  1. My husband is ready to go to Mexico for surgery. We are trying to finalize what doctor he is going to use. We have it narrowed down to 3- Dr. Kelly, Dr. Rodriguez and Dr. Aceves. They all have very good reputations. Dr. Kelly is the most affordable, but we are not looking for the cheapest.

Looks loike there are a few websites you can book Dr. Kelly through. Can anyone give me direct contact info. Also, it says you can stay in a recovery house after surgery for the last night. My husband would rather stay in the hotel or hospital.

Please send me any infor on these doctors.

    Thanks,

    Vicki

    i got a wonderful dr for a great price; i made sure i booked directly with trish cause i did not want my money to go to middleman just the dr, nurse, hospital, anesthesia the important people. everything went ok and i have lost 40 lbs. feel great;

  2. i had my surgery march 2011; my BMI was 30 but i also have high blood pressue; high cholesterol, has gestational diabetes and have a horrible family history of cardiac disease. have 6 brothers all under age 63 ys ; one has had stents, open heart bypas; one had carotid endarterectomy; another has 3 stents and my mother had her first heart attack age 52 and died before she turned 65. so dr. kelly in mexico did my sleeve because of my family history and the 50 lbs i need to lose which i have been carrying around since 1993. i have lost 36 lbs and now i take 1/2 dose of my high blood pressure pill; i feel great. dr. kelly charge me 5300.00 it covered all hospital costs plus two nights in hospital, two nights in hotel (i just paid for airfare and the package cost 5300) and my niece came along for support. dr. kelly is the best.

  3. I had my plication at BMI 30, which seems to be the lowest BMI people operate on (both Mexico and Belgium operate at 30). I was told that if I weighed in at BMI 29.9 it wasn't going to happen, no way, no how. I tried chugging Water just to ensure it was BMI 30 but kept having go to the bathroom, so don't bother with that technique.

Just make sure you qualify before paying your deposit, as I gained ~30lbs in 2 months (I'd just crashed out of doing WW and another diet for 12 months) and assumed the weight increase would continue, but it seemed to top out at the BMI 30 mark but I was scared of going higher.

I was very borderline and it's not a game worth playing, so make sure you're really eligible. Note I'm not advocating gaining to qualify though, if you're at a BMI of 27 stay where you are. The weight doesn't just magically drop off and you still need to work hard at diet and exercise.

BTW on the morning of surgery they were debating my BMI (it comes out differently on different sites), but I'd worked it out on http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/ which puts your BMI lower than the calculator on alli website. They were threatening to band me!!

BTW you can get a gastric balloon at BMI 28. Success, I understand, can be limited but you could investigate it.

    All the best! smile.gif

  4. Hi i am thinking of having sleeve done and was wondering about Dr Kelly and Mexico experience. I have medical insurance but it covers no obesity procedures so it will be up to me to pay for procedure. I have noticed advertisements in mexico are much cheaper than here in US. Any information would be appreciated.

    Thanks Trish

hi i had surgery march 4th with dr. kelly. shelia and her dtr were there and shelia had surgery a few days after me. i felt safe whole time i was there. dr. kelly is a very good dr and the price is 1/2 of what you self pay in the states. hospital is a little older but had everything you need. nurses were fine. i am a nurse also. i was mostly concerned with postop pain, i had a bad experience after my hysterectomy in the states. they give you toradol IV around the clock and i had no problem with nausea. dr. kelly is a good choice.

  5. Ok, so I'm finally at the point where I can schedule a surgery dare (yay!!). Now I just need to decide on a doctor. I've heard good things about both Dr. Almanza & Dr. Kelly but I'm so torn. Any input on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

dr. kelly did my surgery march 4th. it is done at a hospital not a clinic. dr. kelly made rounds and checked on me after surgery. he will sit and explain the surgery and answer all questions. he cost more than the other dr but it was still a wonderful price included two nights in hospital two nights at nice hotel.

  6. I'm with you Groove! 10 more days for me and I'm really beginning to get nervous! I'm having all kinds of crazy thoughts running through my head! I'm trying to get focused and concentrate on the things I need to get done before surgery. I hope the day comes, and goes, quickly! Are you doing your pre-op yet. I am, but I'm totally sucking at it!

hi girls, dr.kelly did my surgery on march the 4th. everything went well my only complaint was my backwards ride on strecther to OR. trish is really busy but she did fine by me. i am a nurse and the hospital, nurses, esp dr were good. i still can't beleive i went to mexico for surgery but i am glad i did. total cost hotels, flights, surgery totaled 6000.00. 1/2 of what it would cost in the states.

  9. Unfortunately, I'm going 1 month earlier : (

I have been trying to find someone going when I am going as well because i will be alone. So far I haven't had any luck but I still have 1 week left to find a "buddy".

Do you know how long of a flight will you be taking when you go? Luckily I will be flying from Texas so it wont be too long for me.

  10. In just 9 hours i will be on a plane to Mexico, to have my band to sleeve revision. i am really nervous about doing this alone, but excited for this new chapter in my life. i am an emotionl wreck, but im greatful for all of you and your support. the hardest part about this so far has been the liquid diet! im starving!!!!!!!! ive read that some people go out for a last meal the night before and others have to be on a liquid diet for days or even weeks. why the difference?

i will post from mexico as soon as i can, and im taking my video camera.i would like to film the whole experience if they will allow it. i sure would have liked to watch a video like that before my journey.

    shaundra

hi shaundra, i am scheduled with dr. kelly march 4th. i would love to see a utube or video. please PM me if you do. wish you the easy recovery. barb

  11. How long did you use your spirometer(lung air capacity device) after released from the hospital? The hospital just said to continue at home, but I didn't ask how long.

if you are not a smoker and you are walking up &about, you don't have to keep using spirometer, it is to help prevent pneumonia; it makes you do deep breathing . unless you have a cough or a smoker you are probably fine to stop.
