Anybody in the San Antonio area? I am hoping to be sleeved June 8th or 9th.

    Beans anyone?

Great! I am a bean lover. I didn't even think of lentils.

    Errrrrr

They don't like that you changed the status quo. I am sure I will run into that with my family. They are supportive now, but when it impacts "mama's good cookin", I think their song will change. Hang in there. Remind them of all of the positives - what you can do now that you couldn't before, how much healthier you are...etc...

    Tried something new

This morning I am trying a Cytomax protein water. 20oz, 40g protein 160 cal. even has 25% of your calcium. Not too bad, but super sweet. I am cutting it with water. My nut said it can count as my water after surgery. I tried the Tropical flavor. Kind of pina-colda tasting. I might try freezing some into icecubes and then running through a slushy machine. Would be kind of like having an icey. Mother's day was kind of a bummer. Had to get up and make breakfast because my daughter had a friend sleepover and she had to leave early for church. I say "had to", I didn't "have to", but I always feel like Ineed to take care of guests. Kids gave me cards, then I think hubby was feeling bad, so he was trying to whisper to my son to go up to the store and buy me some flowers. Don't bother. After the fact don't count with me. A little thought before hand would have meant more. Oh well, no time for a pity-party now. I am taking back my life, and the rest of them be damned :cursing:

    Tried something new

teehee. It felt good to vent and not feel like a b#%ch. I looked at the protein water and I cannot find what they are using for calcium in it. That's odd. I will have to google it and see if I can find anything. The calcium was just an added benefit. It is whey protein isolate, so that's a good thing! It is super sweet, so I had to cut it with water. I read somewhere else (either here or OH) that someone didn't like the tropical flavor, but liked the others. I am going to get them and give them a taste. I still think I will freeze some and then run it through my daughter's slushy machine to make ice I can eat. Do you know if the protein is compromised if it is frozen? OH, BTW before I forget..... I have to say you are an amazing inspiration and an absolute fountain of knowledge. You are so right-on with a lot of your comments to posts - the part about doctor choices, the stomach stretching etc.....Thanks for all you do!!!

    5% of 1%?

So nice to find like-minded people. I too live in an ultra-conservative, uber-religious area. I feel like such an outcast sometimes, and kind of feel bad for my children because all of their friends belong to mega churchs. (But not bad enough to fake it). I keep my non-beliefs to myself and nod politely when the other children's parents start preachin' and prayin'.

    Jay Robb Whey Protein?

I too am trying the proteins out. I bought the Jay Robb sample packs yesterday at my grocery store and really like the chocolate egg white protein. I am going to try another one today. I don't want to do too many so that I am burned out on protein drinks before my 2 week pre-op diet (so not looking forward to that).

    Mother's Day

Well here it is Mother's Day and I am the only one up so far (almost 9:00 in the morning). I have already walked the dogs, fed them, cooked up some bacon and prepped the rest of the ingredients to make breakfast tacos for the family (when they decide to get up  The third load of laundry is getting ready to go in the dryer. Am I a martyr? Naaawwww! I think the hardest part of my surgery is going to be taking care of my family, or thinking that I need to. My husband seems supportive, but I don't think he understands what the impact is going to be. My children (two teenagers) don't really say anthing. I think my daughter is secretly mad. I was planning on taking her and a friend to either Florida or the Bahamas, but it is conflicting with my surgery date. I was doing the whole vacation for them. I don't want to walk around in the heat in Florida or, egads!!!, put on a bathing suit at the beach. I finally told her that this was my time and we could take a trip another time. I have been traveling mon-thurs for two-three weeks a month for the past two years. During that time I would come home late Thursday night, work from home on Friday, do 12 loads of laundry, grocery shop, run errands, take the kids wherever they wanted to go and cook several meals for the next week. I found that I was resenting my time at home. So I have stopped cooking the extra meals. It is time for them to learn to fend for themselves. So far no one has died This is the first step in a journey for me to reclaim my life. I am going to do things for ME!!:cursing:

    Time to start planning....

