  1. Hello, I sat at the hospital yesterday while my dear friend had her VSG surgery with the same doctor I used. As the time passed, I thought about where I was two years ago and my journey since then. While it hasn't been all butterflies and rainbows, I wouldn't do anything differently. I achieved my goal weight and found the person I had buried away long ago. I've been blessed with many supportive friends and family members and adapted to those who were not so supportive. These forums helped me soooo much! My diet is fairly normal now. I eat mostly what I want (within reason), just a lot less. I exercise 6 or 7 days a week. While I appreciate the results of exercise, I really don't like to do it! Thanks to iHeartRadio though, I push through. Losing the weight came in spurts and stalls in my case. I would have 2 months of nothing and then a consistent 6 weeks of loss. If you are just thinking about surgery, it is well worth it! If you are a "slow loser", don't despair. If you are an old pro, congrats! Blessings, Leslie At my highest weight, about 240. This was taken on 9/19/13 at my current weight of 142.
  2. Yes! He did my VSG in July 2011. I would recommend him without reservation. Since my surgery, he has sleeved two of my friends. I had surgery at Jewish but I think he operates at Christ and his own center now. I have reached my goal and then some. His office is very supportive all the way through the process and after your surgery is over.
  3. So I went to pick up my post-op pain meds cause my surgeon wants us to do that beforehand. The pharmacist was explaing them to me and asked if the meds were "for after I had the baby". I laughed it off but was kinda embarrassed. LOL!! More reason to have this surgery!!!

Did any of you ever wonder...

I did wonder that, especially when I hit a stall last week. WHen it ended, and the pounds just fell off, I was amazed. Now, I just really don't think about food. It doesn't seem to rule my brain. I think that is what helps this tool work!

I hated the Isopure with a passion. I know some on here love it though!

    How soon can I swim?

I was told I could take a bath, swim, whatever at 2 weeks post op. I have been swimming twice and taken a few baths. No infection here. I think as long as your incisions are closed, it is safe. The only thing my doc cautioned me on was working my abs... no doing that until six weeks out! Hope this helps.

    Eating solids

I am doing well also. I can only eat at a max 1/3cup at a time of anything though. They only thing I have had issue with is a spicy Indian dish. I have NO IDEA why I even tried that.... I am walking about 2-3 miles a day, swimming, and doing upper and lower body weight lifting. I am not allowed to work my core yet.

    Tommorow is the big day!

YAY!! I am glad your surgery went well! See... you survived!! No worries about leaving yoru kids now! You will be healthy and happy and around for a looong time! Blessings and speedy recovery!! It gets better every day!!
  15. It gets easier I promise. It will help your liver be in good shape and reduce your carb cravings. I know it sucks but you can do it and you will be glad you did!!
  16. I had a hernia repair with the VSG and I think it definintely added to my pain. In fact, it MAY have been the majority of it. I wouldn't let the fear of the pain from surgery scare anyone away from having it done. The pain is temporary but the weight loss is worth it.
  17. Your liver likes to store carbs and sugar. I would recommend doing a low fat/low carb diet for at least a week. That way your liver will be depleted of its sugar stores and be nice and flat for surgery.
  18. "I affectionately smiled at my adorable husband, and said " you can stop hiking your leg on my thigh". That night we had a long discussion about my weight loss, and I point blank told him "I'd leave you fat too!" " That is toooo funny!!! Sounds like something I would say! I wouldn't worry too much about the Acai supplements. I agree with a PP, give him a hug and tell him you love hima nd appreciate his concern.

    IM IN ONEDERLAND

    Congrats! You are beautiful!!
  20. I had surgery on 7/12. To be honest, I did have pain. I would rate it from kinda annoying to pretty bad depending on the day. That being said, my pain was almost gone at a week out. Now at almost two weeks, nothing hurts at all. I am able to walk 3 miles a day will no pain or ill effects. I can drink without issue and I haven't had any food cause me problems but I am still on a pureed diet. I did have byer's remorse for a few days but I feel great now and I am soooo glad I had the surgery. Blessings and good luck! Leslie

    Hospital Stay

I was sleeved at 730am on Tuesday and went home at 11am on Wednesday. My surgeon usually keeps his VSG patients one night. I think I recovered better at home anyways! Good luck to you!
  22. Since the hormones in Mirena do not work systemically, they should NOT increase the chances of a blood clot. So says my boss, the OB. I believe him..... I didn't have a clot. I think the most important factor with blood clots is making sure to walk as much as possible, as soon as possible. I think hormonal BC pills are evil and that nobody should take them.
  23. I am glad you are doing well! You will do great once you get home!
  24. The hormones in Mirena should not effect weight loss. They are very low dose and released and act directly in the uterus. They do not circulate in the blood stream. The hormome in Mirena works differently than bc pills to prevent pregnancy. I have Mirena, am a VSG patient, and a Midwife. You should be fine! Good luck! Leslie

    Going crazy

You are doing the right thing by having the surgery. It is sooooo hard when you have kids to think about what could happen. I was freaking out before surgery too cause I was worried I would be a statistic. You will do fine and you will be heathier as a result! Deep breaths......
