  1. I too, had unbearable, heart burn and sour stomach for a week or two. I'm not almost 6 weeks out and am fine but my Dr recommended 60 days of Prilosic. Not sure if it is that or just been awhile but it is working.

my surgery was sept 28, today was the only time i felt a little iffy about what i was eating and i relized why i forgot to take my previcid this morning. I start work tommorrow so i will make sure i will take it in the morning. im eating a litle fat and surger free chocalate pudding now and my stomach is settling a little.

  2. I actually had luck with deli meats on crackers ... also since you are probably not into cooking, try getting the individually frozen items at costco. hey have individually frozen chicken breast in the bag (look carefully bec they come as one big bag or as individually wrapped in the bag - they stay fresher that way), they also have individually wrapped salmon and a white fish - I think it may have been Halibut.

You can whip each one out onto a broiler pain and eat in a few minutes. they are proportioned as well to be good for 2 meals usually.

meat balls are a great idea - going to try that

  3. Anna,

how long before you could eat and keep down a meal - say 1/4 or a 1/2 hamburger or peice of chicken breast?

My ideals are 600-800 calories per day, 70 g Protein. I don't stress as much about carbs anymore.

Lately I have been about 800-1100 per day. It is normal to get there at this far out I guess but it stresses me out!!!! I really think that journaling is key, I have found that on days when I don't if I go back and enter what I ate just to see, that I am always shocked at what I ate. I feel more in control if I go to my journaling site (obesityhelp.com) and do the next days journal in advance. I always end up making changes to it, but having a loose game plan makes it so I don't get too busy in my day to make the choices that are important to me. Hopefully this helps!

  4. I hate to say it but I am SO glad you are all puking also. I am sick for no rhyme or reason sometimes. Last week it was 3 days in a row and then for 4 days I ate small amounts of M potatoes, chicken, beef etc and then yesterday back to puking. The only thing I can reliably keep down is toast and crackers. I sure hope it gets better. I'd like to see some people who are more than 4-8 weeks post op pipe in. I'm getting to the point where I don't want to try and eat all day for fear of being sick at work. The puking is so gross too with all of the slime.

My dr didn't really want us to do Protein Shakes after we went on food but I may have to get back to them. Yesterday morning - 36 hours ago - I had 3 crackers with shredded chix salad.

Fluids are a real challenge as well. I can get them down with no problem but within an hour of eating it will hasten my getting sick. I was trying to eat 5 very small amounts a day which left almost no time around that (30 minutes before and 60 minutes after) to get down my fluids.

Nutritionally, if I am getting down a Multi-Vitamin, what else do I have to get down and keep down each day to stay healthy. I'm starting to worry that I am surgically created bulimic :)

    Really looking for advice here

I am sorry but it just takes time. I remember being where you're at. I could only eat 2 bites at first for weeks. I had to supplement with Protein drinks for a long time until I could increase my bites. One thing that worked for me was to put chicken into my little mini blender so that it was like a paste and used miracle whip light. 2 bites at first, and gradually moved to 3 bites, etc. Think applesauce consistency. Chili may still just be too bulky for you right now.

  6. I just started eating foods two weeks ago after a plication and have gotten sick twice. trying to figure out why ... the first time I had a few bites of m. potatoes but then forgot and drank a few sips of Water. Major sliming episode

then today I had only 3-4 bites of mac and cheese and same thing happened although less extreme.

Both time I was in a car shortly after eating at restaurants and wonder if that caused it.

Just getting a tad frustrated as I don't want to get malnourished and everyday life is tough when you are afraid to eat at work, in public etc.

I didn't even know plication patients got sick or slimed?

    Any thoughts?

    deb

  7. I'm having the same issue and it is really getting frustrating. Today we were driving back to the office after a business lunch (I only had 3-4 bites of Mac and cheese as I won't eat anything really solid out in public yet for fear). I hope I get this thing figured out soon.

Interesting topic, vomiting. I'm 5 1/2 weeks post op and right after surgery I was vomiting a lot. It has slowed down considerably. I still find if I eat too much after about a half hour to an hour I will vomit. It only happens about once a week now. I find it is hard to read my new stomach. Sometimes I feel hungry right after eating. I know I am full but have the hunger sensation. There seems to be no pattern to it. Other times I just feel full, no problem. I do hope I get this figured out. I always want to eat more than I should so that is something I need to deal with mentally. That small portion of food on the plate seems too small. My mind says, oh, you need more food than that! It's a mental game I know. I figure with time I'll get it.

  8. Oh, I got sick today. Won't be doing that again anytime soon. I ate abotu 10 McD's fries from the kids meals and then about 5 minutes later had a few sips of ice Water. Stomach felt full and hurt but I have had that before. However, about 5-10 minute slater, I dry heave a few times and still felt no better. I then felt this slick stuff in the back of my throat - gross - that continued off and on for about 15 minutes. Then it all came up ... tons of slimy mucos and the fries. I guess I have been slimed.

