    Protein soups

you can google it. Amazon sells a book all about it. It is a dead flaked yeast. It tastes like bread crumbs on cold Proteins and cheese on hot proteins. I use it almost daily on something and I'm five years out. It adds a savory tastes and at 7-8gr/protein with only an addition of 35-40cal. it's a good additional Protein add-on. Try it----you'll like it!!

    Protein soups

I made home made bone Soup with onions, veggies. When it was done, I blended it in a blender, strained it and then added nutritional yeast to the final soup. The bones I treated my dogs with them. Happy tails mean happy dogs!!! It is/was delicious!!! I made several containers of it and froze it for post op. I did the same with chicken, and veggies. Strained it and added nutritional yeast. I froze the yummy broth and used the chicken for pre-op chicken salad. A little planning ahead and you'll have much better and better for you Protein soup than you'll ever find in a can. Good luck!!!----you little soup maker, you!

    The scary thing...

First of all---WELCOME! Why not talk your surgical fears through with a therapist? Couldn't hurt, right? A therapist should be able to see you through and out of your fears. He/she should also be able to teach you some "calming" techniques you can use to ease the stress and anxiety the day of surgery. What goes on "while you're asleep" is best left to the professionals who have spent many many years training --becoming expertly capable of performing your WLS. You will be "napping peacefully" while they are hard at work ensuring the rest of your life will be ever changed for the better. Do all of your pre op research. Read, view, attend, discuss and FOLLOW YOUR PRE-OP PLAN TO THE LETTER. Include in those weeks and months consultations with a bariatric friendly therapist to work through your surgical fears. You can do this. You know it. You have much to do. Get moving! Keep posting and letting us know how your progress is going. I for one, am looking forward to following your successful WLS journey. Best wishes, and WELCOME, Friend.

    Blood thinner shot Rash

Great minds think alike, eh? Take care and keep on eye on your rash. Please let me know how you're doing. I care.
  9. It's not unusual to have discomfort after taking a laxative. Most people experience it. You are taking a chemical to "insist" your body move waist through and out. Your body is protesting being told what to do. It seemed to be very happy just loafing around and not getting down to business. Anytime we try to "force" mother nature she pouts, moans and groans. However, if your pain gets serious and intolerable, please notify your bariatric team----just to rule out a blockage or impaction. Gas pains and sluggish bowels are the bad boys that plague most of us immediately following WLS. Feel better. Take care of yourself. Remember: if your pain increases, CALL YOUR TEAM. They will know just what you need to do. Please, post back and let us know how you're doing====much better, I hope.

    Blood thinner shot Rash

Did they see the "rash"? Can you "send" them the photo? Anyway, please tomorrow let some professional take a look at it. Maybe mark the perimeter with a sharpie. If it spreads---go to the ER===please. In the meantime, how about some Benadryl lotion? Sometimes applying Maalox topically will calm the itch.----or good ol' fashion Caladryl--remember? The pink stuff. Feel better, my friend and PLEASE post back and let us know how you make out.

    Night eating.

It was suggested to me that I take a Protein shake to bed with me. I sip on it during the night----I'm a poor sleeper.

    Blood thinner shot Rash

Call your surgeon's office. If you can't get ahold of them, call your ER and talk to the physician on call. . Do it now. please
  13. Keep it simple. Wear the same outfit home that you wore in. I took: my robe/slippers my cell phone and charger chapstick my lavender soap (to remind me of home instead of "hospital" smell) my rosary

Bananas are NOT a low carb food

@@Babbs - "Complex carbs are utterly different than simple carbs. That being said, bananas have a fair amount of carbs and sugar, and so should be consumed in moderation (ideally). Why did this discussion, like so many others, turn into a cesspool of bitchy, cranky people being mean to each other?! :/ I love this place and I love you guys but do you ever wonder if it's the newbies driving you away or you guys driving yourselves away? I get that we're all cranky from lack of chocolate (and Snickers?) but man! Lighten up! :)" that's a little more confronting than I'm normally comfortable with, so I deleted it. But since you asked... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Exactly, what she ^^^^ said!

    Frustrated

I would suggest two things: 1. Get your information about not needing any prior authorization with your BMI over 50 in writing. 2. Get your insurance company and The Weight Loss Center on the phone together. Don't give up. Sometimes I think that "they" purposely make things confusing in hopes that you will give up---saving them thousands and thousands of dollars. Be assertive----NOT aggressive and I bet all will work out. Please keep posting and letting us know when your WLS date is!
  16. Congrats on you weight loss. When one's sagging skin pulls on one's spine or neck to the extent to cause severe pain and necessary spinal/cervical reconstruction , THEN the damage that excess skin can do will be realized. Does it happen to everyone? of course not Does it happen to enough to be a consideration to pre-op WLS folks? Absolutely! Is skin removal surgery major and painful? WLS itself is a walk in the park compared to skin removal surgery. (MHO). So, please don't take skin surgery lightly, but when needed, there is no choice. It is not always for cosmetic reasons.

    Tomorrow's the big day!

