Eating will not solve your problem unless you eat the kid, but of course, that may bring on other problems. Seriously, you're doing good. This is a good exercise for helping you learn to eliminate eating as a solution to anything but real hunger. Easy for me to say....empty nester.

Best wishes for you! Pre-op was harder than post-op for me as far as hunger. My hunger was virtually gone for quite a while after surgery but not everyone is the same. Now I eat food for life, food doesn't eat away my life.

Vent away, my friend! I must say I admire your daughter for standing up for you. I would have done the same thing. I know me. I try to be nice but when someone goes after my loved ones everything goes red. You'll get through this. I am glad you have concerned family. Love hurts sometimes but it lets you know it's there. -

Caring about your appearance is not necessarily a selfish thing. You show compassion to others by sparing their eyes from hard things to look at. Walmart after midnight makes the point. -

Does your family actually think that with the amount of food you are eating that you will starve? That would only happen if you are somehow unable to absorb any nutrients. Your doctors have not indicated that that is a problem for you. You will level out. Just like when we used to eat just a little more and eventually the weight caught up with our eating, your weight will eventually settle at the reduced level you are eating now. That is my unprofessional opinion. Or is their problem aesthetics? They need to have patience until you are "done". You are a remake in progress. Hang in there, my friend. -
Great strategy! No wonder you did so well!

Glad you're getting it done! Happily, many of the things that make us look better are also good for us. For example, skin. A healthy diet with abundant hydration changes the color and consistency of skin, making one more attractive. Proper exercise and rest has a major effect on appearance. Once the foundation of healthy living is established, the cosmetics needed are much less. -
Standing ovation! Well done! Wow, one year! :) Sounds like you are ready for questions....here they come!

You're a stunner. Understand the air tossing. Good work! -
Have a good time? I don't know, free morphine kind of appeals to me. Lortab twangs my buds, too. Durned 60's coming back up like sour milk. Edit: Not free, more like lower risk of merchant induced injury and governmental incarceration.

The big closet clean

Wow, what a load of clothes! Good for you! Articles of clothing are almost like pictures that bring back memories. Maybe it is sort of a man thing but I was not ashamed of being fat, it was just so blasted annoying! My wife, however, was very concerned about how I looked and regularly verbally "helped" me adjust my shirts when they rode up exposing my big belly. When I unloaded my bags of clothing at Goodwill it was like swatting that dirty fly that was buzzing around the bedroom all night landing on my nose in 5 minutes intervals. .... times 100! -
You have to fight for it...
gmanbat replied to CoffeeGrinDR's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great post! A battle it is. Some we all have in common, some seem custom made for us. All are winnable. We can help each other find the right weapons and skill in using them but we have make them our own. Learning about war and being in war are 2 different things. War is messy, chaotic. The winners are the ones who never give up. Now we have a powerful coalition. We have the sleeve and each other. Let's win together! -
Doctor said not to worry about only losing 10lbs at first post op visit
gmanbat replied to JewelJ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Now that's a good doctor! I am thinking he knows his stuff. You are in good hands. After hearing silly things said by docs and nurses here it is nice to hear something right. Uh...not that I always know what is right.....ego ran away with me there.. -
That's not a bad loss for 12 days. I've lost slower than that in the past. Your weight loss after the sleeve will be different than before. It could be fast, slow, or anything in between. The important thing is...it is coming off. You will lose and you will win. The stalls and gains mean nothing. They are just part of the process. In the end you will lose the fat.

Whether you lose the weight fast or slow the loose skin will either tighten up or it won't over the long haul. It has to do with genetics and age more than anything else. I am now 65 and over 2 years out, lost 130 pounds and my skin is still slowly tightening. I expect it will not tighten completely thus making my midsection look like a cut-out from a romance novel cover. The alternative in my case would be very wrinkly skin in my casket 6 feet under.

How does your procedure differ from the Duodenal Switch? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duodenal_switch -
Ok, a dead person haunting another dead person. I am trying to think of a movie where something that silly was portrayed. "The Frighteners" with Michael J. Fox?. A serial killer ghost was killing people and slicing up other ghosts with a scythe. Of course, they were already dead but became another form of dead...or something. R. Lee Ermey was defending his graveyard with a machine gun until the bad ghost cut him up. Anyway, hope everything turns out ok for both of you. My mother died before I got my surgery. She was always concerned that I got enough to eat...even when I was 50-100 pounds over weight..

In our house at this time of year we do a lot of switching between heat, off, and cooling. My favorite is off.

Is that Siesta Key?I absolutely love Siesta Key!! One of my daughters sponsors has a surf shop there at the beaches are beautiful!! I visited Siesta Key even before we moved to Florida. The whitest sand possible. Doesn't burn your feet even in intense sun. Speaking of intense sun. That white sand is like a mirror. I got a horrendous burn there. Don't underestimate, folks.
