  1. Excited? Nervous, that's what I am at the moment! I keep thinking about my Mum's friend... she had complications and was unconscious and having machines breathing for her for over a week. But then she had a gastric bypass, not a lapband, and was over 300kgs. He's a good guy. He's one of the ones who forced a changed the speed of the public lapbands, so I'm only getting it at this speed because of him. (I'm a public waiting list person and was told to expect yeaaaars.) Course... it might get knocked back because it IS public... but the exciting part is that I've reached that end of the waiting list! :girl_hug: I've been waiting since I was 17. o.o I'll stop rambling. Very very happy here.
  2. I found out when I'm getting banded! (Finally. XD) It's July 12th, meaning I had a grand total of five days notice before the four weeks of optifast. It's funny too, I competely forgot about the letter because I thought it was just a routine 'you have this appointment with this doctor' and didn't open it till half an hour ago.
  3. I looked up Aussie lapbanders and went there first, but at least I found this forum! Better late than never. I've been trying to get a lapband since my doctor told me about it when I was 16. It was young, yea, but I was already 120kgs at that point... anyway, we did all the rituals you have to do and thought that I was on the waiting list. I was about 17 when that happened, and because the public waiting list at the time was 5-8 years long, we weren't so worried about age. I found out last year that I wasn't on the waiting list at all so I got myself put on it again, met a new surgern, and now I am on the waiting list. Plus it looks like the waiting list times have changed because the estimate is before the end of the year for me. I weight around 163kgs at the moment. It's not the heaviest I've ever been, last year I was 167kgs. And earlier this year I was 151kgs. So... I'm just see-sawing around on the spot while I wait! And I figured that I should probably get into research and talk to people a bit more, seeng as the surgery is about six years earlier than I expected it to be. My sister had the band... but I think she abused it a bit and it slipped. So I'm not sure if she's had it removed or if she's just had it adjusted. And my Dad's partner has the band, but she has a bit of trouble with it. Apparently she vomits after most meals? She told me that she had no choice in it, they put it in her without her agreement for some reason and she had to pay for it? I'm not sure how the legal system works but I hope that isn't possible. But at least it means I have two living lessons in what not to do. ;D Pfew. :faint: So here I am. XD Weight and battling the system aside, I'm a 21-year-old student in Victoria, Australia, I'm studying to become a writer and maybe get into the publishing/editing industry. And I love to do artwork, and read, I love all kinds of music. And sciance! I also like politics but it was never something I wanted to do- you can't make a difference in politics. And um, yea. o.o I'm just ranting away here. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be saying. But hi! Hopefully I'll soon join the ranks of the amazing shrinking banders!

    Aussie Roll Call

I tried low carb, not much fun! Not very effective either... not when it wears you out like that, and you're already tired all the time. It was very scary though. o.o And I saw on Dr. Phil today something about yo-yo dieters and fad diets. Your risk of heart problems goes up by 70%! o.o And on top of that, a woman was on there... she'd lost a lot of weight. And her skin had sagged, and she hadn't done anything about it for three years.

I'm in Victoria. I couldn't afford private... so yea, it was either public or nothing. Hi Angela!

They said as early as August but I'm not holding my breath on that one, public waiting list and all... but hopefully no longer than a year.

Anyone flown in a plane lately?

I've flown recently, and I'm a big girl! (163kgs) But I got a window seat so I could cuddle into the wall, it was only a two hour flight, and the hostesses were always so good to me. They didn't even have to ask, they just brought me a seat belt extention and didn't ignore me when I asked for something. (Or get that look when I tried to get a diet softdrink, like I've gotten before at othe places.) And I guess I was lucky because the people I were sitting next to up and back were good too. On the way back, the couple had a baby so I think they were as nervous about offending me as I was of offending them. But if you feel it'd be better, do get two seats! It was a bit squishy for me, my tray table didn't sit flat and two seats would have been wonderful. I could have used those tables. lol

Rava, maybe you should draw a circle around the port and see if it moves from that circle. Just my idea!

    Aussie Roll Call

Hi, I'm Sara. I've been trying to get banded since I was around 16-17, I was around 125kgs then, and I was told that I was on the waiting list. But when I was twenty, I found out I wasn't on the waiting list and I'd been waiting all that time for nothing! The process only really got started last year after my doctors got me to see a surgen. So I'm now on the waiting list, I weighed 163kgs yesterday so I'm assuming I'm still that, and I got told yesterday that my surgery was downgraded to catagery 3 but the surgern has pushed surgeries to twice a fortnight and that I might have mine done before the end of the year. So yes! I didn't bother joining a community before because I was told five to six YEARS. If I was lucky! But if they're right, it might be a good idea to get prepared early. :nervous
