When Did It Hit You?
It's funny about the sliding scale of clothes sizes, when we were at our biggest it seems like we all had a varitey of sizes in our closets, reflecting past weight losses and gains. Now, I still have a variety of sizes but that is because of the schizophrenia of sizing within the clothing industry. Also, old habits die hard, and when I am at Goodwill and I see a pair of trousers in a size 8 or a pencil skirt in a size 6, and I am able to pour myself into them, I can't help but get them because it is just so tantalizing. So right now I am in a comfortable 14 pants, or 12, one pair of perfectly snug Levi's in a size 10, but I have pants and skirts and dresses in sizes 6-10, hoping, hoping... =)

It's a love/hate relationship with the scale, isn't it! When it is doing what you want it is your besty, when it says something you don't like it is a little @$$%^*!! I have been on a scale boycott for about 2 months now but may get back on it soon, over the weekend I wore my favorite LBD, with a body shaper underneath of course, and both the dress and shaper were a bit loose! I did the introductory free WOD for crossfit and 2 days later I was still so sore it hurt every time I stood up, sat down, or coughed. I'm on to something! =) I have my first official session tonight and am scared and excited. I don't want to look all gym-rat muscle bound, which some of those crossfitters look like, but I am excited about getting really strong and fit. =)

Eating Like Crap When Poor : (
Someone up in the thread mentioned that those who are on a tight budget are often also short on time, which makes eating healthfully doubly difficult. This is so true, I've recently started employing "austerity measures" in my life and when I looked at my account activity for a week where I thought I was being a major frugalista, I still spent an unnecessary $80 - and it was all on food! Granted, about $25 of that was dinner for my boyfriend's birthday so that is arguable but that's still over $50 that didn't have to be spent, dangit!! I did go shopping at the food outlet and spent $48 on a weeks worth of groceries that normally at my expensive organic food co-op would have cost me well over $100, so that's good. I like the axiom, "failing to plan is planning to fail". By taking 3 minutes on a Sunday afternoon to pop a tray of discount chicken pieces into the oven, I have cooked chicken for the week, that can be made into hot or cold salads, sandwiches, soups or just inhaled with some mustard if I'm that tired. Right now I am trying to "shop my pantry" as long as possible before buying groceries, I discovered a box of protein shots, am making protein shakes from the last of the tubs of powder, and will explore some black rice made in chicken stock this weekend.

Fitness Nsv
@ Lissa - you want to talk endorphin high, get a ball like a raquetball or tennis ball or lacrosse ball, lay on top of it so it fits into the soft groove around the inside of your shoulder blade, and starting with your hand down by your hip facing upward, slowly lift your arm in the air and rotate it a single unit until your arm is lying over your head, palm still facing upward. Do it for 2 minutes, which is how long it takes to break down the hardened tissues etc. and it is positively euphoria inducing! ohmygod it is amazing, we did it at the end of crossfit.

Gonna Get To Goal. Wanna Join Me?
If I did crossfit 3X a week I would most definitely see a difference in my body, but the yoga that I get at my gym 2X a week provides a mind/body release that I have come to depend on. Also, as the heat and humidity increase making being outdoors more unbearable, the gym allows me to run and workout in a pleasant environment. However, it would only be for 2 months possibly, that I would be paying for both, maybe I can squeeze the $$ from somewhere else ... eek!

@ Blackberry - lucky, "only" $100 a month, here it is $130 for 10 classes! In order to make real progress I would need to do it at least 2/3X per week, that's like $150 a month! I went to the introduction WOD Tuesday, today is Thursday and I can barely walk! I'm waddling like a cowboy because the muscles in my thighs and behind are so sore! =P I coughed earlier and that hurt too, but I'm going back tomorrow =)

New fitness NSV's - My buddy and I ran for over 3 miles again, she said we were around a 5K. Also, I ran a mile by myself at the gym on the treadmill and it was no big deal, I wasn't even winded and part of it was done on incline! And my third fitness NSV - I did a crossfit class and it was awesome! I wish it wasn't so expensive or I would become an immediate devotee =)

Gonna Get To Goal. Wanna Join Me?
Yeah, I'm just bummed now because it is so expensive, I would have to choose between crossfit and my gym membership, where I get yoga and machines and saunas etc. sigh.

