    I'm new here

Hi. I'm Angie! I am about six months out from my sleeve and I couldn't be happier. Before my surgery I weighed in at 268 lbs (I'm 5ft 6in) and was miserable! I couldn't even walk upstairs to tuck my kids in without being short of breath and having to stop half way up and I'm only 27!!! I am an RN and work 12 hour shifts on my feet, so the extra weight was not my friend. I developed really bad edema to my feet and legs (I was taking 60mg Lasix three times a day and it wasn't helping!). I was using a CPAP for my sleep apnea and was hypertensive and my Dr kept warning me about my cardio risk b/c our my family hx. I also have PCOS and insulin resistance. Fun Fun, right? NOT! My Mom has had a gastric bypass w/ 2 revisions and now has a band over her bypass and is finally losing weight. My Dad has a bypass and has lost 160 lbs, my Step-Mom has a bypass and has lost 120 lbs. So I thought I would get a bypass, but then my cousin got a sleeve. I had never even heard of it before, but once he told me more, I was definately very interested. So I did some homework and decided on a sleeve. I got my sleeve in Jan by Dr. Umbach in Las Vegas and I am so pleased with their office. They are fantastic and I have already recommended them to several of my friends. So now, six months out, I have normal blood pressure, no swelling in my legs and feet (even after four 12s in a row), no more CPAP, am down 55 lbs and went from a size 22 to a size 16!! :001_tt1::001_tt1: My issues w/ low blood sugar are gone and my PCOS symptoms are pretty much history. So I'm on very happy girl! I'm most happy about setting a good example for my kids and helping to break the chain of obesity that has gripped our family for 3 generations (at least)!!

    I'm new here

KabinKitty, I know what you mean about stressing before a physical! I used to hate going to my annual physical at work b/c I would get the "talk" about my cholesterol, BP, weight, etc, etc, etc! BARF!! I'm a Nurse, for goodness sakes...I KNOW it's not healthy to be overweight. It just kills me that people think that b/c someone is overweight they can say ANYTHING to them. WHAT??? Not. Here's hoping that you get to join the losers' bench really soon! It is such a liberating thing to not have to be tied down to my mask at bedtime. My Husband loves that I don't snore anymore too.

    2 Months Out

Just wanted to give you a big "atta girl". That's so amazing to make so much change in just 2 months isn't it? I can't believe have far I've come in the short time since my sleeve either. I can totally relate to feeling like you have a new lease on life! :lol0:

    Just got sleeved yesterday!!

WTG! Keep us posted on your progress. Welcome to the Losers Bench! BTW, my stomach made all kinds of noises the first couple of days. It always helped me to walk (I think mine was mainly gas, but it was embarrassing anyway). LOL! :lol0:

    I did It !!!! I did it !!!!!

I totally agree! The pain pump was fab! I rarely had to use any of the liquid pain meds (mostly when we were headed home...it was a long flight back to NC). I totally should have sprang for first class. That would have been great! :thumbup1: I :001_wub: Dr. Umbach and his staff! They are the best!:001_tt1:

    Leaving in 2 days....

July 2nd is a great day for surgery...it's my birthday. I'm sure you will do fine, but I totally understand your anxiety. I had my surgery in Las Vegas (from NC) so when I was leaving home I just kept thinking about my kids at home and all the what ifs. But like you, I kept my focus on the positive changes that the surgery was going to bring into our lives and the better example I would be setting for the kids. I want to be a good example and show them that our family hx of obesity isn't a given and that we CAN do things to help ourselves. Your girls are lucky to have a great Mommy and you will be an even better version of yourself after surgery. :laugh0:
  14. :laugh0: Yay!! You will have to keep us posted on how things are going. Best of luck to you!

    Dr. Umbach in Las Vegas?

    My sentiments exactly!

    Dr. Umbach in Las Vegas?

I had my surgery the same day w/ Dr. Umbach! I have nothing but great things to say about them. He was very thorough in his pre and post op exams and spent a good long while with us answering all our questions and making sure we understood everything. I'm an RN myself, and my Dad has had a bypass so we were pretty prepared w/ a list of questions and he was able to answer every one of them w/o any difficulty. We were both completely confident in him and his staff. The two Hollys in his office are great and it was a super awesome experience from start to finish and they have even called me at home (in NC) to check on me and he gave me their cell phone numbers in case I needed anything. You can't beat that! I have had zero problems since surgery and was able to go back to work in 2 weeks after my surgery, even working 12 hour shifts!! So, I definately recommend him and actually have recommended him to several of my friends. HTH!

    VSG Dietary Guidelines

Thanx for the great resource!! I am always on the lookout for more info about dietary guidelines. I am about 6 months out now and I can eat almost anything, except potatoes and bread. I was a total carb-a-holic before my sleeve, but I don't really miss them now...I thought that was going to be the hardest part, but it hasn't even been an issue. I'm so glad to have found this website...I will definately be a regular.
