Did anyone else gain the first days post-op?
I weighed 8.5 pounds more two days after surgery than I did on the day of surgery! I guess I'd had lots of IV fluids and some swelling. Was a little disheartened at first, until I found out it was not out of the ordinary.

I'm craving roasted vegetables
I'm about two weeks out from surgery and cravings and hunger have been minimal. But yesterday I had to take a group of people to lunch at a buffet. This was the first time I was kind of envious and sad. Fried shrimp and fried catfish and jambalaya and shrimp fettuccine. And liver & onions! I know most people hate it, but I'm not one of them. Oh and this place makes huge, but very light and buttery dinner rolls. I listened as everyone else oohed and aahed over the bread and butter. Watched as they went back for second plates of their favorites and tried to figure out the recipe for the catfish dipping sauce. Sigh. My cup of gumbo without rice was tasty, though, and I did get full. Did my hunger hormones not get removed?

Stalling so soon????
I'm only two weeks out (tomorrow) and I've been stalled for days. My ticker isn't even accurate, I stalled at 12 pounds for a few days, lost 3 more pounds on the scale one day, and the next day was back to only a 12 pound loss. Haven't had the energy to change my ticker. I know I'm not eating too much. I'm probably not eating enough. Worse than the stall is the lack of energy. A full day of work is really killing me. I'm sad.

Thank you.

NSV - Sweater from 1982!
Is there a glossary for terms that are used here? I keep seeing NSV but can't seem to figure out the meaning, other than that it's a good thing.

crockpot chicken
This looks great. I might swap the corn for a second kind of bean. Like maybe black beans and pinto beans. What do you think?

Support from Wife?
My husband became supportive when I brought up the fact that my health would greatly improve. Prior to that, he was noncommital. He's seen how many times I've struggled with dieting and he did understand that this might be my last great hope. He hasn't had to struggle with his weight, although he's recently developed a gut. I hope she changes her mind. The support of my husband and son have been very important to me. I offer my sincere support to you.

I smell funny.
I'm starting to smell like myself again! I really think it had to do with the surgery/anesthesia.

Roasted Cauliflower Soup
Thanks for the absolution! My pre-op diet was 2 weeks and the cauliflower debacle was the first night. I was good for the rest of the time!

Roasted Cauliflower Soup
OK, I must confess. The first time I was going to make this soup, on the first night of my pre-op diet, I ended up eating all of the cauliflower and had nothing left to make soup. If you take ONE tiny bite, you're gone. I was afraid to try again, but about a week later, I did it and made sure every morsel went into the soup. Can someone give me absolution? My doctor said my liver was not an issue during my surgery.

Thanks for the advice. Much appreciated.

Decisions, decisions
My insurance required a 5 year documented weight history from a doctor. I have regular yearly gyno appts, but there were two times in that five years that I refused to get on the scale! Lesson learned. Anyway, I managed to find one more year with an appointment I'd had at my internist's office. I presented insurance with as much information as I could, and in the end, I was approved. The office coordinator said that my weight and bmi alone would probably qualify me. Anyway, give 'em what you have and hope for the best! Good luck.

I smell funny.
I'm not really drinking enough of anything. Isopure, Carnation Instant Breakfast. Sigh. I'm not doing a very good job of this.

I smell funny.
I've been in ketosis before, and it's not that smell. Could it have something to do with the anesthesia? It's almost a sweet smell (but not one I want).

I smell funny.
I haven't seen this addressed, but maybe I've overlooked it. Ever since my surgery last week, I've noticed an odor. Let me be specific, and sorry if it's TMI, but when I sit down on the toilet, there is a smell wafting from me that I've never smelled before. I'm showering and cleaning all parts of me, so it's not from poor hygiene. Did anyone else experience this?

18 hours post op - photos
I have bruises everywhere I was touched, but the worst ones are where the blood pressure cuff went. I've been getting cuff bruises for years so that's not new. The strangest is a bruise on one of my breasts. Huh?

My own "What have I done?" moment has come.. please help
With a night like that, it's no wonder you're questioning everything! Get some rest, sweetie. Just think how much better we'll feel in two weeks!

My own "What have I done?" moment has come.. please help
I'm 6 days out and have similar feelings. Reading this thread made me cry. I'm overwhelmed by trying to get all of this Protein down. I'm afraid of the Protein powder so I've been drinking Isopure. I'm not getting enough protein, but I'm doing a little better each day. The schedule of drinking and eating just doesn't make sense to me. In addition, I have work to return to on Monday. My surgery timing was poor as far as work is concerned, but it was either now or November and I didn't want to wait. I don't know how I'll survive doing everything I need to do next week AND keep track of eating and drinking. Anxiety level: HIGH.

How long did you stay in the hospital?
In at 5:30 am on Thursday, Sept. 9th, out at 1:30 pm on Friday, Sept. 10. This was what I expected.

September sleevers wanted!
I was told during the clear liquid and full liquid stages, as long as they are no sugar added fruit juices (and if cranberry, diet cranberry) I could have them. Considering that I consumed about 12 oz yesterday and two 4 oz sf jello cups in total for the day, I don't think I have to worry about the calories yet. Today, I'm really trying to work on this giant Isopur, which has 40 grams of protein, but it's slow going. I thought I'd be much better at this. But I have not lost my determination, determined1!

Full liquid stage--day 3-13 post-op
So I can have clam chowder in post-op full liquid stage if I liquify it?

what do you wish you knew before hand
My boss had the surgery in July, and she also had a hernia repair. It was noticed in the pre-op upper GI.

September sleevers wanted!
determined1, today I've had 2 4 oz cups of sf jello, 4 oz of fruit juice, and 2 oz. of broth. I had much less yesterday. I know I need to take in more, and I'm working on it.

September sleevers wanted!
I was sleeved on Thursday, Sept. 9th, as well. I'm feeling very good today, and more confident about having done this. But I haven't lost weight yet, and that is discouraging. In fact, I weigh more than I did on the day of surgery. How is that possible, when I've barely ingested any calories? My husband says it's probably swelling and stuff from the surgery, but determined1 has lost 10 pounds! (Is there a forum for telling you how to get your ticker into your posts?)

Roasted Cauliflower Soup
I made a roasted cauliflower Soup for my pre-op full liquid diet, although some might think it is more appropriate for another stage. Thinly slice a head of cauliflower into lacy fan like pieces. Some will be large and some will be small. Toss in a small amount of olive oil and spread out on a cookie sheet. (A large head might require two cookie sheets. Cauliflower will shrink SIGNIFICANTLY as it roasts, so if you season it ahead of time, it might end up being too highly seasoned after shrinkage.) Roast at 375 for an hour, or until cauliflower is browned. Don't be afraid to let it get good and brown, the caramelization is where the delicious flavor develops. While that's roasting, saute some chopped onion in a tiny bit of oil until it gets good and brown, too. Pour in a 32 oz carton of chicken stock (or broth) and a cup of skim milk (give or take), heating on low. When the cauliflower is done, toss it into the soup and let is simmer (very slow simmer) for a few minutes. Season to taste (I use Tony Chachere's seasoning blend). Now it's time to put it into the blender until it's creamy and smooth. Put it back in the pot and add a handful of grated sharp cheddar. If it's too thick, you can thin it with either more chicken stock or more skim milk. The soup is even better the second and third day!