Being the uber type-A person that I am.....I have of course made all kinds of lists and lists of my lists to get ready for surgery. I thought I would use this blog entry to keep track of things as I go. To buy: loose jammies gasx chewable viatmins shakes RTD protein powders SF jello SF popcicles broth magic bullet stuff to make shakes on the road dcaf b12 protein waters-cytomax breath strips benefiber Today I tried the Jay Robb egg white protein mix. 24g protein 110 cal. I mixed it with mootopia milk 6oz 65cal 9g protein It wasn't too bad!! Not overly sweet. I added a few icecubes in the blender with it.

    Time to start planning....

Thanks for the blender info, I am headed to Target today (of course I go to Target almost every day)
  11. I have been lurking here for a little while and over at the OH sleeve forum for almost a year. I wanted to have the surgery last fall, but my DH was dead set against me going to Mexico, and I did not like any of the surgeons (or their offices) where I had been to seminars. Well I finally found a doc and office that I like and I am shooting for early-mid June! This doc was very supportive of my choice (in fact, he was thrilled), unlike one of the other doc's office that kept pushing the lap band because my insurance will cover it. It ain't cheap, but not as bad as I thought (14.5K). I am soon to be 50 :scared0:, I have been transplanted to San Antonio Texas, I have two teenagers (17 & 14) and I went back to work full time a couple of years ago. I travel for work Mon-Thurs two - three weeks a month, so some of this is going to be challenging. I put on most of my weight after the birth of my second child (coincidently that is when I started working from home). My family is all obese, so more so than others. I have to say a very big THANK YOU!!!! to all of you long-term sleevers that still post. You are an inspiration to me! Also, thank you to all that post their likes, dislikes etc. It is helping me compile a list of things to have on hand for after surgery and things to try now. Here is what my doc says: 2 week pre-op diet: 2 -3 shakes a day and one small Protein and veggie meal (about the size of your hand) 2 nights in the hospital liquids for 7-10 days after (he says the nut. will tell me clear, but he is OK with shakes after) Mushies after that I am not so crazy about the nut. She is pushing 70 and I had to call her on a couple of things. From all that I have read here whey isolate is the way to go, and she was pushing powders that were whey concentrate. When I asked about it, she said isolate is good, but concentrate is good too. Her "after" diet is 60g protein a day 100g carbs and 20g fat. Not sure this is where I want to be in the losing phase, but I will play with it. So here are some of the things I have already purchased (trying not to stockpile :001_smile:): Individual packs of the the Jay Robb protein mixes. I even found an egg white one. Anyone tried it? GasX strips chewable Vitamins trying to find chewable Calcium (citrate), but havent had any luck Cytomax Protein Drink (anyone try? SF Jello SF popcicles SF rice pudding (my new love) I am starting to get a little scared now. I am a big baby when it comes to pain. What if I don't lose as much as I want? What if the "head hunger" is too overwhelming? What if there are complications? But really, my quality of life is going down hill fast anyway. Bad arthritis in my knee, feet hurt, I am sure diabetes is just around the corner. So, I will keep lurking here, and build my courage through all of you.

    June Surgery anyone?

I am shooting for June 8th or June 9th. I have already had the consult, they just have to do the paperwork. I have a few work engangements that I can't get out of the rest of May, and my 14 year old is have her "8th grade graduation" the first week of June. I should be coming home in time to celebrate my 50th birthday on June 11th. I guess no cake for me!! I see alot of Texas folks on here. We need to have a sleeve get together!
  13. Wow, you are such an inspiration! I have been lurking around for a while, and I see your posts alot. They keep me motivated to see this thing through!
  14. I travel two to three weeks a month and have often wanted to asked for one, but I was too embarassed. I have literally "sucked it up" and buckled "low and tight across my hips". How was your first trip out. I am nervous that I will be too tired to work, not able to find discreetly drink my Protein etc. I have my consult scheduled for May 7th, and hopefully surgery within a month since I am doing this self-pay. Any pearls of wisdom you can impart would be greatly appreciated!
  15. Hi! I am from San Antonio and I am looking for a recommendation for a sleeve doctor here? How was your experience? Are you willing to share your doctor's name? Thanks for any info you can provide.
