    Is this heartburn?

yeah, like acid reflux. you could take pepcid or get on nexium.. but I know people with acid reflux usually try to avoid tomato foods, spicy foods, etc.. I would guess now that we have a small stomach, once it's full (which isn't on much) then the acid production happens more easily and can back up? I mean that happened to me a lot before when I was very overweight and overstuffing myself, lying down too soon, all that stuff... talk to your doc. maybe you could get on nexium or just try to avoid the trigger foods? good luck!
  2. Interesting. I was absolutely NOT interested in the shots, just hearing things about them and generally the disgustingness of how it sounded.. lol. This one was something new, and my bariatric coordinator included a pamphlet in my pre-surgery class packet. So I asked her about this, and she said yes it is whey protein and a good choice. She also had Isopure, but that bottle was 40oz! I MIGHT get that down in a whole day. LOL! So I went to GNC to ask about it, but they didn't have it. Only found it online. I hope it's good and healthy! If not, I only have a week left. I much prefer my powdered unjury whey protein, but it doesn't fall into the clear liquid category. Chocolate shake anyday I'll take! lol.... neat site btw, comparing proteins! thanks!

    High Blood Pressure

I was monitored by my physician. Had an elevated bp at a yearly checkup, so she started seeing me every 3 months to take it, and after a while she said she thought it was time I went on a medication. we tried a few different things until we found one that worked. as far as the sleeve, my surgeon said keep taking it and most likely with weight loss I could come off it. I'll go back to monitoring with my fam. doctor every 3 months and let her handle it. Being on BP medicine was one of the biggest reasons I qualified with my insurance company for surgery.

    Woo Hoo!!

    congratulations bran!!! good going!!!
  5. Hi Dave! I usually follow the helpful links people post like Tiffy and also I read through posts and gather info. It's so amazing how much you can learn from other people!! Love this message board. Good luck with getting your surgery date! Please report back how it went!!!! For me, I am in the 2 weeks of Clear liquids stage right now. Here's what I've learned: First few days/hospital/first day home.. just sip when you can. Try to sip about an oz. or two per hour. Use the tiny little cups in the hospital they give you, and sip sip sip. Goal for first week to gradually add Fluid as you can. Things to sip on: juice, diluted 50/50 with Water, crystal light, water. Once I was home and got through the first days, and found myself able to drink, I gradually increased liquids to 60oz. a day. This is my current goal. I try to jot down in my meal planner the approx. oz. I drink with each thing. Included in that, try to get 40g of Protein. I get this primarily from protein shots. Two I found that are tolerable are Healthy Shots by Hormel. Only available online at GNC site, or you can get them a bit cheaper on the Hormel site. Let me know I can post it for you. It's 2.5 oz, so not much but packs 25g of protein in it. Peach flavored.. not great tasting, gotta be honest. BUT I can do it in a juice glass, over ice, diluted with some lemonade or water or something. I sip through it in about an hour and the protein is really helping me with my energy level, I am sure of it. The other type I have is like a bullet.. got it in RiteAid drugstore. Similar to other one.. but there's a fruit punch and a white grape, not So bad.. again, I dilute a little. They are 2.9oz and 25g of protein too. Other things I am having on my clear liquids: chicken broth warmed in micro, crystal light popsicles found them at walmart, sugar free Jello cups, warm decaf green tea with honey, applesauce. I have made up a little meal plan with all of this stuff, getting my protein, staying hydrated, and honestly by 5 days post-op, I was able to do this. In the beginning... no. Even my first day home from hospital, I could barely drink and had no desire. I was afraid of being dehydrated though, so that motivated me to start sipping and keep going. Take small sips and not gulps, or you will feel some pain. GOOD LUCK!
  6. Great topic. OMG I am ALWAYS hot and sweating and uncomfortable. I freeze everyone out in my house and classroom. I have to have my fans running all the time. One of the worst times is in the morning after getting out of the shower. I don't take hot showers at all, but all through doing my hair and makeup and getting ready, I'm sweating and so uncomfortable. I cannot WAIT for this to change. Now it's almost fall, so we're getting into cooler weather, which I love... but I'm anxious to see if there's a difference come Spring/early summer! I would imagine that lugging all this weight around on us of course offers extra insulation??? Be gone I say!!!
  7. I agree too. Maybe keep a journal of what you're eating/drinking and track number of oz. you are getting in of fluids. Also track Protein. I'm only a week out, but my goals are 60oz of fluids and 40g of protein per day. I will increase the protein once I'm eating, but I will always try to have a min. of 60oz. fluids. Hope you feel better!

    September sleevers wanted!

I'm not quite into the mirror yet. I still have this JP drain, with a big bandage over it.. so that alone.. ick, freaks me out. BUT.. I did get on the scale and am down 15 lbs since the night before surgery. GO ME! Considering I'm on an all clear liquid diet, I'm not really surprised though. haha... After Wednesday when this drain comes out, I might start getting dressed and/or looking INTO the mirror! I want to start with pictures too. I have some from a few days ago.. whew they are for the way way way back archives.. lol.

    Cream of Broccoli Potato Soup

I like the Soup at Hand from Campbell's.. Creamy Tomato. 1 minute in the microwave, done. Love it. I would have one of those for lunch before surgery, so if I am able to have that on the liquids phase, I'd be happy. After this clear liquids phase, I think I am most excited about "variety." I'd like to plan several things so I have options. lol!

