  1. Hey eveyone,

Getting Sleeved July 27th with Dr Rodriguez. in Juarez, Mexico. I so ready for this to happen!!!! So glad that so many of ya'll are going before me. I'm so nervous but it makes me feel a little better each time I see someone make it through. Good luck to everyone!

  2. I would go post this on obesityhelp.com and post specifically to Misseye and Jimbo.

Misseye lost 200lbs in a little over a year, and Jimbo has dropped 300lbs in 18 months.

So, the sleeve works. Malabsorption only lasts 2 years with RNY with carbs/fat/sugar, but with DS you get a permanent and metabolic switch. Problem for me, on both of those, is the insane Vitamin regimen and complications that come with both long term.

Wow... thank you so so much! Again I have to say WOW that much in that little time. I will definitely be heading over to obesity help. You have instantly made me feel better!

  3. hi cheryl... i feel your pain about the date being far away lol. i'm sched for june 7 and made that decision at the end of march. but the time will get here soon. i only told the people in my office that i'm going to Mexico, i'll tell more people after the surgery. like you, i've found out not everyone in your life will be supportive of this decision. but i'm doing it for me.

    Hi mina,

Thanks for replyingto my post! You guys have made me fee lso much better about my decision. So who's your doctor? When do you have to start your pre op diet? I have to be on mine at least a month. What about you? Good luck with your surgery and keep me posted. One month to go you must be getting excited!

  4. The gas pain is the worst part. Make sure you move as much as possible. Go for lots of walks, windmill your arms, get the nurses to clap you on the back.... I found the GASX strips were a waste of money but YMMV

After the gas passed the pain was localized to the drain site. Once the drain was out, it was like night and day. Such a relief. If you try to drink too much or too fast, there's pain kind of like when you get food stuck.

If you choose to stay in the hotel instead of recovery house, bring some liquid pain meds. You will want them.

Anything else feel free to ask or follow me on my blog. :)

    Good luck!

Hi ToDream, thanks for the advice, the pain has been what I was most worried about! I have alot of questions, so I'm sure to adventually ask plenty. I'm looking forward to checking out your blog, its sure to have alot of great information.

  5. Hi Cheryl! Your title to your message sounded like an AA meeting, lol! Hi, I'm Lisa and I'm a future sleever! :) I have only told one person my thoughts on this, and it was another overweight friend. Nobody understands what it's like to be obese, except all of us. Welcome! Lisa

    Hi Lisa,

LOL your right! It made me laugh when I went back and reread it. I should of just said Hi my name is Cheryl and brownies are my happy crack! lol

  6. Hi Cheryl! Welcome. I went to Dr. Rod just over 2 months ago. He was great! I feel like I have so much more energy to keep up with life!! I'm down about 50 lbs ( including the preop). I was really nervous too, just keep your eye on the prize because it's so worth it!! The preop is hard but it really does get better after a few days. If you have another vice like caffine ( I was addicted to coca cola), I stopped it about a month before surgery so that I wasn't quitting too much at one time. Worked great for me. You'll be much happier after all is said and done. Cheers!!

    Thanks,

50lbs thats so great! I'm definitely a caffine addict, can't go without my coffee. Thanks for the advice I'm going to go ahead and start trying to give it up!

  7. I'm all set for surgery in three months, but all of a sudden I'm scared that the surgery wont work. I know thats a crazy thought, but I'm thinking maybe I shoud get the bypass. Maybe someone my size needs malabsorption. I mean I'm not crazy about the thought of someone rewiring my intestines, but I'm more afraid of not losing the weight. I know that wls surgeries are just tools that are no better than the individual using them. So my question is, did any of you guys start out with really high BMI's or do you know anyone that had a really high BMI? Did your/their surgery work out in the end? I'm so worried already about failing. What are ya'lls thoughts?

