    Bloody Nose

blood thinner? Did you get a blood thinner during surgery? I was still shooting myself with shots of lovenox two days ago, I had to be on a blood thinner for 10 days post-op. It's to prevent blood clots. Maybe that had to do with it?

    Itching!!

oh yeah I had some redness and rash type thing from certain tape. I bought something called comfort tape.. I think that's it... just in the aisle at the grocery store, and it's like a mesh fabric tape. Much better for me. I'm down to just a small bandage over the hole where my drain was. (eek!) but yeah I couldn't stand that other tape. They gave me nylon and plastic. The plastic worked but gave me irritation. The nylon didn't bother me, but didn't work! lol...

    I'm offically sleeved

Yay!!!! Congrats on feeling so good!
  4. good idea. I bought a big bag of potatoes to make a broccoli/potato soup I have a great recipe for. Got me through after my lapband surgery. I think it would be good for now too. I will try mashed potatoes in a few days.. with the real thing. Not the box. I have to say the potato buds were surprisingly good. I used to turn my nose up to boxed mashed! lol... in a pinch.. not bad.

    coffee ???

I feel not in the mood today for coffee. Interesting how I used to have to have it asap after waking up in the morning. I agree about feeling cleansed and wanting to stay feeling so good, not bogging myself down with a lot of fats, sugars, caffeine. Wonder if I'll feel the same way when it's time to take a drink of nice chianti?
  6. thanks guys... I walked around a bit and folded some laundry. the bad feeling did pass after an hour or two, but even going to bed, I was just not feeling super comfortable. I will wait on mashed potatoes a few days to try again, and I will make them milkier and smoother. This morning I'll stick to a shake for Breakfast. Feeling good today and hungry... AND I HIT 20 LBS DOWN ON THE SCALE!!!!!!!!!!!!! (so much for me staying off the scale a while.... lol....)

    Magic Bullet

get it girls. it's cheap enough that even if you don't like it... not a huge waste of purchase. it IS loud, like a blender or something, but it whips up your shake in 10 seconds. If you add ice, you'll hear the ice being chopped up, and that will be loud. no biggie though, don't worry. my biggest complaint is I have a hard time unscrewing it after mixing! anyone have a tip? I screw it on nice and tight so it doesn't leak, but then when it's done, I can't get it off! lol! I have one of those rubber gripper things to help open jars, and I usually have to use that. i'm making my first chocolate protein shake this morning for breakfast in my mb!

    Itching!!

yeah! I try to just scratch around it. I'm too scared to remove any steristrip or scratch right on the incision yikes. Around my one big incision, I bruised horribly, I mean so dark purple its almost black. My nurse told me to break open a vitamin E gelpill and rub it on there. I have heard of that before. I went ahead and got some and am trying it. My stomach has looked like a warzone with all the bruises! I was on 10 days post-op lovenox shots in the belly, so I have little (and some big) bruises all over my lower belly "roll" lol. Plus my incisions, plus the bruising around those. Oh yeah and a big hole where the drain was. Warzone.. I'm telling ya. Did you guys all take pics of your bellies as you were healing? I've been taking pics, though I don't know if I'll ever show anyone. lol...

    Slightly Sad

Melissa, I was the SAME way, and yes it went away. I remember the first night I slept 5 straight hours! Then same the next night, then 6, then last night I slept a full night. Beginning was awful. Day 3.. hmmm that was my first day home from hospital. I slept an hour, woke up, slept an hour, woke up. Awful. Then the next day, I slept 3 hours, woke up for a pain pill, slept 3 hours, etc.. gets better and better I promise.

    September sleevers wanted!

