Protein should make up 70% of your diet and carbohydrates 30%. You should be getting at least 80 grams of protein/day. If you don't get the protein, your body will breakdown your lean body mass (a.k.a. muscle). Muscle is what burns fat, so you don't want to lose this. This means 3 bites protein to 1 bite carb. It sounds hard but I've been doing this for almost 18 months and it's working for me. I had my lapband on 12/21/05 and have lost 128.5 pounds so far.

I had the surgery almost 16 months ago and have not regreted it for one second. I had to take out a 2nd mortgage on my house but my life is worth it. I can not tell you how my life has changed in so many ways, it's a completely different life. If you want to hear more, I'd be happy to tell you.

Some of what you're feeling is the CO2 that they fill-up your abdomen with, it takes a few days to work out of your system. It also takes 2-3 weeks for the effects of anesthia to wear-off. Just hang in there, it gets better.

Sometimes when you don't feel like the weight is coming off as fast as you'd like, take your measurements. If you're exercising, you may be putting on muscle and not showing much on the scale. You can also tell by the way that your clothes are fitting. It will come in time if you are doing your part.

It's real important to get all your Fluid, bare minimum of 48 oz per day for basic metabolic needs. You should try to get more. Fiber tablet supplements or benefiber in your Protein Shakes or food will help. Exercise also helps with Constipation.< /p>

Hi,
I'm almost 16 months post lapband. I had my lapband 12/21/05. Was surfing the web last night and decided to join this forum. I've had a few challenges along this new journey and continue to learn more about myself every day. Would love to talk with anyone contemplating surgery or freshly banded.

Are you getting enough Fluid? You need a bare minimum of 48 oz/day for metabolic function but should get even more. Also, if you don't get enough to eat, your body goes into starvation mode and will hang onto the fat and burn off the lean body mass (muscle). I wouldn't go below 1200 cal/day myself. Are you getting enough Protein? For females that is 80 grams/day and for males it's 100 grams/day.
