  1. It is time we sleevers came out of the closet. A lot of people think this is the "easy" way out; let them think that. This is merely a tool, as are exercise equipment, Weight Watchers, etc. We have to make a concious decision every day to "use" our tool to the fullest. Those that know you will know if your weight has been a struggle for you, and don't worry about the rest of them. I am very up front about it with people. I tell them what I am doing and why (family history of obesity, heart disease, joint issues.....) and that I am trying to use everything in my power to overcome this.

I finally get it! I've been starving to death...

Don't know if you have HEB there in McKinney, but it you do, try the Mootopia milk. 12g of protein per cup and fewer carbs! I also have been drinking th Myoplex carb control (the one that has 24g protein per drink (11oz) and then adding in 1/2 scoop of Jay Robb Egg White Protein to boost it up to 36g of protein. Also, I have like the Jay Robb Chocolate Egg White protein (1 1/2 scoops) with 8oz of the Mootopia which has 42g Protein and you only have to drink 8oz (its seems like more once you add the protein to the milk) I am trying to get down two of these a day. It takes me about an hour to nurse one drink. I also added 1Tblsp of the SF vanilla (or carmel) coffee syrup to the vanilla and or a good squirt of the Hershey's SF choc. syrup. Actually not too bad......(I had surgery 6/8)
  3. Congrats, and welcome to the bench. I agree with Jerry, the first few days for me have been up and down about "what have I done?!?!?". Today is day 6 and I think I may have turned the corner on that. Keep reminding her that every day is a little better.

I am a compulsive tester and finger licker! This has got to stop! Luckily I caught it all "before it went down", but I am worried something might sneak by.

    My First 5K!!!

Awesome! I can't wait to get back into exercising. I am hoping that as soon as I lose some lbs my knees won't hurt as bad and I can get on out there. Lately I have been dying to run! I don't know where this has come from, but I may give it a try!
  11. I am sure that is it. I napped alot my first full day at home and have taken a least a "cat-nap" every day since. Some people respond more adversly than others to the anesthesia. I didn't use my pain pump at all while in the hospital and they sent me home with a "gallon" of loratab that I haven't cracked the seal on. I don't like the way pain meds make me feel. Stay hydrated, and rest. You deserve it!

    Confessions of a lick-a-holic

Whoa, a cheese stick?! None of my "licks" were intentional....just habit. I always taste what I am cooking so I can adjust the seasoning etc. I told my kids to keep an eye on my fingers!
  13. Hang in there girl! I am day 5 and felt really tired and weak until yesterday. I had to take a nap after going to the grocery store! You are probably still processing the anesthesia out of your system. If you aren't in too much pain, stop the pain meds, they can make you feel like cr@p. I couldn't get any protein in either so I called my doc and they said I could start protein shakes made with water. That has made a world of difference. Hang in there, get in your water, and walk whenever you can.
  14. My tiny tummy has been very vocal! I had surgery on 6/8 and it started rumbling the next day. I tried protein shakes today for the first time and they went right through me (TMI). I am sorta hungry, but not overwhelmingly so.
  15. I am two days out from surgery and I tried to drink Isopure, and Cytomax but I can't get past the smell of Isopure and Cytomax is too sweet, even cut with Water. Any other Protein thoughts? My nut says clears until next Thurs, but my doc said shakes were Ok, not sure what the story is??

    Colds vs hot

I was sleeved on Tuesday the 8th, and I don't have a whole lot of energy yet. I came home Wednesday evening, and Thursday I needed a couple of naps to make it through the day. Yesterday was better, I walked the dogs, did laundry, cooked a few meals, etc, but I was very drained. I finally called my doc's office yesterday afternoon because my post-op diet is clears only. He had mentioned to me that I could have Protein shakes, but my discharge instructions and the nurse at his office said "Clears only". I had them verify with the doc and he said shakes were OK! Yippeee!!!! I had one this morning, and what a difference it made in my energy level today. I used the Jay Robb and mixed it with 3oz of Mootopia milk (lactose free and 12g protein a cup), 3oz of Water, and 1Tblsp on SF caramel syrup. It was quite good! It took me an hour to drink it, but this way it was only 6-8 oz (when you add the powder) and it had aprox 28-29g protein. I have that SF french vanilla coffee (and the mocha), and I have been dying to try it, but wasn't sure if it would be OK at this stage. Kinber, how did it sit with you? Sparkle, I had a honey vanilla (no cal) chamomile tea and it was devine. I too like warm better than cold. Keep up the good work ladies and sip sip sip, walk walk walk!

    Off to see the wizard.....

Another day closer to feeling normal. I think the adrenaline rush died yesterday and I napped alot. Of course, being the martyr that I am, first day home from the hospital yesterday I got up at 6:30, walked and fed the dogs, made Breakfast for everyone, did two loads of laundry and then took a shower and nap! Today I am feeling pretty weak, I am going to call my doc this morning and ask if i can have a Protein shake. I got conflicting information - the doc said sure when I asked him in the hospital, but the nut said absolutely not. I think a little protein would go a long way to making me perk up! Took my first prilosec this morning, I was a little nervous about it going down, but no issues so far. sipping my chamomile tea and then I will move on to broth. I just can't stand the Isopure or Cytomax protein drinks! Thanks everyone for your support and information, it has been invaluable on this journey.

    I'm sleeved

Welcome to the loser's bench sparkle! You are going to do fabulous!
  21. Wow sounds like y'all had a great place to go to. I was sleeved on Tuesday, and while I did very well, I wasn't crazy about my surgeon or facility. I didn't have a drain, which was nice, and they kept IV pain meds in me for about 12 hours after surgery. My doc was just one of those who "flies by", and doesnt really talk to you, rather at you. The facility was very nice - big rooms etc, but I had my issues with the staff. I guess I am just too demanding.....I called the nurse at 2:00 AM because my arm where the IV was was burning and it hurt worse than anything else. They told me they would have the doc look at it, they never came in and checked. Turns out my arm was filling with the IV fluid. So next morning I asked the new shift if this was normal and she said NO, my vein had collapsed, then she couldn't start an IV in my other arm, took several nurses until one could do it. Asked to go to the potty a couple of times and it took 1/2 or so before anyone would come. I had my surgery on Tuesday at noonish, and didn't see the doc again until 6:00 Wednesday when he said I was doing so well I could go home. I had to ask him "what about the leak test". If I hadnt said anything, it wouldn't have been done. Oh well, sorry to hijack, but I had to get my whining out!
  22. One day down. I ate my first popcicle for Breakfast, so far so good. Most of the shoulder pain is gone, just a little sore. Just did three laps in the hall. Now I can't decide whether to stay another day or go home . I havetwo teenagers ,two dogs, and a hubby at home, but I like the quiet here at the hospital Knock on wood, it has been great so far. I am a BIG BABY when it comes to pain, but this has not been bad. Achy, but no bad pain. The worst pain had was from my IV. For all of you waiting in the wings, I hope you have it as easy as I did.
  23. Well, I decided to go home. Last night was a little rough in my bed - it is high off the ground and I am side sleeper, so I kept trying to roll over on my side. Already up and sip, sip, sipping. Took my dogs (little guys) for a very short walk (about down 3 houses and back). Other than the shoulder pain, and the abdominal discomfort, doing well.
