URGENT--advice needed
Valentina replied to Krystenaj's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Can you have your surgery with the surgeon you have your trust with and then switch to a different post-op group? I have moved since my surgery and have been welcomed into the bariatric community in my new area. It sounds to me that your present group is in need of a new coordinator. Want a new job? Really though, I would make sure they know --with documentation--just how and where THEY have failed YOU. You could muggle through--trying to make suggestions for corrections as you go toward your surgery or just choose a different surgeon. Since you already have your approval, the set back shouldn't be too severe. Things like this happening is just poor administration. It is senseless and certainly not patient friendly. Is this hospital a "Center of Excellence"? Please, keep posting and let us know what you decide to do. We care. Again, I am soo sorry you have to experience this during what is supposed to be a wonderful lifechanging journey. I'm rooting for you. Stay strong. ! -
A little sunshine through all the clouds
Valentina replied to Andrea72's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Damn, girl! You DO look good! I, too have no support system at home. BP has been my support for 5 yrs now. Some days are still dark, but those days are fewer and a wee bit brighter. I can't ask for more. Hoping your journey remains mostly sunny with little chance of rain! -
Everywhere I go I take a sweater and a hand fan. As I lose my "insulation", I am cold most of the time, but as my fibromyalga worsens, so do my hot flashes. I sometimes have to check to see how Gucci (my chinese crested) is faring. Since he is hairless, I look to him to judge what "normal temp" for the day is. Whether it's switching from a sweater to fanning myself within a thirty second time period, I'm much healthier and moving forward with my life. I'll take that!

I weighed myself today and have come to the conclusion.. I gotta buy some lighter underwear.
-
laugh, my friend ---with my own pitiful self, but it's soooo true. I might not even wear deodorant or perfume on weigh in day! (an absolutely no panty liners ! psssst--that's for the gals only
--unless you're KF and you're wearing one under you chin in the name of a scientific experiment...)
-
laughing with you not at you! I'm just as pathetic!......taking my watch off prior to getting on the scale has been a normal thing for me for a long time! LOL.....the only time this was different was pre-surgery when I had to make sure I didn't fall below a 40 bmi......I think that was the weirdest time of my life!....I even had a roll of pennies in my pocket for one visit where I knew it would be close...shhhhh did I say that out loud? haha

Surgery Day is Here! 6/15/16
Valentina replied to EGdee's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
sleep well, friend. All will be well. We shall rendezvous at the ,"Losers' Bench". You can rest there. -
Black sea bass (rock fish) are soooo yummy. Just be careful getting them out from the rocks!! Need any lessons on tying the "perfect" knot? It is fluke season now, and the big door mats are equally as good to grill. We did grill some Ling fish last summer. They were very light tasting. Wishing you nothing by "tight lines", my friend.

Has anyone experienced a leak due to drinking protein prior to 5 weeks?
Valentina replied to sleeverv's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Was this the surgeon in Mexico?. Could there be a language barrier problem? I hope you re-establish locally as soon as you can. I hope the rest of your journey is a joyful one despite this bump in the road. -
Next time I catch a striped bass, will one of you smoke it???? I used to trade one salmon caught for 1/2 salmon smoked. It was soooo frigg'n yummy! I'll ship it to you frozen overnight. ----and you can keep 1/2. OR You can just meet me on the surf...

Will WLS work if the problem isn't overeating?
Valentina replied to WitchySar's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thank you. When I mentioned my decision for surgery to my primary she agreed 100% that this is what I need. So, now you have your answer. Go for it. Research, study, watch, talk, absorb every bit of information you can now while you are pre-op. Learn as you go--most of us had to. Many have had WLS with less motivation than you have demonstrated. I believe. -

Exactly, what she ^^^^ said. AND: I hear you and will try not to talk over what you are saying. You say that you are 100% committed to the process. Who are we to doubt you? Having WLS is a real life changer. It's no joke. It's difficult on the best days.--especially if you are a "dump syndromer" Yes, yes, and again yes. If you are truly committed to working 100% with your new body and nothing else has worked, then why not?? Losing weight during the "honeymoon" period is just what some need to overcome comorbidities and to attain renewed motivation and habits to last a life time. I am no longer a dooms dayer. I have become ever optimistic. Go for it, Friend. Losing your weight, and living a healthier life is the one way to prove you 100% commitment and then say, "I told ya so". If your Bariatric team is agreeing with you that WLS is a positive option for you, who are we to be nay sayers? I wish you well with whatever decision you make. Please post and let us know . Prayers going up. -

