  1. Hate to tell you, but that is accurate. Mine was 7-something, as well. I can't recall exactly what the insurance paid, but it seems like it was in the 5,000 neighborhood. It can be worse, though, my son is an insomniac and a pediatric sleep study is 10,500. Thank heavens for insurance!
  2. Ugh! Actually I'm not hungry it's just this headache!

How are you doing? Are you feeling more yourself?

  3. I just began the pre-op, liquid diet today and have a horrendous headache! I'm not hungry and I still had plenty of caffeine this morning. Anyone else have this problem and how long does it last?

    Full Liquids Question

My surgery is scheduled for a week from tomorrow (12/28)! My surgeon has me on the liquid diet for a week pre-op. In preparation I bought a Magic Bullet today and had a question about smoothies: are they okay while on the full-liquid diet post op? I know that I can have them during the pre-op diet, but was curious if they would be okay post op. I'm terrified of messing up the staple line and developing complications, so don't want to do anything that could be a problem. Thanks all!

    3 stone down pics!

    WOW! You look fabulous!
  8. I know!! I start the liquid diet tomorrow, which I think may make it real. You know, it takes so long from when you start until when you have surgery, it's almost surreal. Have my protein and vitamins ready, bought a Magic Bullet today at Kohl's, now just looking up protein shake recipes.

  9. Hey Becca,

I'm going back to school on Monday. Kids return on Tuesday. Fortunately, it's a short week. The week following is final exams, so I only have 3 classes that whole next week. How long are you taking off?

  10. Glad you're home and feeling well!

  11. Just wanted to see if you were home and okay!

    ? for Dr. Nick's patients....

I'm using Dr. Barker and having surgery 3 weeks from today! My out of pocket is 2,000 in addition to the 500 deductible. I've met the deductible and 1/2 the out of pocket. Thus, when I went for my final consult last week I was expecting to be told that I would owe 1,000; however, they said that it was only 500. Mine is due two weeks before the surgery. Hope this helps, but it may depend on both your insurance policy as well as your surgeon's payment policy.

    17 weeks and....

Amazing! Congratulations and keep at it!

    Fab 40's shout out

I'm 43 years old, divorced forever, and have a brilliant 15 year old son. My sleeve is scheduled for 12/28 and cannot wait! Hoping to have a much healthier lifestyle by my birthday in July.

    Pre-Op Weight Gain?

Thanks, April! I'm so glad that I'm not the only one. I really want to do everything correctly, both to lose weight and to have a healthy, successful surgery. It just scared me a little that I've been eating so compulsively. Good luck on Wednesday!!

Well, I'm 5'9 & 230. So, the bypass wasn't a consideration for me---no interest in the malabsorption & was afraid of 100+ pounds. 95 is my goal, but haven't been 135 in years, may look better at 145 at 43! I was considering the lap band & my surgeon & his internist really think the sleeve is a better option. Once I started reading about the complications with bands & saw how many revisions were done, it seemed like a no brainer!

Yes, I was approved for the VSG. NO problems at all with the insurance and I was a borderline case! From what I've read on this board, though, it all comes down to your insurance carrier and what your company has chosen. The very nice lady at BCBS told me that while Blue Cross normally denies, TRS opted to include bariatric surgery. Good luck!
  22. Angela, Great post and so true! How many times have I thought NEXT Christmas I'll be able to wear my skinny jeans? Good luck to you next week! Glad you are doing well and have so little pain, Klus! My date is 12/28 and the pain is one of my biggest fears!

    So excited :)

Congratulations on starting your journey! I hope it all goes as easily for you as it has for me, I began the process in September and have my surgery date set for December 28th! It has actually been quite painless and the information on the boards has been wonderful Good luck to you!
  24. Hawk, I'm using Dr. Barker in Dallas. He seems very capable, if a bit on the brusque side! When it's all said and done, though, I'd rather have a great surgeon with a so-so personality than the other way around! His office is VERY busy. While I have never had to spend the hours waiting that some have, my surgery had to be scheduled 5 weeks out---12/29! I do have insurance that will cover WLS so not up on his pricing, but I would definitely check him out.
