  1. I don't know what my calorie intake is, but it's not enough for the type of work out im doing...I thought about the carb things, but you need carbs for the energy. It almost seems like I am working out too much for someone with a band and yet all you hear is workout more more more to lose lose lose...UGGG

    Thanks for the tips!

  2. HI guys, it's been a while since i posted anything, but need some feedback.

Background first...banded in 2007, had a fill here and there, dropped total of 80 lbs...realized was too tight (for too long) got an adjustment and gained 40lbs within 2 months. (all this happened end of 2011/start of 2012. Wasn't working out or anything. Then decided in July of 2012 that I am going to drop the weight without a fill and get working out and discovered boxing...I got hooked right away and for the first time in my life I work out (since then and continue to) 4-5 days a week at last an hour a day and it is not just boxing, we do strength and conditioning too. (NOT kickboxing-actuall boxing) even doing lessons and skill based stuff...HOOKED I tell ya. (had to get a mouth gaurd)

Well, my point...didn't lose a single pound...in Novemeber of 2012 got frustrated, went back to doc for a small fill...still NOTHING. I am stronger, healthier and have more energy thats for sure, but as for the pounds nothing. My PCP says I screwed up my metabolism, so no matter how much or how little or what I am eating, I can't drop the pounds. These are intense high energy workouts, and my coach things I am not eating enough because I do get dizzy every now and then. However, I can only eat so much and I try to suppliment with Protein shakes and bars, but that doesn't always happen.

My question to anyone out there, is; 1) how do I get my metablism back and 2) how do I drop the pounds?

I am seamingly doing everything right...

Hope someone can help with my dilema..looking forward to your thoughts.

    Thanks,

    Lana

  3. Hey all, my anniversary is May 10...I like it when the emails start coming in from here...

I have been struggling with going up and down with 20 lbs since November, i got a sick and couldn't get back into the swing...before that i was holding steady for a while. I had a very tight fill that caused me lots of reflux and had a few almost pass out spells. it was getting uncomfortable so i finally went to the doc he did a floro and said i was way too tight, lossened it up and now I can't stop eating...LOL...i have gained weight, but at least I don't feel sick all the time. So I ordered an ellipitical and have come to the conclusion no amount of band action is going to help me lose any more weight, it has done its initial job and now I have to do the rest with the band assisting in my food amounts. So i have to excersize in order to lose more weight, and although I have lost 80lbs since surgery, i want to loss another 50-60. So wish me luck...my goal is 1 hour a day 5-6 days a week...

Otherwise, good luck everyone and remember, out health is the most important thing, not the weight!!! Good to hear from everyone!

Okay, I think I will post...the pic of me in black is from my 30th b-day in Feb. 2007. I had surgery May 10th, 2007. The rest of the pics are face progresses...The last one of me in red coming out of a shower...lol ...is from this past Monday. I am only down 60ish lbs or so...slow but going in the right direction.

  5. Hi NimbleBean,

I too was banded in May 2007. I have lost a total of 83 pounds since then and still have another 50ish to go. the first 2 years was strictly the band working with minimal working out and low fat foods. Then i plateaued and didn't lose any weight for a while. I decided to start a workout program and in 3 months lost another 20 lbs, which was back in sept 2010. Got busy stopped working out and now holding steady with that total of 83 lbs. Why am i saying this to you? Because you can do it, with or with out the band...WORKOUT!!! that's the secret...no matter how much tighter the band gets, i am not going to get any smaller or healthy without the workout. Good Luck and you will make the right decision for you...we are all here to help, support and listen.

PS-how did you know the band slipped?

    Lana :)

Hello to all my May 2007 Friends,

Been a long and difficult road for me. My weight loss has been abysmal; I am about the same weight as when I had the surgery. I had lost a lot of weight in the months preceding the lap band, so at least I haven't gained anything back, and I believe the band is to be credited for that. My disappointment in myself is so great that I haven't wanted to face any of you - although I knew there was support here. I have also completely avoided seeing the doc for over two years. I know! I know!

Then, this weekend, my band slipped and I am now forced to deal with my issues. I will be having a discussion with my surgeon on Thursday. Not sure if I want to try the band again, have it removed or go with bypass (my insurance won't pay for the sleeve).

I will be in touch later in the week - really I will - to let you know where I'm going. Please send me your positive energy. I need it now.

    Hugs to all,

    NimbleBean

  6. Hey there!

Anyone know of a good, NOT TOO EXPENSIVE (i know that will be a tough one) personal trainer in the naperville/aurora area of Illinois? I have already lost 89lbs but its slow going because i excersize on and off...part of my excuses were because i work FT and had school part time, but now I graduate in June (have one more paper to write) and have no more excuses...so i am looking for someone to help motivate me and keep me on track and hold me accountable...Any names???

