    How do I tell people?

I know alot of people frown upon what I did but I chose to only tell my immediate family and best friend. As far as I was concerned everyone else wasnt close enough for it to be there business. Telling my family and friends was extra difficult because I chose to get sleeved in Mexico, but I just came right out and told them about the surgery, why I wanted and needed it and why I was going to mexico for it. I found that as long as I let people know how much of an informed decision it was they were behind me. They were scared, but behind me.

    Drain?

The drain was my biggest fear. I thought it would kill when it came out, but to be honest I barely even felt it coming out. It is absolutely necessary to have a drain. It is an integral way to check and see if you have a leak. My doctor had us consume a concentrated blue dye drink. If blue showed up in the drain bag it showed there was a problem. Mine was in for i think 2 days.

Really just be happy for me ??

I am sorry to hear that. This is the exact reason I only told family and my best friend. I didnt want people to think that I didnt work just as hard to lose weight as those who didnt have surgery. I hate that it has come to people thinking surgery is the easy weight out. We all know if we really wanted to do nothing we could stay fat with the sleeve, but we all work to lose. Sorry to vent.

When does the love part happen?

For me, it was a hate relationship for the first 2.5 weeks (I had pnuemonia and was diagnosed with pancreatitis) then once I was feeling better it turned to a neutral realtionship, and at about week 4 I started to love my sleeve. I love that I am not craving alot of things like I used to. I also am finding it super empowering to be able to refuse foods that are no good while others around me eat them. Give it time and you will feel the love
  10. You are doing awesome! I am 6 weeks post op today. So far I have lost 29 lbs. Which is around 25% of my excess weight. Keep up the great work! Just keep doing what your doing
  11. I suggest you buy a couple MusclePharm MuscleGel packs. They are a bit over 1 oz and contain 20g of Protein, this way you still are getting protein on the plane. Also when I flew they had a greek chicken salad. If your allowed (I was at 1 month out) eat the chicken, if you have room left have a few bites of salad. Just do everything you can to ensure you are getting your protein in. Have fun in hawaii!
  12. My issue isnt the exact same as yours but prior to surgery I had no issues with my pancreas. 4 days post surgery I was hospitalized for pneumonia and pancreatis. I was shocked and definately surprised to have pancreatis. They said my lipids were really high. I have been back for some further testing last week and they did say my lipids were starting to go down, so that is good. I honestly wasnt aware that you could develop pancreatis or issue livers post sleeve but that has changed. Still dont know why it happened though. Best of luck to you, I hope your numbers keep going down.
  13. Thanks guys! To be honest I did have to walk away when she did the pants thing because I didnt want to laugh in front of her. I am prepared to recieve alot more jealousy especially when I surpass her weight, but I figure by then I will have mastered ignoring it.

    Pay it forward

Thanks for sharing. My closest family members and friends are all considered "obese" I am still, but my sleeve has helped me lose 27 lbs in 6 weeks. I was always treated horribly being overweight and I know I will never act any different to the people around me whether I am skinny or not. I will always show compassion and caring to those who suffer from obesity because I know what it is like to be mistreated

    My thanksgiving day rant

I feel for you. I was still on mushies at thanksgiving this year and my family decided since I couldn't enjoy any part of the dinner, that they wouldn't through a thanksgiving dinner. Christmas is where I am going to have a similar situation to you. We get our extended family together then and I have two cousins and an aunt that can pack it back and I will have next to nothing, honestly though that thought doesnt bother me. I am happy to eat so little, but it is so frustrating when people can eat alot of anything they want and dont gain any weight. My husband is like that, so its a daily thing for me.

    100lbs lost & now pregnant!

Congratulations! I am hoping that in a year, after getting to my goal I will be able to finally get pregnant.
  17. Hey guys, I have been unable to meet my entire Protein requirements since surgery, as I have been unable to tolerate Protein drinks. That being said, I know I will be experiencing hair loss, but I always heard it was around month 3. I have noticed that my hair is seeming a little thin at the front. Hasz anyone begun losing hair 5 weeks post op?
  18. I just had to post, I have caught myself recently looking at how I used to eat from this side and it is shocking. Here are a couple examples... - My sister who lives with me eats alot of fast food, and I have been trying to help her stop eating it, or atleast eat in moderation. I then realized my sister eats exactly how I used to, and now that I am being healthy and looking in at it, I am honestly just dumb founded that I could have ever eaten, not only how much I did but what I was eating. - I was so excited when I could finally eat eggs. I made 1 scrambled egg and I could not even eat half of the egg... I used to eat 2 eggs, bacon and toast with jam. - My sister asked me if I wanted to go with her to Taco Bell now that I have no diet restrictions, and without hesitation I said no thank you. No thank you, seriously I would have been in the car 3 seconds after she mentioned it before surgery. Don't get me wrong I am not saying I havent thought, mmm a cheeseburger would be nice, but I havent actually seriously considered eating fast food. What were your realizations or experiences that made you go wow, things have changed?
  19. Rev, I can relate! The one thing I let myself have was spicy crab sushi, but I ordered it as a hand roll, without rice and without avacado. I then just ate the spicy crab, not the seaweed. It only cost like $3. I was used to spending like $20 for sushi and getting spicy crab pizza, dynamite sushi and a spring roll. Or the times that I would get the all you can eat, boy its embarrassing to think about.
  20. I am still early in my lifestyle change, I do plan on eventually eating fast food every once in a while, but I am holding off until My bday (allowing myself a cheat meal) and then once I am maintaining my weight or getting close to my goal.
  21. Wow, congrats! You look great in these pictures. I made my goal weight higher than what I could have, honestly just because I have no idea what I will look like at that weight. I am going to reassess then. Best of luck to you.
  22. HI, I was put on pneumonia pills 5 days post op, and they were impossible to take crushed, soooooo nasty. My surgeon had me cut the pills into quarters for a few days, I then was able to take the pills whole at about 2 weeks post op. Do not know about peppermint, but I was having sugar free dentyne fire gum and that didnt aggravate my sleeve at all.

    Self-Pay VSG

I truly wish I could help you and definately feel some sympathy towards you. I was a self pay but I live in Ontario so my health care is insured. I honestly dont know what I would have done in your situation. I wish you the best of luck, some of the advice on here is really good advice as well.
  25. Hey guys, been having tons of sleeve problems, but just trying to figure out if I am making myself sick by eating too much... How much were you guys eating at the stage I am in? What exactly does it feel like when you overeat? Has anyone had a very quick pain (maybe 5 seconds) as if something is stuck even when you have chewed very thoroughly?
