  1. Welch's fruit snacks...never a good idea, even in the little packets, I don't care if they are made with fruit juice!

  2. I think I'm drinking too much. I can't seem to drink water fast enough. My throat is sore, so I want to drink ice water to soothe it, but I can't drink it but so fast. Still when I drink it's not doing much but just sitting in my stomach, giving me a stomach ache, and sloshing around whenever I move.

  3. My sinuses are trying to kill me! How am I supposed to workout when I feel like this?

  4. I find when I get hungry I need to increase my Protein and Fiber at my meals. That cuts down on my snacking. I have three meals and 2 Snacks. My snacks are a piece of turkey lunchmeat and laughing cow cheese, and a Protein Bar later in the day. With your meal if you can get in a little more protein/fiber, you may find that you're staying full longer. Also, try to increase your fluids. I also drink Special K protein Water. It's only 5 grams of protein, but the extra protein can help hold you over until the next meal. Good luck!
  5. Just tried the Atkins Advantage Charamel Double Choclate Crunch Protein Bar. It's pretty good. Not as much protein as the peanut butter chocolate, but it's still 10 grams of protein and I needed a different taste!

  6. A few days ago, I posted a rather serious post about not fitting into my body. Well, I think my temporary crisis of discomfort and spending time in Shannyland (that's what I call being inside my head too long) is over. I'm having a good day. Just want to tell you all that I'm proud of you for chosing life and for all of the accomplishments that you've made. Everytime I think I'll never figure this sleeve out, I log on and you guys inspire me. You may not know it, but you're rock stars! Even with the setbacks and stalls you guys keep pressing on. That's so aweome! Keep up the good work.
  7. I get thrush everytime I have surgery. It's normal. It went away after about 10 days.
  8. Don't get discouraged. My sleep study showed that I didn't have sleep apnia. I only had a get a letter from my PCP showing my weight from 5 random appointments from 5 different years. My BMI was on 40, and I NO comorbidity symptoms. My insurance still paid for the surgery and Dr. Liao's office still took me as a patient. They treat each person on a case by case basis. As long as you are at least 100 pounds overweight or have a BMI of 40 or more, they will work with you. You still have to do all the stuff your insurance says, but don't let that discourage you. I didn't think they would say yes, either, but my insurance said yes on the first try as soon as they submitted all the paperwork. The office is great on creating an airtight file before they submit it. You have a heartproblem and a history of failed diets, that alone is enough for Dr. Liao to take your case. Give his office a call. It can't hurt! Don't let your husband discourage you either. You need to do this for YOU, not for him. It would be great if he were in your corner, but sometimes you have to live for you. It's your health and your life. Good luck!
  9. Really need to figure out what I'm cooking for dinner tonight. Since chicken is the only thing that I can digest these days, chicken it is, but what kind? Everyone else is having speghetti. I like speghetti...oh well.

    Return to work

I'm 34 years old. I'm 5'1" and was 247 pounds. It took me 3 weeks to go back to work, but I had some problems with nausea and dehydration.
  11. Okay, so I've posted before that I do take a PPI, and I still have indigestion. I also take Maalox in addition to my PPI and I still have indigestion most of the time. The problem is I need to belch but most of the time I can't. If I have like 1 or 2 sips of Ginger Ale will it do a lot of damage? I have never been really gassy the other way, but I still have a lot of gas that now I can't get to move. Walking doesn't make it come up. I can't make myself belch. Carbonation used to do the trick before the sleeve. I know a whole soda would be terrible, but 1 month out a couple of sips to make me burp won't kill me, will it?

    Any Teachers Out There!??

Though Im not a teacher I'm staff at a school and I sub when I'm needed. I had the same problem. This is my second week back to work. Whe possible, at lunch I take a nap. I also eat at my desk, or if I have to sub, I tend to eat my lunch when I don't have a class. Fortunately, it's a high school so I don't have to walk anyone anywhere. But, I feel your pain. I hope it gets easier for you!

    Need to belch

My girlfriend pats me on the back and rubs it like burping a baby until I can burp, usually. But when i'm alone I've been desperate to try anything that may work. This weekend, I had indigestion so bad that I had the hiccups. I discovered that ice water helped. After every sip of the cold water I was able to belch, and it made the hiccups go away! I don't know why it worked, but it did!

