    Grr. Email etiquette.

By the time someone is in college I'm not sure about you teaching them proper email etiquette. I might however say something at the beginning of the semester about it, like "since we are all adults here, I expect to receive emails in a professional tone, with proper email etiquette, and I wont answer them otherwise" and leave it at that, and then follow through. When bitched at for not answering, you can always say "Oh, I'm sorry, I thought an email with "hi" in the subject and 2 lines with no punctuation in the body was sure to be spam. Perhaps you should have put more thought into it". I too get amazed by the emails I get from some of the people I WORK with. We're a technology company, so email is just kind of another part of what we do and people still don't get it. I would think, if nothing else, that the emails that you receive on a daily basis would be some kind of clue as to what you should send!
  2. You might repost this in the General Lap Band support forum. I know there are people on this forum who've dealt with cancer (not sure how many post band), but if they aren't having any complications, they might not see your post here to be able to help you.

can band slip and correct itself weekly?

I think the cycle you are having is more like this: you eat something that gets stuck and you throw up. Your stomach swells and that makes every subsequent meal more difficult, until you are on liquids for a few days and it has a chance to mellow out. You might also talk to your doctor about the possibility of a hiatal hernia (that would be in the area near your band). I've heard of those causing trouble before too. To answer your question directly, I have not heard of a band slipping and unslipping multiple times that quickly.

    Should I have a goal?

I don't know that you need a set final goal, but you should have some mini goals... as example, 2 sizes down from where you are, or 5 BMI points, or something like that. Have little goals as far as you think you'll go. Mini goals help me from going crazy sometimes.

    when are you "skinny"

I think it rather scares people when fat people become normal or thin. It's like... because you were able to do it, they are somehow going to be required to do something equally grand... or something... so it scares them. Have someone take some pictures of you, and look at those and see what you think. Pictures work better for me than mirrors.

    How slow is too slow?

"Average" is supposed to be 1 to 2 lbs per month, so it seems that you are doing perfectly. Congratulations!
  7. WasaBB, thanks for sharing about your complications. I believe that GeezerSue had something similar with motility, and that was part of why she switched to DS.. so I'd heard about that part before... not sure about the voice part tho, that sounds rather odd. I hope it's not permanent! David, I would still really like to see some form of posting of the whole story, with something of a time line to follow. Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see how long you'd had your band before complications or how long you've been dealing with the complications you have. I am banded, and would like to see everything I can. As new complications arise, I'd like to know what they are so that I am aware. In my opinion, it would be rather silly to only be aware of slippage and erosion just because those were the only 'common' complications at the time of my banding. If you post it in a blog somewhere, I'd very much at least like a PM with a link so I can read it.

    Rant:Expedia Sucks!

I never book through any of those services. I'll use them to search out the cheapest fairs sometimes, but once I know who is the cheapest, I just go get the tickets directly. The tickets are often the same price directly from the carrier, minus the booking fees, and then you can deal with the airline directly if there is an issue.

    Some people, I swear...

Man, he's so angry. I just responded to a post where he basically yells at everyone for daring to pass judgment before hearing the whole story. Well, it's his own damn fault for not telling the whole story!
  10. I'm generally not a snippy argumentative person, but now you are getting angry, and while some of the comments are less than kind, you really brought this upon yourself. You are bitching at people who are 'passing judgment without the whole story' but YOU are the one who keeps insisting that you can't tell us the whole story. If you first (2nd, 3rd, 5th) post had been more like "here's the details of what I can give you. As I'm sure many of you can understand, since I am pursuing this legally there are things I can't divulge." You would have gotten WAY more understanding. As for bashing on us as if we are trying to defend out decisions to have bands by denying the trouble you are having, we have an entire complications forum, AND a forum for people who've had to have their bands removed. I am seeing someone today regarding an issue I might be having, and I've made a point to not freak out about it because I SIGNED UP FOR THE RISK WHEN I HAD THE SURGERY. It blows, don't get me wrong, and I'm not 'looking forward' to the possibility of more surgery, but I was confident in my choice, and I am determined to work with the hand that I have been dealt. From what I can tell, it seems that you got a port infection and you were more determined to 'make' your doctor fix something than to actually get it fixed. If you look at the complications forum, you'll see many port infections and I'd be quite surprised to find out that ANY of them were fixed without charge. I am interested in hearing the rest of your story, when ever you 'have time' or feel like telling it to us.

    Polygamy Sects

I was talking with my DH about this the other night. His family is predominantly Mormon, and so he knows a little about the background of the Fundamentalist Church of the Latter Day Saints (I believe it is). The way he explains it is that polygamy was made illegal here (the US), and the Mormon church basically says that you are supposed to follow the "law of the land" so therefore it was no longer allowed by the rules of the church either. The person that originally started this fundamentalist group thought that it was his 'right' to have multiple wives and so he no longer agreed with the main church group and started his own group with his own interpretations. Since this issue isn't only polygamy, which is already illegal, and probably should have been addressed before, but ALSO includes the child/sexual abuse, I think absolutely the law enforcement should have stepped in.

    Um, yeah. Taxes.