    Thanks a bunch!

    Lana

  7. I love sushi, i am one year out and can't eat it, I tried it right after banding and thought i was fine, took it slow, small pieces and everything...didn't sit well...then i realized after a few months, that rice is not my friend...I have no probs with sashimi, but no can do cuz of the rice, but totally worth missing out on sushi to be thinner...good luck to you!

  8. hello, I have been on orth-try cyclen regular (generic version called tri-nessa is what i actually take) for over 5 years. I stopped it before my surgery and then started it again 2 months after...i didn't have any problems with it. But the reason i go with the generic is because it makes me less nauseous then the actual stuff. But my OBGYN and surgery doc find it strange, since they are the same chemicals...but that is just the fact. So i would try the regular stuff see how you feel then maybe try the generic stuff and compare the two...That is my experience, i hope that helps...

    Have a nice holiday....

  9. Hello,

I too have been having a lot of shoulder pain, almost daily since surgery. I asked my doc about it last night and he asked if i had other symptoms, i said no, so he suggested we could take look under florospocy, but i said i will wait it out...but yeah, it comes and goes with no rhyme or reason, although mostly when i am hungery...It is annoying!!!!

  10. HI everyone! I just wanted to come on and say HI! I was banded on 05/10/07 and have been feeling like i haven't been doing as well as i should...i was at the doc today and got a .50 fill...because i only lost 3 lbs in 2 months. Although i have every excuse in the book for why i can't seem to get my ass in the gym...My b-day is coming up in Feb. and I really wanted to be a lot smaller then what i am now, only down 46 lbs total...I don't know why i am telling you all this, other then i think i need someone who is going thru the same as me to tell me what i need to hear. Anyway, we are all the best! everyone on this site seems like good peeps! Happy Holidays!

  11. Cindy,

Thats cool that we were going thru this at the same time. I was just at the doc and I am down another 4.7lbs in a month, but I am like you, i need to drink way more Water and get a lot more Protein, I got scolded! :)~ He also yelled at me for still smoking...but what are ya gonna do...Thanks for the support, you are doing great too...

    Lana

  12. Hey there! I got banded on 05/10/07 and had a fill about a month ago. He only put in 1cc and between now and then, i actually feel like I ate more then before and don't feel like i lost anything at all. I have an appointment later today for my 3 month eval. and he said possibly another fill, which i think i will beg him for, but i have only lost like 30 lbs or so...is that bad? i really feel like i need to lose more, i am sick of being stuck at this non-significant weight lose...Oh well, only time will tell, right? Anyway...just thought i would get other peoples thoughts on this one...

    Later...:)

  13. I had my surgery on 05/10 and my doc also has me on heprin for 10 days. I asked if i can stop they told me no. I also have bruises and am running out of places to inject the stuff and what was once a painful necessary task is now turning to be very sore and hard to stick myself. My mom who had the same doc, stopped doing them on her second week of them and was fine. I guess you either have to decide better safe then sorry?

But I am glad to hear that i am not the only one experienceing these stupid things...LOL

  14. yes, i had a memebership to this gym prior to moving somewhere that had a nice fitness area for me...it is a nice gym and they are non judgmental. Great price and great equipment as well as 24 hours open...good luck!

  15. HI, I am not sure about the fills question, but I am in Illinois and am using Dr. Rosen, also in Downers Grove. His office is called LifeWeigh Bariatrics. My mom also used him...He is very nice and so is everyone in his office. They even have a kinda "celebrity" working with them...lol. My surgery is on the 10th of this month...getting nervous...Good luck on choosing the right doc.

  16. Hi, I am scheduled for surgery on the 10th and i am coughing a lot, have chest pain and am stuffy and mucasy...i plan to call my doc in the morning to let him know, but i am wondering if there is anyone out there that got sick before their surgery and had to get it postponded or did they give you quick meds? Cuz i requested time off of work and have been on the pre-op diet since tuesday...i am worried that they will cancel it or something...maybe it will go away by thursday...:(

  17. I don't know how i am going to do it, especially at work. Everyone is always ordering out... BUt good for you for sticken to your plan...makes me wonder why we can't stick to a plan when their isn't surgery to motivate. Why can't just being healthy be the motivation. Obviously these are answers that i don't have and have not been able to lose weight any other way and god knows i have tried...oh, by the way, are you not allowed to drink broths? My doc, is letting me drink broth with the protien added to it as well as the shakes and anything else that is liquid that i can add the powder to.:D