    When doctor says rest.. REST

I def. have trouble with lifting. Reaching up high and bending/reaching low also. So I told my husband. I'm not reaching high into cabinets, I'm not bending down to empty the bottom part of the dishwasher. And I'm NOT lifting any laundry in or out or anywhere. He is doing it. He's okay w/ it and wants me to rest too, so that's a good thing. I am going to listen to all of you. I'm a teacher, and I have 4 weeks medical leave. Today is the start of week 2. Computer, watch tv, read a book, crosswords! That's going to be it plus a few things I CAN do in between to make me feel productive. The kids are old enough where they really only need "direction" for things.. clearing table after dinner, cleaning up toys, stuff like that. I sure do miss my chitchat time and snuggle time at bedtime though! Take it easy everyone. Even if you're back at work... try to rest when you can.

    When doctor says rest.. REST

oh no! I'm kinda in that situation now. Tomorrow is a week since surgery, so now I'm thinking time to start doing things. But I'm really not ready to be zipping around doing laundry. I can wipe a counter, but leaning bending down and reaching up aren't good. So I'm going to listen to you! Feel better!

    September sleevers wanted!

haha! no, I have dreamed the most bizarre things in the past 5 days!
  13. Through reading here and doing my own thinking, I have decided I'm going to try to avoid the scale. I don't think I even want to put up a ticker. I just think I want to avoid getting into the battle with the scale, seeing a number I want, etc. Back in the old days, we'd go to WW once a week and get on the scale there, and that was how we did it. I don't know if I can stick to this, but I am going to try. Once a week weigh-ins, that's it. Who's with me? Monday morning seems the obvious choice, or a Friday morning. Hmmm...

    Pizza...

I agree.. not a choice for me to be trying TOO early. Hey pizza really can be a healthy food if we made it ourselves with the thin crust and healthy olive oil, veggies, fresh part skim cheese, right? Like they do in Italy? I wonder how many of the Angelo's "specials" my husband and I have ordered and demolished in our lifetimes. You know the type I'm talking about, right? Man... the thought of it now really makes me shake my head.

    Cream of Broccoli Potato Soup

So on stage 2.. tomato soup is okay? I love it and would love to have that to look forward to after these clear liquids. Yeah.. biding my time is a good way to put it, I agree! lol... Erica.. I'm sipping on crystal light, healthy shot protein shots or proasis healthy shots diluted a little as like an all day juice to sip on. I have chicken broth for my "meals." About a 1/2c to 1c. Just warmed up in the microwave. I have found Swanson natural goodness chicken my favorite. Hated the Emeril vege. stock. Emeril Beef was okay. Emerail chicken was good, but I liked the good ole swanson my mom always used, so I am getting that in the cardboard type container. It doesn't have much protein in it though. Monday I'm expecting my unjury.com chicken broth protein to arrive, and I used that before for a chicken soup w 20g of protein in it. I've also moved to jello and popsicles today. Crystal Light popsicles.. my hubby found them at walmart. no sugar at all and good. fills me up.. weird. I couldn't finish a popsicle earlier and had to put it in a dish on the counter. lol. I also had some decaf. green tea w/ honey. That was good. Both are clear liquids. what else? I guess that's it. So exciting huh? ANohter WEEK of this stage for me! How about you?

    Few days out

cool you may have been in the same hospital!?! lol.... My nurse said while 60g of Protein is a good daily measure in general, during these first two weeks, just aim for 40g. So I'm averaging 30-40 a day right now. Not sure how many total ounces of liquid. I've also moved to Jello and popsicles. OMG my husband found crystal light popsicles in walmart. Very good and sugar free. Sorry I may have already mentioned this. lol... ALso.. does anyone still have Fluid in their lungs, like a coughing/wheezing kind of sound? I am trying to deep breathe as much as I can and cough strongly to keep my lungs clear, but it's tough. Would an inhaler help too? ANy thoughts?

    Everyday eating

Good post Mary. I think we all have a little of that feeling. Just curious what really WILL happen if we eat or drink something. I think your scenario is the perfect one though, just proving that you really don't need the soda in your life anyway. And when you really feel like a nice sip.. you can have it, be fine, and then dump the rest. Man, I SO want to get to this feeling in my life with so many foods. If I can have a few bites of birthday cake and dump the rest of the plate, that to me will be the success of my life. I'm always the one at the kids parties trying to get the biggest corner piece and then figuring out how I can sneak another one. Is it really possible that that will change???? Ahhh!!! As for the alcohol, I was thinking I'd be off alcohol for the most part until the holidays maybe? I wonder if the acidity is the reason they say not to start with red wine?

    September sleevers wanted!

Good Luck to all the September Sleevers out there, recovering or preparing. I haven't worn pants since the day I had to put them on to come home from the hospital. I live in nightgowns. I'm so relieved I have the freedom to do that! LOL!! Still healing here and getting better every day. I agree, sleeping is weird. Between the pain jabs here and there and (for me) the coughing and then the thoughts in my mind... it's not easy. I think pain meds whack out your mind a little too. Weird dreams when I DO sleep!!

    Pizza...

I just made my own last week for my husband.. since we had a fresh basil plant. Mmm I used the fresh mozz. too and a little sauce. Really good and thin/crisp. I used a pillsbury pizza dough from the dairy aisle and it was okay. But I'll bet a homemade one is even better. Gonna check it out, thanks!
  21. Thanks for telling me what that meant. haha.. I was going to ask or google. Are there any decent tasting ones you guys can recommend? I'll have to look around at my pharmacy too.

    I'm craving roasted vegetables

Ooh OKay, that's what I was thinking. I'm def. interested in hearing which ones you like when you start, okay? Thanks! Hmmm, you are 5 days ahead of me. So when you are enjoying your campbells healthy request cream of chicken Soup.. I'll still be sipping swanson natural goodness broth. (lol!) I like the double potassium and lower sodium... that sounds perfect for me. I am on high BP meds, and those are two things I always look for. Thanks again! p.s. I have a cream of broccoli soup recipe if anyone is interested. It's tasty and I THINK it's healthy.. doesn't look like it has too many bad things in it, if any.
