  1. Everyone has given such great advise. I think each of us has had to deal with the questions of who to tell and when. I have a best friend who is 2 years post op with the Lapband, and still hasn't told her MOTHER!!

I found that the first month or so after my surgery was a time of healing, adjustment, and learning how to live with my new sleeve. As with any surgery the first few weeks even months should be a time to be good to you, and to concentrate on you. Several months in--- as you begin to lose the weight you may be ready to shout it from the mountain tops to any and everyone..." I love me sleeve"!!! However I found that in the begining I truly needed that private time with me and my sleeve.

I love the suggestions of blogging (I have been) and directing people at a later date to share in your blogs (already in progress)..

Best of luck to you....And welcome aboard!

  2. I am from Kaiser WLA and I first begin options classes back in 2007 when they were ( I think) 24 weeks long...I lost over 30 lbs by the end of my options class and "OPTED" out of the surgery ~ they weren't doing sleeves then and RYN still seemed so drastic to me.

In 2009 I truly wanted the surgery so I attended a shortened 20 week class...I felt as if I were on punishment taking the class all over and with the same instructor.

Upon completion of my second "tour of duty" I was told there was a 6-8 month wait for surgery at WLA or Harbor City...I just couldn't wait...I chose the Pacific B route which had a 6-8 WEEK wait...I am 4 week out today and I can say my Pacific B experience was the absolute best! I liked that they specialize in Bariatric surgery ~ Kinda like going to Midas muffler for my car cause they do nothing but mufflers....

Good luck to all of you who are waiting. I can honestly say..."I love my sleeve"

  3. Hi all. Today I'm exactly 3 weeks post op. I lost 28 lbs pre-op but I've only lost 12 lbs since surgery; not to mention the scale keeps going up one lb, then down 1. I'm so frustrated!!! I've been reading post after post where people are losing 25 to 30 lbs the first month post op, and here I am with 12. The scale has not moved in a week. Should I be concerned? Also, I am on stage 2 of mushies, and I can eat almost a whole (small) chili from Wendy's. It takes me at least 30 minutes, but I can almost eat the whole thing; and I seem to be hungry quite often. Talk about bummed!!!!!! Has anyone else experienced anything similar to this at all?

I am happy you put up this post. I could have written it myself. I am 3 weeks out yesterday and have only lost 16 lbs...like you, the scale is yoyo'ng up 1 or 2 then back down. I thought I had seen the last of an increase after surgery...

It is taking a while to get the hang of how to get in all of the Protein, then all of your Water, then exercise....each day I try to get at least 2 of them correct. I'm not sure if I am getting in enough Protein. Plus like you mentioned...I am hungry quite often.

This week I made my big pot of homemade chicken Soup trying to get back to what worked for me in the 1st two weeks. I am going to try to consume 70 grams of protein for the next couple of days to see if that is the key.

I know that even on a "bad" day post op I have reduced my caloric intake considerably from what it was pre op. I remember reading about the "stalls" when I was pre op, but I just didn't think it could happen to me. I notice the stalls seem to happen to sleever more so than RNYers

What keeps me going is I haven't seen anyone yet who hasn't lost a considerable amount in the long haul....So my friend...let's ride this out for the long haul!!! Good luck to you this week!!

  4. I should have started my period yesterday. I'm typically every 28 days on the dot and still haven't started. This would be my first period after my sleeve. Is it normal to be late the first period after??? And I'm definitely NOT preggers. What's going on :) Please help!

Great question! I have two friends who had WLS in their late 40's and both say their periods stopped after the surgery..they didn't know if it was just a coinkydink ...I am hoping that will be the case with me ;-) I had one very light one 1 week after surgery...

BTW you are doing a fantastic job on your weightloss girl!!! Keep it up.

  5. Hey guys do the same rules of no eating and drinking together apply to sleevers? I notice that I am able to drink larger "sips" than my lab band or RNY counterparts....Sleevers liquids don't seem to pool in the stomach....but rather slide on through... Do you all eat or drink with 30 minute windows between the two?

    Thanks

  6. It might be best to give your dr's office a call. I was told bruising in legs might be a sign of concern...(possible clotting concern). One little call will put your mind at ease. Don't worry about bugging them...I'm sure they are used to it...then you can rest easy. Hope I wasn't alarming...but I specifically remember them telling me to look for bruises in my legs. Please let us know what they say. The best to you!

  7. Congrats on your surgery date. I am with Kaiser West LA and am thrilled to connect with other Kaiser patients. I wanted my surgery in Harbor City, however I was told there was a 6-8 month wait...This week a member of my options class said she was told have halted any scheduling for Harbor City for a while due to backlog...Happy to hear someone made it.

Kaiser WLA is now using Pacific Bariatrics in San Diego. This was one of the first hospitals they contracted with when they first started the surgeries years ago.

I go tomorrow for my consult with surgeon. Then 21 days after I should be given a surgery date...

Can't wait to share with fellow Kaiser patients!