OMG, seeing your thread reminded me that I hadn't e-filed mine yet and I just did it. bad bad bad. I intended to do it weeks ago, sigh.

Very Important! Please Read! My life is in your hands!

Texting, talking, reading, eating, putting on make up, even turning around to look at your kids, all are dangerous to yourself, your passengers and everyone else around you on the road. There have been studies that say that talking on your phone (even with a hands free set) can be as influencing as driving after drinking alcohol. I've seen this proven, and yet it's still legal (or severely unenforced?).

    The Great Flood

Man, I hope those fruits were tasty if someone had to eat them for 900 years. lol
  15. I think I've heard of things like this before and the thing I always see is that you should wait to get the letter from your insurance regarding whether the procedure was approved and not trust what the doctors office says for reasons like this. I hope the doctors office gives you good news today!

    Suturing the Stomach

I can't recall the name of the technique, maybe someone else will, but if someone does, you'll be able to google for it and it should make more sense... it MIGHT be 'fars placida', but if that's it, I probably spelled it wrong. Basically, on one side only, they put a few sutures in the stomach to attach it to itself around the band. It's not quite as invasive as it sounds.

    Is it just a coincidence?

Honestly, I think there might be extra stuff going around this year. I usually get one bad cold during the winter season, MAYBE 2, and I've had 4 of them since November. *shrug*

Parents - Where are your kids?

I LOVE the little leash backpack things. I think they are brilliant. I don't have kids, but many other people's kids bug the crap out of me. The one I love is "I just don't understand why they wont listen to me/why they are so out of control". The answer is so obvious, but they can't possibly take responsibility for it. I have a niece and a nephew that are both 1, and I just hope my sisters raise them to have plenty of personal accountability.
  19. It depends on the reasoning. My mom told me the other day that she would vote for Obama if he was the nominee, but she'd vote for McCain if Hillary was the nominee. It has nothing to do with race or gender, it has to do with her believing that Hillary is the absolute worst option of the 3. Someone who supports Hillary might believe that of Obama, and so might vote for McCain because Obama is the nominee. I think that makes a certain amount of sense. They believe they are choosing the lesser evil of the options left available to them.
  20. I think snuffy makes some good points, but at the same time, what is projected in the media as a 'good looking woman' half the time isn't even possible. There are those sites out there where the artists edit the images of the models and you can see the before and after. The ones that catch my attention the most are the ones where the model is in position that causes her skin to crease, say leaning toward one side so that there's a crease in her midsection. The artist brushes out that crease, and now the model looks great, but it's physically impossible to stand that way and look like that. Or will actually repaint an entire area to look different, like how her breasts settle in certain areas, or how perky her ass is. So even for the models that our youth strives to look like, it's physically impossible to look how they do on a magazine cover. That just totally blows my mind. We are striving for the impossible, quite literally. Anywho, just had to get that out. To the original topic, I'm a size 14 from a 24, and I do notice a difference. I get compliments on outfits or my hair from complete strangers. I went to get a new drivers' license the other day and so I needed a new picture and the girl who took it told me the picture came out really cute. Cute. Me? Bizarre. Doors held open, having multiple clerks in a store ask me if I need anything, people saying things to me in the grocery store, or some place like that where they previously might have pretended I didn't exist. It's rather odd. I used to try to be invisible, which I think does give off a certain aura that probably makes people tend to ignore you. Now I'm not particularly trying to be seen, but I don't want to be invisible either, and I'm rather liking the attention. I don't really like the attention from guys when I have to be in a seedier part of town, probably mostly because of the way they handle themselves, but then you don't really get to choose, lol.

    Just. Not. Fair.

Size 16 Miss England hopeful Chloe unveils a curvy look in first official bikini shoot | the Daily Mail I am very happy for this girl. I am glad she has the confidence to do something like that. I am about the same size as her, maybe a little smaller, (assuming we are talking about the same size 16 here), and I have to say MY STOMACH DOES NOT LOOK LIKE THAT. I would be SO much happier if it did. But no, I practically have a muffin top even if I'm NEKKID. Okay, I'm done whining now. :cursing:

    Just. Not. Fair.

I wouldn't wear a bikini with that body. Mostly I just which I was happier with my body did look like that, since it wont look that way on the way back down. :Dancing_wub:

What happens when you get the flu?

I had the flu a couple of weeks ago, but I didn't throw up. The mere IDEA of food made me nauseas, so instead of pushing the point, I just chose to drink a lot of Water and not eat anything when I felt that way. I had one piece of toast one day, and an English muffin another day. My husband was nagging me to eat, but it just didn't make sense to eat KNOWING that I'd just throw it up. I have thrown up with the band, and it basically hasn't been any more unpleasant for me than it ever was before I guess... but if I had a stomach bug that was causing me to throw up a lot no matter what I did, I would try to get an unfill so that I didn't have to worry about it.
  24. Marimaru

    Just. Not. Fair.

Sounds like maybe she's close to a US 12... I'm still gonna whine, cuz I still wont have that tummy when I'm a 12, lol. :cursing:

    Students? Here's a tip...

Good grief! I'm just not even sure what to say to that. Why bother teaching if you don't want to be a teacher? Sheesh.