Just trying to figure out if it was bec I added Water on top of the food or because I ate too much. Any thoughts?

Thanks, that's very encouraging. I started solid food on Fri. and have noticed somewhat of a difference.

  9. Do sleeve plications risk leeks like VSG since there is no cut?

You're going to "feel fine" because all the nerves in your stomach have been cut so you won't feel much of anything. The big concern is letting your staple line heal. food can get stuck in the staple line, you can stress out the staple line, and it's just not good all around. The liquid diet is not in place to maximize weight loss. It's there to protect our staple lines while they heal. You're at highest risk within the first few weeks of surgery, and believe me, leaks suck. I had one at no fault of my own. Recovery was hell, and it just isn't worth it. Stick with your dietary guidelines it'll help with establishing some good habits for the future, and it'll allow your stomach to heal properly. For the next few weeks, eating tiny portions will be easier. When you further out, you'll be able to eat more, and if you don't change those habits now, getting goal, and maintaining your weight loss will prove difficult.

Not only are you risking a leak, behavior modification, and changing habits is the key to success with an WLS. The sleeve is only going to do so much for you. The rest is on us to make the best decisions on what we put in our mouths.

  10. WOW - I'm 10 days out and can't wait. For some reason, I am craving SPICY which I am not sure I will ever be able to eat again since I can't drink while eating to put out the fire ... any suggestions?

Never had the chilli at chilli's. But, yes my nutritionist rec. wendy's chilli too. I have been on their website and also have the stats down in my food journal. And for most of us and how we think... driving through the fast food drivethru and coming out with something healthy, lower calorie and full of Protein.. it's just a good feeling, like hey I can go to Wendy's drive thru and make a good choice and feel good and be satisfied. Such a mind game, I know for me. I haven't tried it yet, only 2 weeks post-op tomorrow and barely able to handle a scrambled egg, yogurt or pudding! But I'm looking forward to it being one of my go to lunches soon enough!

  11. It seems every dr is all over the map on how soon you can have non-liquid foods post op. I am only 10 days out but for the last 3 days, I have had 3-4 bites of "mushy" food, once or twice a day. The little bit of food in my stomach actually makes it feel more settled. I've always been that way - all liquid and I feel queasy.

Now I'm worrying maybe I better back off. I didn't get surgery to ruin it all. Then I noticed some drs, let their patients eat after a week or so.

Can anyone explain the different rules of thought and reasoning behind them?

    I had sleeve plication ...

    Deb

  12. I saw the comments about straws on the cabonation page. My Dr never mentioned that - what is that about.

My Dr essentially told me to eat twice as much Protein as anything else but to eat whatever I want. Choose healthy foods MOST of the time so I stay nutriitionally balanced.

  13. How did you do? he did mine 5 days ago and today I felt almost normal. YEAH!

Tomorrow is my big day!! I'm getting Sleeve Plication with Dr. Ortiz at the Obesity Control Center in TJ. I have gone back and forth with Sleeve Plication versus Sleeve Gastrectomy and unless something changes after pre-ops in the morning, I will be getting the plication. I am a little nervous but I've done my research and I feel confident with Dr. Ortiz and his team:)

  14. I had a plication with Dr Ortiz in TJ last week. The first one was done in 2007 and many predict it will virtually replace bands in about 5 years. We will see. I feel great - 5 days out. No pain from surgery. Pain from gas and reflux. I can eat about /2 cup of liquid Soup and them am FULL. As someone said, feels like I ate T-giving dinner. The sweeling will go down tho and I should be able to eat 4-6 ozs a meal. I didn't want to risk slips and erosions as well as have to deal with fills. I hope it works. Didn't undergo major surgery for nothing :)

I am wondering is there any one hear that has had the Plication Surgery when it first came out around may? If so how much weight have you lost?

Could you give us a update?

    Lisa~

  15. I'm only 4 days out and am having the same issues. No pain from the incisions except when I vomit which has been often - although so far only once today (it is 10:30 am).

It is gas and acid reflux. Only time and meds will help. Warm tea stayed down this am - about 5-6 sips. I have had to sleep almost sitting up; otherwise the reflux gets much worse. Hubby is out getting my children's tagament now in hopes of keeping that down. I have a real texture, taste thing so anything I tried to breakup and take made me gag. walking doe s help too - you get the hsarp pains of another bubble being broken up. They pump your stomach full of gas during the surgery so they can get a better view of things.

Being only 4 days out, I am hoping I did the right thing. I went for a band and was concerned about slips and erosions. hate surgerys - get really sick form anesthia so didn't want to risk a second surgery. switched to plication at the last minute. Sure hope I didn't act hasty.

oh yeah, if you have glue and not stiches DONT use a heating pad on your stomach but you can rest against one on your back which feels nice.

I'm so glad to have found this group. Was starting to panic.