What has two thumbs and just did her first crossfit class? This girl! I was nervous and then all the guys were just RIPPED and drool worthy and then it turns out that the track team of a University was in the class so that was intimidating! But, I survived and it wasn't that bad, of course it was an introduction but still! Sad that it is so expensive, might not be able to do it or might have to choose between just doing that or my full service gym. But I kept up and that is an achievment for sure. =)

How To Stay Satisfied?
Well I don't get hunger pains, it's just that I don't feel full. In the first year I never experienced hunger but I definitely felt full/satisfation/stuffed. Now I still don't feel hunger but neither do I feel satisfaction unless I eat solid pure protein, milk, and nothing else.

Got High At Macy's!
Unfortunately for me the high was brief, It was stunning to find myself in a 12, so cool! But now I've been in a 12 for like 7 months and I'm SO OVER IT, I'm fantasizing about being a single digit size and being able to bring my knee up to my chest in yoga without my gut in the way ...

Got High At Macy's!
The first time I tried on a real dress, a Little Black Dress at that, it was overwhelming, I couldn't believe that was me in the mirror and I just couldn't stop staring, turning this way and that. So high! =) And like with any high, you just want more =P hello motivation! =D

How To Stay Satisfied?
Thanks Yorkie. I was sleeved nearly 2 years ago so I definitely know how to eat and eat right, all the tricks up our sleeves. My frustration is that I'm not feeling them anymore, or at least I wasn't when I started this thread. It's funny you mention milk so much, I recently discovered that if I make my protein shakes with almond milk, really well blended and ice cold, and if I drink them swiftly and steadily, that I feel super stuffed and for a long time. Something about milk I guess? Interesting. =)

Vanity, Mental, Health -- Percentages Of Each Regarding My Decision
When I was sleeved I would probably have said that it was 100% vanity, I wanted to be "normal", "fit in" be "attractive", etc. etc. I think I was in complete denial of my health, I had spent so many years defending my fatness, claiming that it had zero effect on my health but now, 125 lbs later and a regular gym goer, I can see the untruth of it. My blood pressure was high, although I wasn't on meds. I was never comfortable, ever, not even reclining in bed, and everything was difficult. Just attempting to tie my shoes or wash my hair would depress and exhaust me. So, in hindsight, it should have been at least 50-50%. I still have 40 lbs to goal though and although I really do want to get strong, these last 40 -plus eventual plastics- are all about vanity so, give it 80-20% currently.

Oprah Kriste Ally
That's true. Did she have VSG? I wonder if she had instead made herself an advocate if VSG would have gained greater vis. sooner ... I would've had it years ago.

Sadly enough when famous people do get WLS, and are successful with it, they get torn to shreds. Look at Star Jones.

When Did It Hit You?
I am 21 months out, 125 pounds down, 40 to go. It still hasn't hit me, I still don't *know* that I'll be/that I am successful.

Gonna Get To Goal. Wanna Join Me?
@ Coops - yaaay! It is such an incredible feeling isn't it! Such ... freedom, physically, emotionally, dare I say spiritually even! Knowing that I can move so swiftly and that there is no reason not to, nobody is going to tell me no I can't, and I physically CAN. It's awesome. Hey has anybody here tried eating Vietnamese/Thai style spring rolls? They are incredible, fresh crunchy greens, a variety of sauces, and a pleasantly springy wrapper with a great chew. Yum! You usually get two for an appetizer which is a perfect size sleever's meal. =)

What Types Of Clothes Got You Through The Rapid Weight Loss?
Well, because of how much you can weigh with each size in plus sizes, you will probably be in your pre-op clothes for the first 50 lbs post-op, at least. After that you really won't go down in sizes rapidly even as you lose crazy weight, again because of how much each pluz size lets you weigh. However, every body is different and the best way to deal with this and not spend a fortune is thrift stores. It has become a fun pasttime for me to hit Goodwill and others and hunt for clothes, now that I am in a 12, the most common size in the US, there is SO much to choose from and once you have bought a luxury clothing item that costs $100 new for only $5, you will be hooked! =P
