  1. Richard Simmons.. LOL! So how are you doing today? Are you having any food funerals? When my husband got his lap band we went around to his favorite restaurants and he had "last meals". I can't really think of anything I want to say good bye to except maybe chocolate covered almonds.

Need a sleeve sister! I'm going to see Dr. Kelly on 7/13 and would love to know if anyone out there will be there the same week!

    Peanutbutter balls

I'm going to try this! My mom used to make something called "Protein Balls" that were 1 cup peanut butter, 1 cup honey, 1 cup oats, 1 cup protein powder, 1/2 cup wheat germ, 1/2 cup sesame seeds. Then she would roll them into little balls and then in coconut. Yum! You can also substitute almond butter and make it healthier.

    Not telling family about surgery?

Congratulations for losing weight! People find it so easy to judge but until you have walked around for years with a bunch of extra weight, trying everything else to get if off.. they don't have a right to judge. I will be thrilled in a one piece swim suit but curious, what are the scars like? My husband had six little scars after lap band but they are pretty much invisible now... 4 years later.

Sleeve sisters !!! Why go to Mexico alone... ???

Hi GA Girl... I'm going to have surgery with Dr. Kelly on 7/13. I might have to go alone unless I figure out what to do with my young son between now and then. Let me know when you get scheduled. If you end up going after me I'll tell you how it was but would love to have you there at the same time!
  7. Hi there! I wish I had done this in my early 30's because I just think of all the time spent wasted worrying about all the things I do being heavy. I'm 40 now and not wasting one more day! I'm scheduled to have my VST on 7/13/2011. Just wanted to say hello! I'm looking for a few people to commisserate with during pre op and celebrate with post op! Best of luck to you!

    Pre-Op liquid diet

You must have the best girlfriends that they would do this with you for a week! Wow! I"ll be doing the liquid diet for a week too. I start on 7/6 so I'll look forward to posting with you during that week! In my head I keep telling myself that I'll be just fine once I get thru the pre/op and surgery and come home. I'm no good with people poking at me in the hospital but once I'm free to just recover I do so fairly well. At least that has been the case with my past (non WLS related) surgeries. Let's try to focus on how sticking to the pre-op diet is just going to make us lose weight faster and recover quicker. I can't believe how many people I've seen on here that have lost 30lbs or so in 4-6 weeks! I hope I'm that lucky!!!
  9. Love your "about me".. can totally identify!

  10. Tell me about it! I told my husband he was coming with me but now that I realize I will be there for like 5 nights he may have to stay back and take care of our 5 year old. I'm bound and determined to do this whatever it takes because I feel like I've tried everything else and I'm so ready to lose the weight.

  11. Hi KellyL.. thanks for friending me! I'm glad to meet someone that is also going to Dr. Kelly. I am scheduled for 7/13 and am so excited! However, I am having trouble figuring out what to do with my 5 year old so I'm realizing my husband may not be able to go with me! Did you stay at Florence Hospital? Any advice?

    Hello!

Hi Everyone, Thank you for all your posts and comments on this forum, it has been very educational to read about everyone's experiences! I am scheduled for the gastric sleeve surgery in July 2011 and I am so excited! I have tried everything to lose weight for the past 15+ years and it's like my body is totally fighting me so I'm looking forward to this new tool. My husband had the lapband in 2007 and has lost over 100lbs and is still looking and doing great. I can't wait to join him on this journery except I'll be getting the sleeve. I'm trying to decide between Dr. Kelly and Dr. Mario Almanza so any additional info or comments on that would be helpful. Plus any tips on what to bring or plan for pre/post op would be great!
  13. Hi there.. sorry just got your message that you are having it in Dallas. So you start your pre-op diet on 7/7? Yes.. insurance will not pay for me.. first because my bmi was 39 and then went to 40 and they changed their rules and wouldn't pay for it at all. Whatever! Anyway.. it's about 16-20k in the states and only $5500 in Mexico so yes... I am going to be a medical tourist!

  14. Yay! So when are you having your procedure or did you already? I'm scheduled for 7/13 and can hardly wait! Of course my excitement is to get to the other side.. not this pre op stuff. LOL!

Where are you / did you have it done?

One month to go, July 19th

Hi there... I'm having my done on 7/13 provided I get my passport in time ! I am so excited I can hardly focus on anything else! But, I am a little worried too and I think that is natural before having any type of surgery. I've had a few abdominal surgeries for other things (not WLS related) and my experience is that if I can just get on the other side of surgery then the stress goes away. Even though there are after affects like tenderness and a restricted eating plan they are small challenges and much easier to deal with once you experience the relief of having surgery behind you. Hugging your children is never a bad thing because WLS journey aside we never know how much time anyone has on earth. I just keep telling my son, I'm going to be such a better mommy!
  16. That is funny.. what a great way to explain your job! I'm still learning how to use this message board so apologize if this info is somewhere and I'm not seeing it but when did you get your sleeve? How is it going for you so far?

    Not telling family about surgery?

33lbs in just 3 weeks??? Wow! That is fantastic! How are you doing with the post op diet? I'm just discussing with my husband that I'm not supposed to eat for 3 days prior surgery and then the post op plan and it seems it will be 1 month without solid food! I too have the mental hunger problem, would love to hear how the sleeve has helped with that or if you are doing something else that is. Keep posting.. would love to follow your progress. I'm scheduled for mid July.
  18. Hi there.. love that you did the bike ride! Now I have to ask about your occupation comment.. training people on how to give away money? Do tell!

    Not telling family about surgery?

My husband had a lap band in 2007 and it took about 2 years but he lost about 100lbs. Then we waited another year before we told anyone and still his parents do not know. He didn't want the nay sayers and of course there have been a few .. "he could still gain it back" comments. He hasn't gained any of it back or regretted his decision. I am about to get the sleeve next month and am going to try like heck not to tell anyone but it's really hard not to share what is going on in your life with family and friends. I figure I will tell them after I lose the weight.
  22. alex..still trying to figure this board out and how to use it

  23. Ooh.. that is good news! A few months after I had my hysterectomy my husband brought up the idea of us getting lap bands and I said .. you first! Mostly because I was not ready to endure any more surgery that soon after the hysterectomy and a c-section just 18months before. However, it has been with very mixed emotions I have watched him lose over 100lbs since his lap band was put in. I'm very happy for him but since the economy issues and the refusal of my insurance company to pay for my surgery I have not been able to follow him to his new thin and happy world. I am so excited there is an opportunity to do it less expensively and I'm just searching for the right surgeon so I can book my appt and get started!
  24. Thanks for the reply! I would love to have Trish's phone number so I can get the scoop on working with Dr. Kelly. I am so excited reading everyone's posts, I can hardly wait!

  25. Hi there, I'm a former mn girl now living in AZ and it was so encouraging to read about your success! I am trying to select a surgeon in TJ so I can get scheduled. Also trying to decide between the sleeve and the plication? Any comments on which?