Thanks girls!! Good luck with getting out of that stall. Hate those. I'm going to go back and read that article. Thanks! Yes, got the drain out yesterday at my post-op appt. That was Day 10. I KNOW! Everyone else I've read has it 3 days, 6 days, 5 days... weren't I lucky! Getting that thing removed was about the freakiest thing EVER. Nothing like feeling tubing moving through your insides! EEEK! I'm shivering just thinking about it. LOL! Got cleared to move on to purees/stage 2... so I stocked up on creamy yogurts, creamy soups, puddings, etc.... also mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs, etc. I'm just excited for variety. Today I tried cream of wheat.. didn't really like it. (I'm an oatmeal girl) and I really couldn't even eat the 1/4 cup I scooped out for myself. For lunch I heated up one of the Campbell's soup at hand micro. creamy tomoato soups. Love those. Used to be able to gulp it down in 2 minutes, voila lunch over. I started sipping, and while it was hearty and delicious... I got so full and even took one sip too much and felt uncomfortable. It's a little over halfway done. Just sat it on the counter and walked away. Weird. I guess I'll be wasting a lot of food. Better down the drain than turning into fat on my body, I say. So yes, taking it slow and being super careful. I am just ecstatic and ready to take this thing and go!!!!! Good job everyone! Check in! Only one more day of September left, any surgeries tomorrow?

    Young Mommies Band to Sleeve

Good for you Becca!!! I cannot WAIT for one of my kiddies to hug me and wrap their arms entirely around me!!!
  12. How many kiddos do you girls have? Extra challenges recovering from something like this with little dependent kids at home wanting hugs. My little guy is so adorable, he makes a huge deal of kissing my hand!! He's like Mommy I'm going to put a million kisses on your hand so I don't hurt your belly! So then he's attacking my hand, kissing it. So sweet. I didn't have the heart to tell him that was my IV hand and it hurt like hell. lol.... My kids are 7 and 4. Oldest is a girl, youngest a boy. I went through an appendectomy when she was 6 months. Tough. I refused to rest and recover then and insisted on not slowing down. Then I went through having a new baby with a toddler around... tough, but I think you kinda have to adjust and let the older one learn to do some things on their own! lol! Then going through lapband last summer. I think even a year ago I notice a difference in their independence. They are so much able to do more this time around, not so needy of me. I still have the mommy guilt, but I am not letting it bring me down. I think I'll always have it for some reason!! But they are doing okay. My daughter always wants to see my belly and wants me to explain things to her. She's so serious. She'll be my doctor some day. Little guy like I said just is lovable and doesn't want his mommy to hurt. My daughter keeps saying.. mommy you are going to get so healthy and shrink up just like me and then we're going to be able to be healthy as a family and do things together. She GETS IT!!! Check in mommies!

    Slightly Sad

I keep telling myself that there is nothing I enjoy more than seeing that scale go down, and feeling my clothes loose and seeing myself in the mirror. NOTHING. I agree.. I just had one of my favorites... creamy tomato Soup... couldn't even finish it and it even tasted kinda different. I was like eh.. But I don't care! I'm glad! I want this! And I'd give up food for all of the other positive things that are going to come from my weightloss. I know I'll have a low moment, but I am going to try to remember these feelings when that happens. Try to find a way to celebrate you weight loss! you've done great so far! Facial? Pedicure? Something nonfood! Good luck
  15. Okay at my appt. yesterday I asked if I needed a B12 supplement, he said no. I asked if I needed Calcium? he said did you take one before? I said no. So he said no. I think as a woman, I probably DO need one, but I guess I'd have to have a bone scan and detemine that through my primary physician. He also said not to worry about this. In my blood test that I guess they will do, they will check all levels and see if there's anything I'm in need of. For now, I'm on just a multivitamin. Interesting all the different things from different doctors!

    3 days post-op

I could have written that. I also couldn't pee.. from the anesthesia. So, I had to be straight-cathed TWICE just so I could pee. Add that to all of that unpleasant. Sounds similar to yours actually. On wednesday when I got home, I went right into my bed. I of course couldn't get comfy, and I was crazy restless, just walkin from the chair to the bed, to the other chair, didn't iknow what to do with myself. Slept horrible the first night. On Thursday, I took a shower. From then on... it got better. Started sipping. Starting Protein shot over ice mixed with lemonade, sipping sipping tiny sips to get it in. Took a nap or two, rested. Friday tons better, Saturday, SUnday, etc, etc... now I'm on Day 11 and I cannot BELIEVE the difference. Personally.. . people who have it on a Friday and go to work on a Monday? No way. REally? I don't believe it, and that sure as hell couldn't have been me. I wish you an easy night tonight and I hope you continue to feel better and better. Sip slowly. Just pour a protein shot into something tolerable (crystal light lemonade helped me) and keep sipping it. Good luck and feel better! (Man a week ago.. I was on here begging for people to help me feel better, now I'm wishing other new post-ops that! I can't believe how far I've come, and you won't believe it either!)

    coffee ???

