  1. The body fights like a maniac to keep weight stable, even to the point of holding water, or slowing down the metabolism. Wish my bod weren't so scrappy.
  2. Let's see. I'll attach two boxes of Thin Mints to my sagging belly, a box each of Samoas to my batwings, one box each of Tagalongs to each butt-cheek, and four boxes of Peanut Butter sandwiches to my still-rubbing-together thighs. There! Isn't THAT a delightful image? Ain't worth it, not one bit.

    Post Op B12?

My niece had a by-pass 8 years ago, and even though she has taken a sub-lingual B-12 every day, she was diagnosed with extreme anemia. It takes quite a while to become B-12 deficient, but I was deficient before my sleeve. I'm doing a weekly injection. Tomorrow, I have my 7-week follow-up. I'll ask the surgeon about the injections.

    Feeling Regret

I had a few days of "What the @$#%! was I thinking," but after the nausea died down, I pulled out of it. Tiny sips of PowerAde Zero, walk a bit, regularly, and give your stomach time to get over the shock, because that's what it is. Call the doc for a different anti-nausea and PPI. You need them. It WILL get better soon. Don't give up.
  5. I'm only 6 weeks post-op, so I don't think a comparison of diets is fair. I eat cottage cheese, Babybel Light cheese, Laughing Cow cheese, Greek yogurt, and protein drinks. Also, the occasional poached egg. If I were eating solids, I wouldn't eat the banana or the raviolis. Berries for fruit (lower sugar) and non-starchy veg. I'd eat a whole egg, because the yolk is full of good fats and iron.

    A Funny

I am 6 weeks post-op, and on mushies until I see my surgeon on February 2nd. Yesterday, there was a shocking and totally unexpected leadership shake-up at work. I was in a stupor all day. One of my friends asked me, "Would you like a Diet Dr. Pepper or a Diet Pepsi?" "I can't have soda." "Well, how about iced tea?" "I can't have caffeine, either." "Lasagna?" She was intent on trying to cheer me up. By the end of the conversation, we both had a good laugh, which helped me get through the day.

    Am I The Only One?

Phoenix, For every up-beat post on this forum, there are at least 10 lurkers who are having a hard time. You're not alone. I was so depressed after my surgery, because I had lost what I thought was my best friend: food. That's changed, and now I'm discovering new friends. But really, we all have crappy days. Rootman, I love reading your posts. You're a great person, and remind me a lot of my wonderful hubby. You rock, sir. :Banane55:
  8. I have a bunch of vintage Liz Claiborne dresses, size 14, and I'd like to be able to wear them.
  9. Lissa! I'm thankful that you have such a caring and competent surgeon. You seem like a wonderful person, and are such an encouragement to others. Glad you're healthy!
  10. The pre-op diet sucks. The liquids after suck. The full liquids suck. The mushies suck. The weight loss? Priceless. I'd do it all again to feel as good as I do now.

    Surgery Scheduled!

Doing the liquids before make the liquids after easier. Congrats on your date!

    First Event Tomorrow

    Great advice!
  13. IV fluid is saline. Salt water. We absorb it like sponges, which is what we are supposed to do. It will come off in no time. Keep to your surgeon's directions. Good luck, and welcome!

    Frustrating!

Debi, Didn't you mention once that you are 6' tall? Height plays a part in sizing. I'm only 5'7". You are to be commended for losing so much weight. Good job!

Changing From Band To Sleeve ..

I woke up without that "ping pong ball" feeling in my throat, and I never realized just how much I noticed the port. Very annoying. I had surgery right before Christmas Break, so I had almost 4 weeks to recover. I'm still battling some fatigue issues. I love my sleeve, and would do the revision all over again.
  16. On the relevance scale, being healthy outweighs surgery scars every time.

    Mindless Eating Causes Big Trouble

Mushies for me until I see the doc on Feb. 2nd. I can't imagine trying to eat pot roast right now. The slimes sound like the vomiting I did with a too-tight and slipped Band. Absolutely disgusting, and I did it about 2 - 3 times a week. No slimes with the sleeve yet, and I hope I never have them.

    The nausea sucks. :banghead:
  22. I can't answer this one, but I'm responding so that I get the info, too. Hope things calm down for you.

    Post-Op Vitamins & Weight Loss

The part of the stomach that makes intrinsic factor, which allows us to absorb vitamin B-12 from food, is the part removed doing the sleeve. The part of the stomach that allows us to absorb calcium is greatly reduced. On top of that, we are eating much less food, so we are getting fewer nutrients from what little we eat. The vitamins aren't for weight loss; they are for life!