  8. I'm scheduled to be sleeved in June, I'm going to Tijuana Mexico and I'm wondering what kind of pain meds will be given after the surgery?? I've heard that I need to bring my own. Any answers would help!! Thanks!!

    Hi DivaDee,

I'm also scheduled to have surgery in Mexico, but for July in Juarez. Who is you surgeon? I'm being sleeved by Dr Rodriguez he is suppling me with pain meds and antibiotics. So I'm pretty sure your surgeon will do the same. However, I have heard a lot of post op people say that liquid tylenol is a must have after surgery. Cheryl

  9. Cheryl,

Few people will understand why you have chosen this route except the people here. I still haven't told anyone in my family. Just my wife and two grown sons know. I've asked them not to discuss it. Personally, it's nobody else's business and when I need support or to talk, I come here. They may suspect what I have done but I don't need their approval. What I have done is make changes for my life. You will find acceptance here...

    Hi massindex,

I wish I would have taken the same route as you and kept my mouth shut! I just never thought that I would get such crap for my decision to have surgery. Your right I don't need anyone's approval. Thank you! I'm so glad that I found this forum. Cheryl

  10. Hi Cheryl and welcome!!

You will find answers to ALL of your questions here, just ask. Everyone is so nice and non-judgemental.

Congrats on the surgery date. Mine is in 10 days!! 3 months will go by so fast!! Just come here and learn all you can before surgery. That way, you will be prepared for anything!

Good luck to you and keep us posted on you journey!

    Kelly :D

Hi Kelly, thanks! Where did you get your weight loss tracker? Do you get it from here somewhere or is there another website? Thanks again!

  11. I have 3 months to go for my surgey. So I can't say that I have all the answers or anything, but I think what you are going through is completely normal. Its sounds like you just have cold feet. Just stick with it, it will all work out in the end. As far as you getting to skinny I have been watching youtube videos and almost everyone that I have seen looks completely healthy. I think dying is a valid fear. That is a risk that any surgery patient takes, but its very rare. How I overcome that nagging question is by asking myself "what is my risk if I don't have the surgery?" Diabetes, high blood pressure, heart attack, or just being fat for the rest of my life. I am 30 years old and have already missed out on so much. I don't want to miss anything else! With that said my fear is that I'll have the surgery and somehow find a way to remain fat. I'm scared that even if I lose weight it wont get me where I want to be. Size 14 would be super model skinny for someone like me. I'm also scared of lose skin, but I tell myself that it can be fixed with surgery.

You said that you wanted to ride a roller coaster again (me to), you said that you wanted to be flirted with again, and that you want to be able to sit without thinking you will break something. I've been there and done that funny now, but devastating at the time. I'm talking "Shallow Hal" moment lol when she was sitting in the crowded restaurant and broke the chair. What I would suggest is to make a list of everything that you want to do. Then when these fears start popping into your head pull out that list and it will remind you of how the surgery will help you get there.

  12. Wow I really feel for ya, but at least its only 10 days. I havn't started my pre op diet yet, but my doc says that I have to do the diet for 4 to 6 weeks because of my size.I'm also a smoker so I'll be dealing with that too. I'm already cringing at the thought. lol But like a few others have stated, it will be worth it in the end. It's the begining of a life changing journry. Just keep a good attitude and you will do great! Good luck with everything.

  13. Hi to everyone, I'm a little shy so this is my first time ever posting on a forum. I havn't had surgery yet, but I have been scheduled for July 26th. My surgery will be in Juarez Mexico with Dr Rodriguez. I am a little nervous, but so so so excited at the same time. It's exciting to think that very soon I'll be able to start a new life thats full of possibilities and my weight will no longer hold me back. I feel like I'm getting a chance to become the person that I was created to be. I don't have many friends or family that understand how limiting obesity is or why I have chosen to have the surgery. So my hope is to make a few friends here that can relate. Three months seems like FOREVER! Does or did anyone else feel like this once that got their surgery date? It seems like time has slowed almost to a hault. lol