I agree with Christinamo7. The first year out is all about learning and then establishing eating habits that you will have for the rest of your life. When I eat anything sugary, overly rich, Pasta, rice or bread I get dumping syndrome--nausea, cramping, vomiting. About 17% of all sleevers experience dumping. I have learned to consider it a blessing as it keeps me on track whenever I might be tempted. I hope my response is helpful to you. Keep posting and letting us know about your journey. Prayers going up -
Finally Feeling Real!
Valentina replied to MadisonsMommy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Psych ready? check Heart ready? Check pre-op weight loss? Check Nutritionally informed? Check Endoscopy completed? Check All systems checked, Houston. We are ready and waiting for TAKE OFF!!!! -
With any concerning pain, it is always best to call your bariatric team. They know you better than any one. If it is after hours, please call the "physician on call". She/he will be able to guide you better than any of us. PLEASE call, feel better and come back and post to let us know that you are "on the mend". Prayers for your feeling better going up.

I started drinking V8 during my full liquid stage. I started green Beans and no-sugar added applesauce during my soft food stage. I was told to dip my Protein into unsweetened applesauce to moisten it allowing the protein to slide down better. It's fascinating how different our plans are achieving the same goals.

Scallops, crab legs and saganaki

AKA: ambrosia of the Gods! YUM!! Also soft would be my guess. Now you've done it---I want some! How are you preparing it? -
Anyone gain then lose again?
Valentina replied to akreese02's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It's difficult because it's not the same. You still have your sleeve working for you, but losing weight now will be slower. Can you contact your Nut/Dietitian and brainstorm about a regime? I am 5yrs out, still feel no hunger, still have my restriction, but even with all of those plusses the weight comes off sssssssllllllloooooowwwwwwlllllyyyyy. BUT, it does come off. Seriously, I would call your "team" and "get back at it". Good luck. Post often to let us know how your doing, please. Prayers going up. -
My surgeon says no protein supplements until week 5. Does this sound right to you?
Valentina replied to sleeverv's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're very welcome. That's what BP is all about--supporting one another. -

We care--yep, we do. Prayers going up for fewer bumps in the road and a smooth , joyous path in your future.

Friend, How soon can you get your ENTIRE file from Mexico? This is my suggestion. Please post and let us know how you are doing ---and where! Prayers going up for you. -
Driving LOOOOONG distance after surgery. Good or bad?
Valentina replied to ChristinasSleeveStory's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello, I realize that sometimes we have to do what we have to do. Life dictates the steps we take at times. Since you haven't had your surgery yet, PLAN ahead. Brain storm with your bariatric team. Maybe you can map Quest the trip and mark "resting/walking" areas where you will stop and do just that. A DVT is a real threat right after surgery. (Deep Vein Thrombosis AKA: blood clot) They can be lethal. By all means, make an appointment with the "long distance driving" the top item on the agenda. Plan ahead---stay ahead. Prayers going up for you and a safe and healthy trip and WLS journey. -
We called them, "Come to Jesus" meetings. ---everyone around the kitchen table for "discussion". Tell them upfront with the "whys", "hows", and" wheres" and how it will effect THEM. Include your ideas how they can help you get through the different stages. Children love to feel useful.---especially for a parent. Then sit back and answer their questions--as simply, but honestly as possible. Children of this world these days are bright, intelligent, and great problem solvers. They get it because YOU get it. Prayers going up for you and the gang.

Major surgery takes its toll on the body. Some folks will take almost a year to fully "wake up", and feel like themselves again. Unfortunately, our bodies can't tell time, but operate on a "clock" of their own. Rest when you can. Two tots? God Bless! Hopefully, maybe a neighbor or a friend/relative could take turns and watch them so you can get a daily nap? Otherwise, we just have to do the best we can do. Why not call your team and ask for any suggestions they may have to help you raise your energy level. Feel better, Friend. Please post and let us know how you are doing. Prayers going up
