who are the same as mine and her surgeon's goal is 10kg/24lbs less than mine. I am 163cm/5'4" and my surgeon's goal is 80kg. I have my goal set at 60kg/135ish. I also recall saying that I would be happy at size 14. Well I hit size 14 at 82kg! Was exstatic but still felt big because the scale was still a big number. Silly isn;t it???

    pouch size

is it possible for your pouch to get bigger? If so how can it be fixed? I know I don't have enough restriction but am AMAZED at the amount of food I eat before I feel full. Its scarey actually.:omg:

    pouch size

I have a 3cc fill at the moment. Surgeon didn't empty it because I was already gaining even though eating well and exercising at the time of becoming pregnant. I don't really have much restriction any more - I used to when I had my last fill which was more than a year ago. I can eat pretty well anything without probs. Though dry chicken and really fluffy bread still get stuck a little - but hardly ever. I usually go back for seconds now of a regular sized adult portion and very rarely feel stuffed like i used to with just my mini bowl serve. I am still not able to eat anywhere near like I could before the band. My surgeon is not worried at all. He assures me that my progress before pregnancy shows how easy it will be after baby is born. I can have a fill 6wks after the birth. Iforgot to add that I have a SAGB which is 11cc capacity I think??? TFL:)

    What did you pay

I have private health and was going for a Melbourne surgeon who would cost me $3500 out of pocket. I was guided to my wonderful surgeon in Darwin, whom is closer to me anyway, and paid a total of $900. Totally happy! A fill costs me $80 and I think I get 36 back on medicare, a check up costs me 50 and I get 17 back I think.

    Any pregnant Aussies?

Sam & Jaqui, I was banded 1 1/2 yrs ago, got down to my lowest ever weight - 78 kgs about 6 months ago. Cruisin. Then, our circumstances didn't allow for me to travel to my surgeon in Darwin when I really needed a fill, and my 12mth check, so I slowly started gaining, really slowly i might add. July found us back in a position to get to Darwin but not time off work, so the earliest I could get an appointment for a fill was the first week in October. Then I found myself pregnant so my appointment was no longer for a fill, but for a check up and information about being pregnant with the band. As I had gained about 5kg by this time my surgeon didn't feel it necessary to empty my band. Consequently I have put on 9 kg since becoming pregnant (up to 92/93kg now). I am hoping to get that under control with exercise now that I am no longer sick all day everyday from the pregnancy. My surgeon assures me that any gain is ok even though I am freaking out, and has even written a letter to the fact for me to give to my clinicians with regard to my pregnancy. For the record, I already have 3 kids! All prior to banding, #3 arriving close to 3 months before my op. I breastfed for about 18 mths with him. No drama. I was a little worried about morning sickness as I suffer terribly from it, but everything seems ok. I guess if my band had slipped from all the vomitting I would surely know it by now.

    Calling all aussies

Hi, Just wondering if we could actually do a head count of all the aussies here on this board - maybe get some meetings happening etc... I'm Jodie and I am in Western Sydney.
  11. I tried coming back here with every good intention, post my food diary etc, but after day2 I have stuffed up continually. I am officially announcing that due to stress related reasons I am addicted to carbs and have been for a few months I think. After using fitday and monitoring what I am eating I have a HUGE deficit of protein and an overabundance of carbs. I am considering doing the ATKINS induction program for a couple of weeks to get me out of this terrible phase that has sucked me in like a blackhole! AAARRRGGGHHH!!! I would love to hear peoples opions on this. Personally it has worked before , so I expect it will work again.... :cry

HELP!!! I am addicted to carbs.

Ok, I am half a day into atkins induction and doing great. Its a positive feeling taking back control. :banana I glad its not just me. Thanks for sharing everyone. Can I just let you all know that I have updated my website over the last couple of days. Pics are up! www.geocities.com/jumpineddy25 Cheers, Good luck to all!

about to be banded...and I am so scared

There is not a thing to worry about - except getting yourself healthy. As for being 2 1/2 hours away from your doc, I lived in the remotest desert in Australia when I had my band. I had to drive 8 hrs on really crappy dirt roads just to get to a supermarket, then my surgeon was another two hour flight from there. But nothing was gonna stop me getting healthy. Don't worry, you will be fine. Life is about taking risks. Take the risk and be happy or don't take the risk and be wondering for the rest of your life.... Besides, I don't know about over there in US but my surgeon has given me a card to tell emergency people about my procedure, plus I also have several copies (one for each bag/purse etc) of instructions on how to loosen the band if necessary, all this done whilst on phone to surgeon. Now, I have been banded for nearly a year now and haven't needed any of it, and I know I am not the only one.... The nerves are apart of it. Please don't worry. YOu have the support of everyone here.