  16. Dispite all of the problems with indigestion, and my stomach hating the hell out of me, I'm now 198 pounds! I haven't been under 200 pounds since I had my son 13 years ago!!!! OMG, I'm so excited! I went shopping again this weekend. I only lasted in a 20 for a week, I'm officially an 18; I can't quite get the 16's to fasten yet. But, the Goodwill has a 1/2 price sale on Saturdays so I'm not really that concerned. I feel good, most days. I'm experimenting with eating "real food", and I'm actually losing weight. I can't tell you how elated I am. Thank you to everyone on this site that has been so supportive! I'm sharing in this milestone with all of you!
  17. Your surgery date is my birthday! I know it's going to be successful!

    No energy

I'm a month out and I'm the same way. I still have to take naps in the middle of the day because I don't have the energy I used to have. My doc said it's from my body getting used to not getting as many calories as it once had. It's an adjustment. Also, it takes some of us longer to bounce back from being up under. I had a hysterectomy 2 years ago and bounce back faster than I have from this! I've only been back to work for a week, and even last week I only worked 1/2 days because of exhaustion. Today at lunch, in fact, I'm going to take a nap. It happens to some of us. Hang in there. Make sure that you're getting enough Protein and fluids. Hope you feel better soon!

    smoking question

I am a smoker(trying to be nonsmoker) who was sleeved. I quit for 6 wks before my surgery, then started about 2 weeks after. I started wearing the patch this weekend. I noticed this weekend, that my indigestion got 10 x worse whenever I smoked. So, as an experiment I stopped smoking on Saturday and started wearing the patch. I still have indigestion, but it's not nearly as bad. I know smoke effects your esphougas and stomach, I'm not sure but somehow only being one month out of surgery and still healing it's doing a number on me. I'd rather not smoke and feel good, than get my fix and feel like crap drinking Maalox all day long. It's not worth it.
  20. So today I went for my 1 month post op appointment. My doctor says I'm doing great. I'm pissed because I haven't lost any weight this week. I haven't gained any either, so that's a good sign. He's concerned because I'm only averaging about 450-500 calories a day. I just can't eat that much. I've been scared to try food too much, still holding strong to puree because I'm afraid to stretch my sleeve. He wants me to get at least 750-800 calories and to start trying to eat real food. Do you have any suggestions of what I can eat? Right now my diet is all Protein, except my 1 yogurt a day. I have 1 Protein shake in the morning, 1 yogurt as a mid morning snack, some sort of meat or fish for lunch (chicken in a can or tuna), 1/2 Protein Bar in the afternoon, and Soup for dinner. I still can only eat about 3.5-4 oz at a time, so I don't see where I can fit more calories in. He said I could increase my carbs, but I know myself and that's not a good idea. Knowing me that'll be an excuse to eat Pasta and everything else I'm not supposed to have. Don't see how I'm supposed to do it with what I'm eating and all the drinking of Water. There aren't enough hours in the day. Just looking for suggestions.

    Need to belch

The problem is I'm not belching. I just feel the gas move around in my chest/stomach and it's not going anywhere else. Sometimes if feels like regular indigestion, sometimes it feels like something stuck in my throat. I don't know what it is, but it's pretty annoying. Today for example I had 2 Protein shakes, 5 glasses of Water and 1/2 bowl of Special K. Why? because when I try to eat I get indigestion, and it's not as bad when I drink. This sucks.

    What can happen if....

When I try to do food I can't get enough protein. I can't get enough protein in. I'm still on 1 shake a day and 1 bar and the rest food. When I wasn't getting enough I was tired, and my muscles hurt. I also had deep tissue pain, bruising, and my hair started breaking off. It was horrible.
  23. What is sliming? Sorry, I'm not down with all the terms yet. Only a month out and still learning my sleeve. My sleeve hates broccolli, ground beef, and tomatoes. I'm introducing foods slowly. I still suffer from horrible indigestion 50% of the time so I'm scared to try new things. Even with my PPI and drinking Maalox like Kool Aid I still have reflux problems. Doc says it's still really tight and the tests show no hernia or anything just need more time to heal. Oh well.
  24. I'm now on the soft food part of my diet, and I was wondering if bread counts as soft foods. I want a taste of bread so bad. It can be wheat bread or whole grain for all I care. I know white bread is out. That's so sad. Just wondering when you started eating bread, if at.
