    Eating out Post surgery

Even being pre-surgery and can hold my fair share of food I feel gross when I watch Man vs Food. I can't imagine stuffing that much inside your body. I don't know how the host of that show doesn't have a heart attack each episode.
  2. Looking great! Your photos get me so excited for my sleeve day (9/21/2010). Keep up the great work!!!

    Surgery Secrecy

I'm very open about it. I'll tell just about anyone who wants to know about it. I'm not a good "liar" and don't like having to keep up a jig about why I will be rapidly shrinking. I just ask that if folks have negative comments on it to just please keep it to themselves. I don't need any negativity while I am trying to change my life around for the better.
  4. HI I don't have IBS but I do have colitis (which is offers some of the awesome symptoms of IBS). When I had my consult with my surgeon I mentioned the colitis to him to see if it would be an issue with surgery either before, during, after. He basically told me it had no bearing the surgery only affected my stomach not the lower bits. I would think that the VSG would actually help with IBS....I am hoping it helps clear up my colitis issues. Being forced to eat healthy things should help the intestines out a bit. My gastrotoligist (spelling?!) had me cut down on fatty foods while they were trying to diagnose what exactly was wrong with me and said that those heavy fats are really hard on the intestines and cause a lot of the "upset stomach" issues. Don't know if that's any useful info but it's my 2 cents.

    September sleevers wanted!

Determined1, I know how you feel! My date is Sept 21st. I've made my mental plan for August to be my Farwell to food (now I'm not going out and gorging everyday so people don't scold me i'm eating as normal but not beating myself up over having pizza, etc..) and making September 1st be the day I start to ween myself off things and start prepping for food post sleeve. My surgeon said I don't need to do a pre op diet but I think I will put myself on one to start getting ready.

    GREAT VSG Guide!

    Thanks for the link!!
  7. GOOD LUCK! I'm sure you will do great! I still have almost a month till my sleeve and I have the same worries when I'm sitting around thinking about it. I also worry I will be the one person this surgery doesn't work for somehow. :crying:
  8. Here is my 2 cents.... I also began thinking I wanted The Band but after talking to some folks and doing more reading up on it I decided it seemed like a hassle that probably wouldn't give me the results I need. If you get The Band then decide later you want to be sleeved you will probably end up shelling out more money in the long run to go thru 2 self pay surgeries. Defiantly talk to your surgeon about your thoughts on the Sleeve vs Band and get his input for what he/she thinks would work best for your body. With my weight my surgeon seemed very happy when I said immediately I wanted VSG not Band- he must have felt relieved to have been spared trying to convince me VSG was better for my needs. In the end go with your gut *no pun intended* Good luck with your decision!
  9. All I can is AMAZING!!!!! Go you and thanks for all of your helpful and positive posts!!
  10. Congrats on your Sleeve-iversary! Posts like this remind me why I am going to do this and help push my fears to the side.
  11. Congrats! Just think how great it will be when you can start adding in exercise! I can't wait for mine!

    Plantar Fascaitis?

When it is/was at the worst for me it really felt like my foot was being stabbed. I always half expected my shoe to be bloody when I took it off it hurt so bad I would figure this much pain something must be coming out of the foot. Ugh nasty business that plantar!!
  13. Congrats and good luck!! Welcome to the September Sleevers Club

    Plantar Fascaitis?

Hi there. I suffer from this very often. Often when I first wake up or get up from sitting for an extended time my first few steps are excruciating  until it stretches back out. I recommend doing lots of stretching. These stretches are great for it: Plantar Fasciitis Stretching Exercises I stretch it out before I go to bed and when I do I can walk soooo much easier the next morning. Also icing it in the evening if your sitting around watching TV roll a frozen Water bottle under it. And they also say wearing flip flops and other unsupported shoes makes it much worse. I really hope mine goes away after I'm sleeved. I've had it off on for years. Hope this helps.

    Tracking what you eat

Another website I have used is Free Diet Plans at SparkPeople It has TONS of food info pre-programmed in. Down to different brands of the same type of food. Makes it quick and easy and you can also add items to your personal data base (maybe something you cook often at home...just add in the nutrition info once). Also let's you track weight, exercise and calories burned from exercise for your weight, etc etc etc.
  18. Oh this makes me excited! I hope I start sleeping better post-op!! I sometimes get up several times a night- it's so annoying. I will wake up once and go to the bathroom. Take a small sip of water then go back to bed. I will wake up 2 hours later having to pee as if I drank the Hoover Damn....what the heck?! :cursing:Here's to hoping my sleeve will help me sleep better!:thumbup1:
  19. Remember to always weigh yourself around the same time everyday. Since bodies change so much throughout the day and such. (least this is what I have always been told). I think once a week is a good. Make it a Sunday ritual or something like that- if The Biggest Loser were on where I live I would weigh in with them every week like an at home contestant. Haha.

    Question about dating before surgery

I say tell him the truth now. I think it's easier then explaining later when a) your drinking your food and shrinking faster then a person who had "lady surgery". And if he likes you know I don't see why he wouldn't like you after...there will just be less of you. :tongue_smilie: That's what I tell my boyfriend (of 3 yrs) who seems nervous about me having this surgery (he questions how safe it is to remove 85% of ones stomach forever). I just tell him it will make me healthier in the long run so we have more time to spend together and there will just be less of me to nag at him. :lol0:

    What to tell your boss??

I've told my boss and been very open about it with my co-workers (most of which are super mega "omg eat a damn cookie" skinny Taiwanese folks) b/c I'm not good at coming up with a cover story. Haha. And I don't want to feel ashamed anymore or at all. They can't relate to me at all but it's ok. But on the time off issue my surgeon told me one week would be plenty of time (this made me happy...I don't want to use up all my vacation time sitting at home/the hospital haha). I'm a teacher and am on my feet most of the day but I just told my boss she may see me sitting down more in the classroom a little bit more when I come back post op. But in the end you gotta take off what you feel is best for you and your body. If your a slow healer or have a strenuous job go ahead and take the extra time:thumbup1:

    470 lbs Flight Question

I agree with ChiGirl. As soon as you get on snag a flight attendant and tell them you would like a seat extender and your seat number. I'm around 350 and I was able to buckle without but it was sooooooo uncomfortable. I moved to Taiwan about a year ago and it was the first time I broke down and asked for it (20 hours on a plane I was not having the belt dig into my sides for that long). I just tried to seem confident like it wasn't no thing. And definitely get a seat where the arm rest goes up. Then it's like your sitting on a couch with your husband and its so much more comfortable! Good luck with your trip and surgery! This will be the last uncomfortable flight! I'm so looking forward to fitting in the seat easily when I fly back to America to visit!
  24. Oh and I was looking at the website for those Davinci (and Torini) sugar free syrups to add to protein shakes and they some fun flavors like pumpkin pie, peppermint paddy and gingerbread- might make the post surgery holiday season better. While everyone else gorges on pumpkin pie and cookies I have a gingerbread protein shake
