  1. I'm down 11.5 lbs, and am getting sleeved 7/14/10. I can't wait to be post op!
  2. Dr. Helbling at St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck, ND.
  3. After making a few attitude and effort adjustments, I've made peace with the pre-op diet. One more week and I'm on the table! I'm not nervous or anything--is that normal? I just feel kind of matter-of-fact about it. Gonna get sleeved. Yup.

Congrats! You could try mixing some isopure zero carb powder in with your water--it mixes really well and could help you get your protein in. The flavors I have are vanilla and banana creme and they taste fine to me.

Congrats! I hope you have a great recovery!

Hang in there. It gets easier--I'm on day 6 of mine and I've totally made peace with it.
  7. I have the problem of getting angry for not being able to eat what I want. It's weird. I hope it goes away after the surgery--it just showed up during the pre-op diet.
  8. I found TSA friendly 3.4 oz vials of flavored liquid protein. 40 grams of protein in one of them. I got them at the Supplement Warehouse website--just search on liquid protein 3 oz.
  9. Wow--good luck tomorrow. I'm up 7/14--about a week from now. I've made peace with the pre-op diet, and can't believe that this is actually going to happen. I've been trying to do this since 2002!
  10. Actually you could contact my bariatric clinic and see if they have a list of other clinics in the pilot program. I'm pretty sure she said it was a national project. The nurse's name is Jean, and the number is 701-530-6330.
  11. No, they didn't deny me. They approved within 3 days. The bariatric center I went to was in some sort of pilot research program with BCBS--I think that's why there wasn't a problem. You could try to find a program that is also in the BCBS pilot program for the vertical sleeve gastrectomy.

We have the same pre-op diet, except that I can eat any lean meat and have a salad but no fruit. Today was so much easier than the first 4 days!
  13. Chica-how much protein are we supposed to have? My doc says 40 grams in shakes and the rest in a 4-6 oz portion of lean meat.

I'm on day 5 of my pre-op diet and have finally figured out how to do it without being hungry. I was whining all over the place until about 10am today. What exactly does your diet consist of? I hope you are having an easier first few days than I did.
  15. You are having surgery on my birthday! My surgery is 7/14/10. Stock up on protein powder, cream soups, flavored sugar free syrups (for less boring shakes), sugar free pudding, and buy some 4 oz ramekins or bowls to get you used to the new portion sizes. Good luck! Check my blog if you want the blow-by-blow account of my experience, since I'll be a week ahead of you.

I don't even own a scale. I just eat like I'm supposed to and get weighed at the doctor's office. It's the only way I can keep my sanity. Hang in there!
  17. RE: Pre-op diet (shakes + Atkins dinner) OK, now that I've whined and moaned, I pulled out the info from the bariatric program and found the following: I can have a 1 cup salad in addition, and I can make my own dressing for it--woo! So I got up and went to the store, and got a brainstorm while I was there--I can season my meat any way I want--so why not with pico de gallo (chopped raw garlic, onion, tomato, cilantro)? I'm getting excited about dinner. I picked up some asparagus that I'm going to dress with a ginger vinagrette. I just need to get over myself lol, and get creative with it!

  20. 5 days in 9 to go--and I'm hungry and can't stop thinking about food. Arrggh. My doctor's diet: Breakfast: Atkins Advantage low carb Protein shake or Isopure Snack: 1 oz string cheese Lunch: Atkins Advantage low carb Protein Shake or Isopure Snack: 1 oz string cheese Dinner: 4-6 oz lean meat and 1/2 cup non-carby vegetable. 64 oz water/day I'm doing exactly what's written and I feel like Shoot Me Now how am I going to do this for 9 more days!
  21. The pre-op diet (Day 5) is driving me insane, but I am doing it.
  22. My pre-op diet is driving me insane! I'm HUNGRY and I've got 9 days to go before my 7/14/10 surgery. Arrgghh! Is anyone else having this issue?

I see people post all the time about the first month, and a pound a day is NOT something to be depressed about? When was the last time you lost 15 lbs so fast? Put the scale away for a while and eat exactly as your doctor directs, and get your fluids in. It will get better.
  24. I am in hell. 9 more days until surgery and the pre-op diet is making me insane. I'm always hungry, especially between dinner and bed. I hate being hungry! I am doing it exactly the way my dr. said, drinking 64 oz water/day, no carbs etc. I want to eat the world!:scared0:
  25. Yes. BCBS North Dakota. State Employees PERS policy.