Your work for now is done. Take a deep breath and do-------absolutely nothing. You have done the really hard part. You have recognized your obesity. You have taken responsibility for it and have acted. You have read , researched, listened and learned You have jumped through the hoops. You have done the pre-op diet. You completed all of the pre-op consults. Now it is time to "let it go". It's your surgeon's turn to do his part of your bargain. So, for tonight-- do-----absolutely nothing except get some sleep. And tomorrow? It gets real. Meet you on, "The Losers' Bench". Now, GOOD NIGHT!
  18. I have always been able to tolerate seafood over chicken, pork or beef. As far as seafood salad is concerned, I guess that depends on what's in the salad. Is it just tuna and mayo/yogurt? ---or does it have celery, nuts and/or dried fruit in it? Seafood is a wonderful, healthy Protein source. Just make sure that it is of a consistency that you can tolerate at your level. Enjoy!!!

    Still Sick

Congrats on your successful journey. I am five years out and I still have restriction---still "slime"--still "dump" and still "hit the wall". I also still have no appetite. I consider it all means that my sleeve is alive and well. I've learned to listen to it, follow its lead and give thanks everyday. Anytime you have serious questions about your body post WLS, why not call your bariatric team? They better than any of us will be able to help and guide you. We can give you our own personal opinion based on our experiences but that is all. Feel Better, Friend. Please post and let us know what you find out.
  20. So, it begins. How exciting! Good idea to write down your and hubby's questions. Remember your visit is YOUR time with the surgeon. Be sure all of your questions are answered. Do not get rushed. Be sure to post and let us know how your first consult with the surgeon went.

    NSV: Going to the Doctor

Congrats on your joyful journey! I know that feeling about weighing in at the MD's office. Last week when I went to my plastic surgeon's office for a post op visit, the nurse forgot to weigh me. I was soooo disappointed that I stopped by the scale and reminded him to weigh me!!!! That would have NEVER happened pre WLS. Wonderful feeling! You're absolutely correct, Friend!
  22. Remember at the soft food stage you can eat anything that you can cook in a crock pot. The recipes are endless! My favorite was chicken cooked in a crock pot with diet root beer. I know. it sounds yucky, but it tastes wonderful----honest. just make sure what you're eating is super most and smooth---even if you have to put it into a blender for a second or two after crocking it. Think outside the box when crocking it. There are also dozens and dozens of recipes on line. If something isn't tolerated at the moment, don't give up on it---just try it again in a couple of weeks. Good luck and happy experimenting!!!

    Weight Loss and Sadness

Feeling a little crazy??? Well, welcome to the zoo, Girlfriend!!! Really, I know that I have trouble finding my "bubble" sometimes. What I mean by that is remember on a carpenter's level there is a little bubble that when is between two lines means that whatever the carpenter is working on is "level"? Well, Friend sometimes my bubble isn't even in the same county!!! All I do is take a deep breath, smile to myself and try to enjoy my "uniqueness". How boring life would be if we were all clones of one another. Be kind to yourself. Take some alone time and learn about YOU. ----how special you are----what really interests you----just to daydream. Crazy???? maybe, but delightfully so!!! You'rel going to be fine----more than fine----you're going to be PERFECTLY YOU!!!! PS: Your bariatric team's office folks will have names of bariatric friendly therapists. I look forward to following your journey. We can "skip" along the path together if you'd like.
  24. Hell on earth? Basically.. some people's sleeves (mine included at least right now) cannot tolerate certain foods and when they eat those foods it causes immediate and severe diaherria, nausea, (and at least in my case vomitting). I'm talking where you're in front of the toilet and it's coming out both ends for several hours - at least that's my experience with it. However, you can avoid it by avoiding the foods that cause it if you ever experience it. For instance, Right now that means I can't have any ice cream (which is very sad as I love ice cream). I dislike yogurt but I found out that I do like frozen yogurt so I've been eating that to fulfill my ice cream craving (once in a while only!) and it's made it bearable lol. Sometimes dumping syndrome and the foods you can't eat fade over time post surgery for those who have it and sometimes they do not, but it's less common in sleeve patients than in gastric bypass patients. Foods that are likely to cause dumping syndrome include: any sugary foods or drinks, pastas, breads, rice etc. Wow. That sounds horrible. Sent from my Z970 using the BariatricPal App It's not pleasant, but I have grown to accept it as another "tool". Dumping keeps me honest and on track. Believe me, once you've experienced dumping you will try VERY hard not to have it again. Sooo, I don't eat Pasta, rice, bread, anything overly sweet, rich, or spicy. sounds like good bariatric thinking, right? That's why I don't regret that I am one of the 17%!

    Weight Loss and Sadness

You are not alone. No matter what you're feeling---no matter how silly, ridiculous, wrong, isolating, self flogging you are feeling just know that YOU ARE NOT ALONE. If ever you needed someone to share what you are experiencing with----the time is NOW. Please make an appointment with your therapist --one who specializes with bariatric issues. He/she will be able to help you sort your feelings out and how to move forward. WLS is a roller coaster. Mourning for food is normal for most. Not seeing the "new body" in the mirror is echoed by most of us. Not "knowing" the new body and feeling uncomfortable with it is real. ( I wonder if your body is just not comfortable at your lowest weight---just a thought) BUT, it ALL of those feelings can be isolated and dealt with , with the help of a professional therapist. I'm five years out and I'm still seeing my therapist regularly. No shame in the telling--in the sharing. Above all,I guess what I want to get into your head is: YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Along with some therapy, keep posting here. There are members here who will care and emphalize. I certainly do. Hang on and keep talking.
