  1. Stay off the scale! That is my advice. I'm 3 weeks out.. lost a huge amount the first 2 weeks, then kinda stayed the same for the 3rd week. It was frustrating, yes. But now.. I'm just focusing on tracking what I'm eating, counting my calories and Protein, making sure I get enough of everything I need IN... and I'll get on the scale in a few days, or maybe next week. Whatever! This is big for me too. I would usually get on the scale every day, morning and night, before shower and after a shower, etc... Good luck! Chin up! Stay positive!
  2. Hope you're feeling better after your day. I think you have a lot of great replies. My input.. I gave up soda a long long time ago. I like saying.. well we don't keep soda in the house, so bring your own if you want it (to family/friends coming over.) I like that my children don't like soda. We are all off soda! I say cut out the soda is #1, and after reading your post, that was my first reaction... that the worst thing was the soda. And yeah, might help to say no to all chips too! I am trying to cut out chips alltogether. After not having them for so long, I'm hoping they taste too salty and greasy and fatty for me. At least that's what I'm hoping! I'm still early out..... Good luck!
  3. I am still laughing, imagining a banana with boobs! lol....

    Extubation

I have no memory of being extubated either.. but thanks for the explanation! Now I know why I had that blister on my lip for 3 days after surgery!! Good Luck Amber!!! Can't wait to see you in the "post-op" forum! Get your rest!
  5. Awesome!! I'm also excited that I might be able to have pizza in a month! lol.... (your surgery was about a month before mine) Good for you! And Tiff.... I hear ya with the Mexican food....
  6. Great job everyone!!! Diva.. you don't know how glad I am to hear you say that week 3 and week 4 are so different. (now that I am officially starting week 4!!) lol..... I sure hope I can report back a week from now that I am eating similar things as you. I need to keep my Protein up and get my calories in and start moving to real food!!!

