  1. I think the jury is still out on NSAIDs and the VSG. One school of thought is that the potential for ulceration is there, and because we have teeny tiny tummies we can't afford to lose any of it. One surgeon mentioned to me (I have bad OA of the knee) that if I had to take a NSAID, take the liquid form and then drink afterwards to wash it out of the tummy.
  2. Try Frigo Lite string cheese - 8g Protein and only 60 calories per stick. I nibble these for a snack. Have you tried the Ricotta bake from the recipe section - Ricotta has a lot of protein Egg salad is another option. Scramble an egg and shred a babybel cheese in it. I have found that if I don't do shakes I can't get my protein easy without eating all day. My routine is 2 shakes 2 meals and maybe a cheese stick for a snack. I use the Jay robb egg white protein. With the chocolate I put it in 6-8 oz of Water, a squirt of hershey SF syrup, a bunch of ice and blend it all up. It's not bad. My grocery store has small packs of the protein so that is what I bought to try it.

  6. Those are all normal emotions. Right up until the day before I was ready to cancel. I finally realized I had gained and lost the weight so many times and that I was at the point in my life that losing wasn't going to get any easier (I am 50 and menopausal). I have bad arthritis in my knees and walking was becoming difficult. If I wanted a chance to enjoy my life, this was it! I am now 13 days out AND I FEEL GREAT! I was pretty hungry during the "clears" phase, but got over that quickly once I could eat some soups etc. I already have more energy. My husband is starting to worry about me aquiring a transfer addiction - shopping! Keep your spirit up ladies, you will get through this and on to a better, fitter, healthier life.
  7. I must be doing exceptionally well, or something is wrong! I am not quite two weeks and I have no problem with a 4oz greek yogurt. For that matter I have no problem with 4oz of anything! That is probably my limit though. I have made some pureed bean soups (yummy) and put those in 1/2 cup servings and I can get one of those down too (they are very liquid). I have never had a problem with shakes either. I could do one of those in 15 minutes, easy. I am beginning to wonder if I got the 32f boughie he said I did! So, it all depends on how well you are healing and what your capacity is.
  8. I went for my post op at about 9 days, although the handout they gave said week two: yogurt, shakes, string cheese, cottage cheese, refried Beans, eggs. Week three: ground meats, tuna, moist fish, broiled or baked fish or chicken, lunch meat. Week four: soft cooked veggies, cheese, fruits. I don't feel issues when I eat, I just have been stopping at about a quarter a cup or when I feel (full). I also have read other people mention that when they burp they stop, and I have been following that. I honestly feel I could eat anything right now, but I am keeping everything very soft and moist and plan on continuing that for a couple more weeks to make sure everything is healed.
  9. I am almost two weeks out and was cleared this week for softs: cottage cheese, string cheese, eggs, etc. I am trying to get all my Protein from food and not shakes. Today I consumed about 435 calories, but this is what I ate: Breakfast: lite string cheese, 1/2 sm cup of applesauce (had trouble finishing the cheese) Lunch: 1/2 C pureed lentil Soup with 1 tblsp greek yogurt; a hour or so later I had 1/4 C egg salad Snacks: String cheese, 4oz greek yogurt Dinner: 1/4 tuna salad I didn't quite meet my protein goal, but close. Also because I had the two Snacks in there I had a harder time with Water. I read about all these people that can only eat a tablespoon of food a three weeks, I don't have any problem. 1/4 cup is about my max, but it goes down fine. Same with liquids. Mind you, I am not complaining, but I want to make sure I am not "messing" something up.

    Needing Advice/Help!

How much longer are you on liquids? I am not even two weeks yet and I can have pudding, eggs, cottage cheese, etc. I did like (maybe that is too strong a word) the Jay Robb egg white protein, and the Myoplex carb control RTD

    Day 4 post op.

