    Discomfort

I had that, especially at the beginning. I found that after a bite or swallow, if I waited a bit, the mini-burp would occur. That way the gas doesn't build up. Eating slower and more time between bites worked for me.

    I Dont Like Food Anymore

A couple years before I was sleeved I had chemotherapy for prostate cancer. One of the side effects was a temporary loss of my sense of taste. With that I lost the joy of eating but I still had a big hunger. Now I have much less hunger but I have the joy of eating. Even though it's just a few bites, I rejoice in the taste. Plus I have a healthy, slim body to fuel with the food. And.... I am alive. I like now better.
  5. You have a nice smile. There's a lot more of that in your future! :) :) :)
  6. WELCOME!! I agree about diet addiction. Like any other addiction it is an affliction that masquerades as a solution. I have been sleeved since Jan. 16, 2012. I don't think of myself as being on a diet. I eat good food in the right proportions at the right speed. I live my life without food being an obsession. Freedom.
  7. Awww...it's not that great. Just getting out of chair without making a sound like someone stepped on an inflated blow fish. Just walking up the stairs and thinking about doing it again just for fun instead of breathing like an obscene caller. Wishing you hadn't thrown away those awesome pants..that you wore 20 years ago. Walking by a mirror and stopping and walking back again for another look with a smile on your face. Going shopping for a new belt knowing that now it will actually be seen, unobscured by a belly roll. Not having to emotionally prepare yourself for bad news when you take your blood pressure. Going clothes shopping and looking at the price tag first before looking for the size.
  8. Hi JerseyGirl1979, I liked your post. My wife got the bypass, I got the sleeve 2 months after her operation. It's great to have someone with you on the journey. Niether one of us have had any major problems outside of having to buy clothes a lot.

    Gained!

I love my body and I am glad I have one but it is such a numbskull. It doesn't listen to what I tell it. I say, "I'm on a diet now, you'll be getting less calories but you won't be starving." All it hears is "blah, blah, blah,...starving". Then it says to itself, "Duh.... starving...store fat."

    Sleeven' It Up

Congratulations! Keep us posted, we're here for you. Prayers for you!
  11. Looking ahead at surgery seemed like a long journey. Looking back it seems like I was on a fast train. I was on my 6 month pre-diet, over 300 pounds, sport coat size in the mid-50's this time last year. Now I am over 100 pounds lighter and wearing a 44 long sport coat. When I tried on the coat yesterday I was expecting to not even get it on. Instead, it fit perfectly. "How'd that happen?" went through my mind. But I know how and so will you.

    No Bm

Don't I feel dumb. I should have asked my wife.

    No Bm

What does, "I took mom" mean? An emema? I believe it is normal, it happened to me and my wife as well after surgery.

    Stop The Madness, Please

    Great post! And cats rule!!
  15. I had to move mine to the middle finger. If I show people I'm married and bend down my other fingers they want to fight me for some reason.

    Trucking Along!

I feel your pain, ShannonK. My skivvies are being systematically replaced by a smaller size, they were annoying and as non-supportive as an angry bill collector. It galls me to have to throw out underwear before they have developed extra holes. Darn sleeve!

    Closing Account

I tried to delete my account and woke up with a horse head in my bed. Only it was the neighbors horse, I hate horses.
  18. Ab workouts are difficult for me at 8 months. I cannot do full push-ups because of the pain in my abdomen when I'm on my feet, I have to do them on knees. It is not a bad pain, just enough to know that I don't want to push it. It doesn't hurt when not exercising.

    Feeling Blue Today...

I had the blues periodically after the operation. It was like a break-up for me: sitting by the phone waiting for double cheeseburger to call and knowing that I couldn't answer if it did.
  20. Wow, what a rough road you have been on! Thanks for sharing that. I am so happy you are doing better and will pray that all goes well for you.
  21. Good for you, Θ.༒.Я.Ṧੂʟོཟཛvƹ͡℟!!! Too bad you took the easy way out.

    Feel Like I'm A Failure

Slow scale change does not a failure make. Losing inches and clothes falling off a success makes. Yoda in The Sleever Strikes Back Time ...give yourself. Diet and exercise program... in line are. Doomed... your fat is.
  23. We got yer back, Armywif33!!! I dumped 100 pounds, sure don't miss it. Losing it is like getting out of prison but it's more like the prison got out of me.
  24. Something I copied and pasted from the internet so you know it must be true : From the standpoint of fat loss, you want to be in a position metabolically where the liver is converting stored fat to energy. The liver has other functions, but this is one of its main jobs. Unfortunately, another of the liver’s responsibilities is to pick up the slack for the kidneys, which need a lot of Water to work properly. Actually, your kidneys need a lot more water than most people realize. If the kidneys are water-deprived, the liver has a double duty assignment. It has to do the work of the kidneys along with its own work. This double time assignment only serves to lower the actual productivity of the liver. It then can’t metabolize fat as quickly as it could when the kidneys do their job with efficiency. If you allow this to happen, not only are you being unfair to your liver, but you’re also setting yourself up to store fat because you've made the liver less efficient at turning stored body fat into energy. So, you’ve learned how vital the roles of the liver and kidneys are, but now the question becomes how much water? When examining the research, there is a paper in the Journal of the American Dietetics Association (Volume 99, number 2, pages 200-206, 1999) that discusses water requirements: “To be well hydrated, the average sedentary adult man must consume at least 2,900mL (12 cups) Fluid per day, and the average sedentary adult woman at least 2,200mL (9 cups) fluid per day, in the form of non-caffeinated, nonalcoholic beverages, Soups, and foods. Solid foods contribute approximately 1,000mL (4 cups) water, with an additional 250mL (1 cup) coming from the water of oxidation.” The paper also states that "Dehydration of as little as 2-percent loss of body weight results in impaired physiological and performance responses." To summarize, it appears that sedentary individuals require approximately 9-12 cups of water per day (4 cups come from food, 1 cup from metabolism and 4-7 cups from fluid intake). The lower numbers are for females and higher numbers for males. Personally, I like the higher numbers for both males and females alike.