    3 days post-op vsg

congratulations!!!! can't believe you came to the computer at 3 days out. On my 3rd day I was a mess! LOL! Good luck with this first phase of things!
  8. diva, you remind me of me. I am desperately seeking info on how I'm going to feel/be a year from now after this awful beginning phase is over!!! LOL!! Thanks for asking the questions I've been thinking about!
  9. Thank you guys so much for the tips. I will try the ricotta/sauce thing.. in fact I have those ingredients here. I will try the tuna now too.. hopefully I'll be ready for that. I WISH I liked cottage cheese. I absolutely hate it. My Protein powder is unjury, but I didn't know if there was another brand that has more protein per scoop? 27g is pretty good. Unjury is 20g. Cheri... what brand do you use, and how is the taste? I even froze milk into ice cubes, so I can get the added protein from milk ice cubes, instead of regular Water ice cubes. My goal is 60g per day. Is that a good goal? How about you guys? If I try for 50g, do you think it would matter? lol.... I am terrified of my hair falling out!!!
  10. Don't forget to check in for Monday/today in the monthly support groups!!
  11. Hi Lab!! I love our thread titles! We had the Party is On... now we have Sizzling Sept.... LOVE IT! Thanks for taking charge!! Well I am exactly 3 weeks post-op and still can't believe I did this. lol! My ticker weight reflects my weight loss since 6/29/09 which was the day of my lapband surgery. Gained mostly all of my weight back by the time I had sleeve surgery. So I am 20lbs. down since sleeve surgery 3 weeks ago, but 22lbs. down since the beginning of this roller coaster. I know it's goofy, but it's important to me to look at it this way. Now... I have also been away all this weekend and not been on a scale in quite a few days. So maybe it's more!!! If my ticker changes tomorrow morning, you'll know it's because I got home and got on the scale. I hope it moved a little! I am struggling to get fluids and Protein in and just posted in the other forum about how to get more protein in a small amount and that tastes good! I made a shake for Breakfast today, but I couldn't finish it. I get full, and I get worried that I'm not taking in enough. Trying to deal with that and get through. ALso on mushy soft foods, but honestly I'm afraid to try anything. Scrambled Egg works well for me too! It's sorta my safe staple! haha... Hope we can stay consistent with checking in on Mondays here, because I need the support big time! On a side note, this experience has changed my marriage for the better. My husband just seems more affectionate, attentive and caring. Wow. He was great during the week of surgery, then he kinda went back to his grumpy self, but not really... being different, hard to explain, but I notice it. I'm trying to make sure I tell him how much it means to me!! Maybe he's getting a mental picture of my hot bod a few months from now? hahaha.. Have a good week!!
  12. I was going to suggest journaling too. Write every single thing down and take a look at how much carbs, how much fat, how much protein of course and calories. Add more water. Good luck. You know you can do it!! Get back into the mindset and remember how you were feeling just before surgery!
  13. I'm still only a few weeks post-op so not sure I can help much. How are you with vegetables? Vegetable soup? Chicken? Salmon? Can you eat soft meats and fishes? (not shellfish) I was thinking if you can get in some meat or fish with vegetables, you'd be good? Not sure, but good luck!
  14. Definitely! Monday check-in sounds great to me. Tomorrow I'll be 3 weeks out. I'm still waiting to feel more comfortable. Still scared to try new foods. I'm away for the weekend w/ inlaws, so I definitely am not trying anything new PLUS my new chili for dinner Friday didn't work out okay. Anyone have some suggestions for me? I've successfully had scrambled egg, yogurt, lipton cup of soup, cream of chicken soup and potatoes.. which are so so for me. I thought Chili was a good step to move to, but i guess I was wrong. Fruits? Has anyone had luck with peaches or pineapple or oranges.. small soft fruits? At 3 weeks out? Or is it too soon still and I'm pushing it?
  15. wow, that's something. sorry about that, i'm sure it was scary! good luck with the ice cream!
  16. Here's a version of the soup. I hope you like it! 1 TB Olive Oil 2 chopped onions 5 or 6 slivered garlic cloves 1 bunch broccoli, chopped up 4 medium all purpose potatoes - peeled and cubed 1/8 tsp nutmeg 5 cups chicken stock (i used swanson natural goodness for lower sodium and fat) 1 cup of 1% milk S&P red pepper flakes 1 handful of 2% shredded cheddar cheese (optional) Heat Oil, add onions, cook 5 minutes. Add garlic, cook 30 seconds. Add broccoli, potatoes, nutmeg & stock. Bring to a boil over moderate heat. Simmer gently, covered 20 minutes. In blender (magic bullet) in batches process until pureed. Return puree to pot, stir in milk, S&P, pepper flakes if you'd like. Set over moderate heat for 5 minutes or heated through. (I let mine cool a bit before processing, so I usually have to heat it back up, which takes a little longer) I add a small bit of shredded cheese to my bowl or mug. One note I made at bottom: make sure broccoli is cooked. I guess my broccoli was undercooked a bit the first time I made it? Not sure. ANyway I hope you like it!
  17. I can't wait to finally be out of this beginning stage!!! Tomorrow is 3 weeks from surgery. It's normal that I still sorta feel YUK right?
  18. Agreed!! My doc moved me on to mushy, and I am moving carefully! Most days I stick with liquids, because I just am not ready. That being said, I AM anxious to just have some normal food again!!!
  19. I really appreciate reading that list! I'm at the beginning too and have a lot more cons right now. But I have hope for the future! Tiff, thanks for the recommendation on OTC meds. I might start taking something myself. Is it okay to self-medicate with an OTC thing? Or should I def. ask my surgeon. I know he would give me something. I don't have symptoms as bad as fleur. I was also curious about something you wrote about "tired of the false hunger." Are you saying the acid reflux makes you think you're hungry? Because it seems at night, after I've had my dinner (whatever that may be) I also feel hungry. But, when I go to have something else to eat, after two bites I feel bad. Could it be I'm having acid reflux and mistaking that for hunger? Interesting. Thanks, you're such a wealth of knowledge! Thanks original poster!
  20. LOL!!! Ahhhh you guys are funny.... Well, I felt better when I woke up this morning and took it real easy today. We're away at the shore for the weekend, (with inlaws) and I had to pack up all of my stuff and bring it. I did a Protein shake for Breakfast, lipton cup of Soup for lunch and a greek yogurt for dinner... lots of sipping in between. I feel pretty good when I have a good day. LOL! My MIL offered me cake three times last night, and today on the beach she offered me a kitkat! She goes, ... can you eat this? I felt like saying.. um.. even if I COULD, you know I'm trying hard to lose weight, why are you offering me a kit kat?? lol.. no clue! I'm not trying anything new until I'm home, so you'll have to wait it out juicymouse!

    Nausea

oh no.. i really hope you feel better and get some answers soon!
  22. diva! don't do the chili yet!!! About 2 hours after this, I was driving my daughter to dance class, and I got this awful feeling like my stomach hated me. And well thank goodness I had a tupperware bowl in the front of the car that I was supposed to be returning to a friend. I'll be buying a replacement for her I think. eek! I know I didn't eat too much or too fast, because the reaction was later when my stomach was obviously trying to digest it and couldn't. I'm going back to broth for the weekend. UGH!
  23. I'm joining the club.. have a lot of these same feelings. Thank GOD it gets better! I'm going to hold you to that!! I feel like I'll never enjoy eating again! I'm happier with an empty stomach, because at least then I don't feel nauseous.

    How much can you eat

I'm about the same time out as you, and I def. don't feel I can eat a lot. For me... I feel nausea, and two times I threw up. I asked myself.. did i eat too much, too fast or the wrong thing? Every time it's a guessing game. My doc told me it would take a lot of time and a lot of trial and error and to just go easy. I make sure to measure out 1/4 cup of food only. I don't trust myself to just eat until I feel full, because I'm afraid it's too late. By the time I feel the too full feeling/nausea, I've already eaten too much. So I am just measuring it out and having it and being done. Hope that helps!

    Recover time after surgery

I think two weeks AT LEAST. Try to get the two weeks. My doc told me 4 weeks off, no discussion. I also had a band removed and the sleeve done. I feel pretty good right now and think I might be able to return to work. But I'm really still exhausted from the surgery. Need sleep! I'm glad I have one more week off. I'm a teacher and need lots of energy for my day!