I used to drink one cup of coffee in the morning. I stopped of course to prepare for surgery and also the clear liquid stage post-op. I was cleared to move onto to all liquids and purees yesterday, so of course I asked about coffee. I decided to go to decaf, because I am feeling so good with all the crap (sugar, fat, alcohol, caffeine) out of my system, I figure why start up again? So I'm doing 1 cup of decaf in the morning. I have a Keurig, so I am using the breakfast blend decap. I use sugar free Coffeemate french vanilla from the dairy aisle. I also put in 1/2 scoop of unflavored unjury whey Protein. This gives me an extra 10 grams of protein. I had my first cup this morning.. yum! Missed it! It took me so long though, sipping and feeling full.. I had to stop before I finished it. ah well... Good luck!
  18. Good morning everyone! Wow, I sleep better and better every night. What a relief.. getting some REAL sleep back in my life. Today's my visit to the surgeon for 1st check-up since leaving hospital. Getting JP drain out.. thank GOD! I have my little list of questions. Feeling pretty good. How's everyone? How many days out are you now, and what are you eating? I'm still on Clear liquids for a few more days. Started to get antsy last night and officially starting seeking out new things I could have.... trying to be patient! I have lost 16 lbs. since surgery! Yes! This is Day 10 for me. Can't believe it's behind me! When's everyone see their surgeon again post-op?

    post-op appt. today

thanks! I have read a few of your other posts. I say just take it slooooooow and easy. I was cleared to move on to purees, so I am VERY excited about that. I enjoyed 3oz of vanilla yogurt earlier and just finished the other 3oz. THRILLED to be trying new varieties, but I am going to be very cautious. He took the drain out.... OMG freakiest weirdest feeling ever. All seems good. I go back in another week. Down 13 pounds on his scale!! yahoo!

    egg drop soup okay?

I am Day 10 today and at my appt. was cleared to move onto this stage as well. They call it the "puree" stage. Smooth puree. Cream of wheat, pudding, yogurt (with no chunks of fruit), scrambled eggs, mashed potato... same thing! We went right to the grocery store. I had a half a vanilla yogurt on the way home (got full) and it was the best vanilla yogurt I've eaten EVER! LOL! 10 days of chicken broth and overly sweet protein shots??? Ahhh!
  21. Anyone want to share how they're doing a few days out? My surgery was Monday. I feel like I have been hit by a truck! Can't get over the bruising on my belly. I tend to feel restless, like I want to wander around now knowing what to do with myself. This chair, that chair, walking, bathroom, bed. I took a shower today, and that was really helpful in my overall feeling. How are you doing? I posted about sleeping, and someone said I won't get over how much better I'll be feeling. When? In a few days? I can't imagine it, but I know I'll get there! Emotionally I'm very excited to start my new healthy life of eating less. Fornow, I'm sipping broth and juice and protein stuff. Hope everone is doing okay! Sorry about my typos.

    Magic Bullet

Well Dave, look at it this way. You can take it to work, traveling, inlaws house, wherever! It's very portable and small and easy to pack up and go... take your protein powder, a thing of milk, and you at least have protein shakes to fall back on if you're stuck. Have fun using it!

    Is this heartburn?

I was getting pepcid through my IV and confused about why. I'm going to ask him today at my appt. if I should be taking something regularly. I plan on starting back on my creamy tomato Soup on Sunday, and I don't want any issues! I hope you got some sleep and felt better!
  24. oregon.. i just posted a thread about that last night! funny! yeah... its nice to feel like we're actually eating "real" food!