I am day 12 and doing great. Still a little tugging on the incisions, but other than that, feeling fab. I am a little concerned that I really don't feel much different. I am not hungry anymore since I moved on to the next phase of food after my one week doc appt. I am loving egg salad, tuna salad, Frigo string cheese, etc. Today I made a yummy lentil soup, pureed it and then mixed in a little plain greek yogurt. Every once in a while I get a little tired, but I think that is because I am only sleeping 5-6 hours a night (so much energy). keep up the good work all!
  12. I am 8 days post op and I am feeling blue. I think I tried to be too "normal" after surgery. Everything is about food. I go to the grocery store and salivate the whole time;:drool5: dreaming of all the things I can make when I get to mushies and softs; planning meals. Then I come home, lug it all up the stairs, put it all away, and make my family 2-3 squares a day. I about came across the table at my son yesterday when, after I had prepared him a meal, he got up to do something, came back and his food was cold, and then scraped it in the trash. Didn't he know how much I wanted those scrambled eggs and bacon? OK, I am done feeling sorry for myself, but I swear if I don't get something to eat soon it's gonna be ugly around here:scared0: I.M.HUNGRY!!!! I am only having 2-3 Myoplex Carb Control shakes (150 cal; 25g protein) per day and maybe a SF popcicle. I don't want any more shakes. I want something savory. Sweets are yucky.
  13. Well, got cleared for mushies yesterday! Woo Hoo! When I came home I couldn't decide what I wanted first. I ended up blending 1/4 cup of navy bean soup that I had made for the family with a few splashes of broth. I strained it to get out the chunks of ham. It was yummy. A little later I also tried a tablespoon of cottage cheese. Everything seemed to sit fine. This morning I scrambled 2 egg whites and served it with 1/4 cup of refried black beans all topped with 1 babybel lite cheese grated and melted. This time I can actually say "my eyes were bigger than my stomach". I could only get down about 1/3 of it. For lunch today I ate a Frigo lite cheese stick and it kept me full all after noon. I just had "dinner" which was 1/4 C of egg salad (I will be eating this for a while; 4 egg whites 2 whole eggs it was about 4 servings). So far so good! I can tell I am going to need to supplement with protein shakes for a while until I get on solids. I can't get in 60g without 'em!
  14. When I looked at the chicken broth I had it home, it either had 0 or 1 gram of protein, but when I looked at the chicken stock, it had 5g of protein (per cup). I will be using this from now on. And, when I get to mushies I will use it to thin down my soups etc with. Just thought I would pass it on for all of the newbies
  15. Lori, right now I would kill for tomato soup! I go for my post op visit today, so maybe they will clear me for that.

back home! my sleeve story so far :)

So glad to hear you are safe and well. You have been in the back of mind since this weekend. The "mommy" in me was worried about you making that drive.
  17. zephra, I hope you are feeling a little perkier now. This Texas heat doesn't help much! I go out and do a few errands and I am whipped! In fact, I think it is nap time now.

    Diarrhea after vsg???

Oh yeah, the first two days I was home were, well, explosive.

Will I ever eat a reular meal again?

Wow Christie! You can eat all of those different things at 3 weeks out? I was figuring I would still be eating cream soups then. There is hope....

    Post-Anesthesia

No problems with the anesthesia at all, a little groggy, but that's it. I didn't have a catheter or a drain.
  21. best of luck to you, and if you need any support while in San Antonio, give me a shout out and I will give you my number.

  22. Amen to that! I got home from the hospital late Wednesday evening and got up Thursday to a pile of laundry in the laundry room that my daughter was "doing". Then my 17 year old says "So, what are y'all thinking about for lunch", which loosely translated means "Mom what are you cooking me". ReallY? Really? I CAN'T EAT ANYTHING!!! But in reality, it is my issue. I either need to stop catering to their every whim, or suck it up and deal with the repercusions. Hang is there girl! It keeps getting better every day.
  23. Zephra, just checking in.....How ya doing today?

    Ummm......

Some people just aren't good "hospital" people. I know my husband isn't. He couldn't wait to get out of there! I told him I would call him when I was discharged and he could come get me. I enjoy my solitude. But he has been right there since I have been home. Asking me if I want a back rub, getting me pillows up prop up with....etc.