HELP!!! I am addicted to carbs.

thanks everyone. Carbs do crave carbs indeed, and the 'worse' my carb choices are, the bigger is my 'need' for more. One biscuit last week has turned into a packet, plus cakes, chocs, whatever is in view when I am down the street. Its terrible. Fortunately, we don't really have much of this stuff at home. Guests brought the biscuits last week and thats why I got to have them. The worse thing is that I have figured out how to eat bread. So thats it. No unnecessary carbs for me for a week or two, till its over and done with - out of my system. :rambo
  15. Here is me at my heaviest, before op and then in Feb. Will get a recent one soon. :D Oops, middle picture should have been dated 2004 not 2005 sorry.

For lunch yesterday I had 2 fried eggs on two pieces of toast :cross-eye I had a plum and a cuppa tea for a snack Beef goulash made with snags for dinner More Yoghurt and LSA for desert.. FITDAY said it was less than this. Will put in exact amount later on...forgotten what it is right now... its 1156. protein - 60gm carbs - 137gm Should these in reality be the other way around? Exercise log book

Did some digging in the garden today, about 45 mins with shovel turning over the vegie patch.
  18. Zoe, i can totally relate to what you are saying...I am back here because my will to choose got smothered whilst living with SIL over past few months. My family are generally healthy eaters by choice - fruit and vegies have always played a major role in our meals. however, in SIL house there was limited f&V, it was NEVER served to chn unfried - hence only potato was served and always fried. Fruit was a choice not a requirement for chn. Meat was always fried or roasted with heaps of fat. All this took its toll on me. I helped to cook almost everynight, but after a month of her family refusing(all be it politely) to eat my cooking because of the vegies in it I just gave up. I fell into the trap and am now crawling out. Unfortunately, my kids were also involved, and are now expecting sweets every night (even my one year old). They are now in much healthier routines again and we have our constant supply of f&v. In fact when we were able to move into our own place the chn and hubby were given the healthiest meals I could muster, but me, craving the sweets would succumb when no one was looking. Too much chocolate, ice cream, smoothies etc at the other place. I have informed hubby of my actions and now you guys. This is the end of the sabotage!!!! :devious :devious :devious

    Food Journal Thread

I am posting my daily eats here until I get back under control, feel free to comment anytime, i wont take offence, I need constructive criticism. :Bunny Breakfast: 1 medium banana sliced 1/2 cup fat free yogurt 1 tablespoon linseed, almond, wheat germ mix (will get calories at later time today) Cheers
  20. I have just spent nearly 4 mths living with SIL who is as big as I was when I started. Secretly I think she wants it but other SIL who is even bigger turns up her nose at me. 1st SIL says I'll just see how you go - what more does she want to see?? A year ago I was the same size as her and now I am a relatively normal size. SHe has seen how I can still eat just about anything - and in fact became a problem sabotaging me, but still wants to wait and see. 2nd SIL says "how can anybody do such a thing!?!"(though hasn't said it to my face, only to plenty of others). I know she is jealous of my outcomes. I say to them both and anyone else who complains - whos better off, you or me? I have done what I needed to do to be happy, healthy and a better parent for my kids, what about you? These are the first two to have 'negative' input to my plan of action, but I am still moving forward and that is what counts.

    May walking challenge

Hi all, I am joining in here. Don't have a pedometer, but two routes that I walk are 1.8km one way and the other 2.2km one way, I will aim to do one of these (return obviously every day. Cheers Jodie
  22. Hi everyone, I was quite frequent here last year after getting my band, then for a variety of reasons haven't been back till now. THe fact of the matter is I really need support and I can't seem to get it from anywhere else like here! I am down about 30 kg in almost a year now, but I am stuck, in a rut no less. I have been extremely stressed and fell for the old relatives trying to sabotage the life plan thing. Haven't really move the scale in the past 3 months, though feel that I have enough restriction, just not eating healthily and certainly not exercising like I should. I want inspiration and support and I know that you all can give it too me, I am going to track down a challenge or seven here and get myself on track. If you see me slack off give me a swift kick! I am at my docotors goal weight, but still have another 20 kgs at least to go for my goal. Guide me please!!!! Thanks Jodie
  23. thanks heaps - thats just what I need! I have started today off well and feel heaps better about myself. Was in the habit of having a smoothie for breaky, which ended up 2. Well imagine what thats doing! Anyway swapped the smoothie for fuit, yoghurt and nut mix, consumed half as much and feel twice as full - funny that. :Bunny
